I got scammed

This is not caused by the person not having enough money to buy it. When you set up a shop, it totals everything you're tryingto buy at the bottom, (quantity * price) added together for every slot. This number can not exceed to total amount of coin you have when you set [Done] on your shop to turn it into a catshop. Once you are in catshop, you can not get rid of money, make trades, or do anything to shuffle your money away.

b:surrender Sorry spoons.
I explained it before thinking more along the lines of if everyone knows how the scam can be done, you cant scam others. Sort of if everyone knows how the scam 3-card-monte (sp?) works, it cant fool anyone.
Anyhow, there's an exploit that shall not be repeated, but suffice it to say, it has nothing to do with the buyer being out of money. The Scammer has to take sufficient forethought and effort to set it up, this can not be done accidentally.0 -
Sirrobert - Dreamweaver wrote: »Yea, I saw this once with someone using mantou (the cheap one you can buy for 100coins)
He was selling them for 100k, and buying 1 for 1,5 mil. In a shop next to it, there were mantou's for 50k.
So, having some mantou's lying around, I try to sell mine. Unavailable. It means the player doesn't have enough coins to buy your product.
Just go by the old rule, "If it looks too good to be true, it probably is."0 -

Think about it: Why would I intentionally set up a shop that hemorrhaged my own money?
you said the action was only questionable hereDarksylph - Heavens Tear wrote: »This is not caused by the person not having enough money to buy it. Scam- a confidence game or other fraudulent scheme, esp. for making a quick profit; swindle.
YES THIS IS A SCAM. Scams are anything that decieve another person for your benifet. This is ALSO taking advantage of the game.
I've sent a ticket asking them to fix this glitch. They emailed me back saying if I want to report someone, to send a screenshot. Apparently they think that I got scammed (I didn't, but I've seen it done.)0 -

1: No evidence or explanation had been provided to show that this was an exploit
2: Explanation of an exploit somewhat related to this issue is posted.
3: Since I now had an explanation of what could be considered an exploit, I made that reply. This does not change the point of the thread, as nobody can give me a 100% confirmation that the only way to set up a shop this way is by exploiting.
The user is pretty much responsible for their own purchases. I would hope that false blame would not be placed where it was not needed, but it would be naive to think that. Assuming that no exploit is used, you shouldn't blame someone for your hastily made purchases.
Caveat emptor! If you use caution when making purchases then you could never be "scammed", this would be the ideal solution to the whole issue.
If an exploit is used and you have evidence to confirm this without a doubt, send a ticket. Caution should be put to use in order to remove the need to send a ticket.

b:pleased counter scam them that's what I say
I saw a shop at west arch trying to do that but clearly a amture it was some sort of dq set 100k tobuy 50k to sell
but I worked out if I buy all the dq and resell back to him I will make 50k profit so I brought all his dq so now he got a vacent spot and resell back to him Go me!!!0 -
I myself saw several or even more shops with strange prices and things like that.Always asked myself "Do they think anyone would fall for such stupid tricks?" Don't worry you're not the first to post about similar " scams" but coming back and reading posts like this I have to say I was wrong, people fall for it when "aparently" easy coin is involved.0

Morrzan, this explanation is what EatWithSpoons editted out of my prior post. You should probably edit it out of your post for breaking a similar rule as what he quoted i did. Long story short, dont teach people how to scam. Also anyone who quoted should please edit out the quoting.
Edit: actually not precisely. Your explanation, if for example, they had a stack of 100 & that was maximum capacity of the stack, when the person bought the item, the shops stack would go down to 99, then they could sell it back to bring them back to 100. I've bought things on my kitty shop & they go right to the stack if its incomplete.0 -
I'm not sure how much more clear I can be about this. Do not post explanations of alleged exploits on the forum. Period.
If you are unsure of something you want to post, and you want me to look it over to make sure it is okay, don't hesitate to PM me, but the admins do not like to read posts explaining how to do things when they have already been removed once.
b:thanks I appreciate your understanding of this matter.

There was no explanation, the only thing i did was explain how someone elses version fails. I even said (in what you removed) i wont post what to do. And i was advising the person above to remove his statements. If you maybe skimmed what i said or something but you can re-read it in your records i by no means had any techniques to scam in that one. I apologize if you thought i was, but nothing i posted had any scam methods in it (that 2nd time).
Edit: *sigh* ok everyone you're way off, stop posting, if you're actually onto it you'll be editted. No reason to continue this topic.0 -

There are two sides to this.
Those who say that someone should be alert enough about what they are doing and value what they have enough to double check what it is that they are buying. That if you buy something that is priced wrong it is your own fault.
Example: People selling common shards for 14,650k with 1 stone being 688k. Clearly they mispriced one stone in hopes you wouldn't check them all and hoping you have enough coins to buy and boom, they made a whole lotta money off of you.
*one time I purchased one of these stones, it was the last time. I ALWAYS check all of them now*
Then there are those who say you know what, people should have enough honesty, class, integrity and dignity not to do such things.
The reality is, that the first type of person is more what we see. Sadly. Those who hope that you are too trusting and they can easily snatch money by deception and your lack of observation.
The second type of person is more rare than the first, this is also sad.
That said, clearly you either need to be more observant or you should put all but what stones normally cost in the bank to ensure if you aren't observant you can't buy.0 -

This isnt the type of scam being discussed here. While a catshop is involved, its not the over priced & hope you dont notice scam. The scam the OP is talking about is one that clearly uses an exploit to accomplish. While the deal was "too good to be true... therefore ussually is", the scammer is clearly & definatively going against the ToS for exploiting.0 -
In my best Nelson voice...
HA! HA!
~Saitada0 -
Not scamming? I don't see the logic there. What do you consider scamming? Offering something then giving something different? That's what's being done here. The *scammers* are offering a great deal with an initial investment then... nothing. Buyer agreed to buying the item, true, but the catshop also agreed to buying the item at a set price. If catshop buying is glitched somehow, then the kitty is lying for profit.
I do believe people should check out these things because it seems to good to be true, etc etc but there is fault on both sides here. I personally can't blame anyone for trying to make a bit of money quickly though not by exploiting game mechanics.0 -
OK neverming the exploit and all,but talking about this specific case why would someone sell a lime stone or even more why would someone buy it.Is there any difference if instead of 100k/200k he does it with 1k/2k?I'm trying to understand why(and even more how)would someone fall for it.I mean I would go hit some mobs in starting area and try to sell them to the dude in hopes he maybe screwed himself trying this,BUT in no circumstance I would buy and resell the same thing to the same catshop.I didn't knew about this thing but I would have smelt something was wrong.
As for the types of world/people was made above I would separate them in realists and gullible instead of that sci-fi "categories" OnehotShot used.Don't get me wrong but those people don't exist and using a bit of logic and realism doesn't mean beeing misstrustfull.0 -
i looked into this, thought it was a scam but found a shop selling limestone for 1k and tried to sell it for the 300k, didnt work, boo hoo i lost 1k b:chuckle
*hint* your not being scammed if you dont buy from the shop thats selling limestone for 150k xD
plus the shops name was "free-money"....[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
