Jumping is faster then running :D

I jump run to all my destinations...Mostly so I can spin my camera around and spot herbies and other mats and it seems like some terrain slows you down quite a bit...So I had a veno running the same path as my assassin earlier and checked to see if we moved the same on the ground (Both 5.2 run speed to my knowledge) and we did...So I started jumping and I slowly gained distance on her and on odd terrain I gained a huge gap on her.
So be spazzy...jump everywhere you go and you'll get there faster XD Other people test this too?

A veno runs at 5.1 IIRC... wait. Sins run at 5.2? QQ b:cry
But yeah, a veno runs at 5.1, I think. You would have beat her either way. Jumping /does/ seem faster, though. The only issue with Jumping is that it'll rubberband you back to where you were if you jump around some place too steep.0 -
I have found jumping can increase travel speed while travelling hills. That said, when you hit 30, you get wings you can use, and then it's faster 24/7 because you can fly at a faster speed and not worry about hills.
So how about... run everywhere and jump up hills until 30, and then fly?
Better yet, go by yourself level 10 wings from the CS or a level 10 mount! It's what PWE really wants you to do. >>[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -
This is the reason why jumping is faster (over non flat terrain):
The game has what we shall call 3 directions. X, Y and Z.
When the game gives coordinates, it gives X and Y. So for example, lets say 582 384. That is X and Y. The altitude gives the location in the Z axis.
When you are in the air after jumping, your speed in the X and Y (flat) planes will be your maximum running speed. However, if you are travelling across land, your speed on that plane will be your maximum running speed. This means that your speed in the X and Y planes will not be your maximum running speed (think of a right angle triangle then use pythagoras or trigonometry).
So to maximise your speed in the X and Y planes, you should jump.
Please ask me to clarify if that is not clear to you lol.0 -
It does seem like common sense but I see so many people walk up hills...>.> Guess it's true...Common sense isn't very common.0

People run up hills because they click ahead & go. while jumping might get you there a tad faster, its an effort/gain thing. One can click periodically running and be alot more passive and lazy then needing to click jump all the time.0 -
Not to mention, all this jumping annoys the heck out of everyone ...I'm not there to make you survive in PWI, that's your job

If you go up an incline X meters then drop straight to the the level you started from: you'll be less distance from the start point than you were on the incline.Be kind: Help the GMs to depopulate the servers.0 -

me occasionally walk since jumping up too steep a place ends up rubberbanding you.

Veno base is only 5.1. But yeah jumping can help on certain things like hills. I have a mount that goes 11m/s and my veno goes 10.4... I sent my extra mount to my Psychic cause it was so darn slow.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0

That's pretty much the conclusion I had reached too. Haven't tested it formally, but I always hold down the space bar when running uphill. Makes it go faster. Jumping while going downhill is a problem because of rubber-banding.0 -
I was typing a long text with physics but gave up, too hard to translate, anyway, it does not matter if you jump, you'll get there in the same time if you walk, if you got faster than someone it could be two things=> you have a faster ground speed or your connection with the server is faster than his and he got delayied.
For the movement explanation search for american football movement, or if anyone understand portuguese search for => Movimento Obl0 -

When you jump in real life, your movement can be resolved into vectors in the X Y and Z directions, and you also take into account air resistance. However, this is a game, where they have programmed it so that when you jump, ALL of your maximum movespeed is used in the X Y plane and they add some speed in the Z direction for the purposes of the jump.
So when you jump, your actual movespeed in the direction of your jump (not the X Y plane) is actually greater than your maximum movespeed.
In this way, you can actually travel faster than the maximum movespeed of 15 m/s if you jump while moving at that speed, however it won't make a difference to you because in the X Y plane you are still only moving at 15 m/s.0 -

It's easy, takes about 5 seconds, and proves that you do indeed move faster if you jump up/down hills.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

I don't really know about moving faster....if you jump around a lot, especially down slopes, you'll also rubber-band-glitch a lot too. The speed should remain constant whilst moving at all so when you jump and fall down, you'll be slightly further behind than if you kept to a straighter route. While the gravity does pull you down faster than you can normally run, it probably makes up for the lost velocity when jumping up, at most.
Jumping up hills works (unless it's really steep), but jumping down hills will send you back several times due to the rubber-band glitch.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -

However, where you claim that the speed should remain constant whilst moving at all, that is an incorrect statement. If you read my post on the first page about it, you will understand why that does not occur in this game, and why jumping actually makes you move faster in the XY plane.
Also, to add something to my previous post, I realised another way to 'exceed' the maximum movespeed of 15 m/s, something that almost all of you would do almost every day. Due to 'gravity', when you drop down to the ground from an altitude of 78, your 'speed' in the Z direction is much greater than 15 m/s just before you hit the ground.0 -

You guys are seriously overcomplicating this.
Hills and valleys slow you down. Jumping makes your character ignore them, thus constantly keeping up your speed.
There. That's it.
But yeah..I always loved MMOs that would let you jump. I'm a master at jumping in this game...The many, many shortcuts I've found (-tons- of them in the new tideborn areas) make getting around and completing quests outrageously fast. Couple that with the speed increase ability Assassins get...heh, I can get into and out of the main city there with ease, and I've never used the entrances of the city either.
Hm...might even make a youtube video showing a few good ones.0 -
simple physics guys. well, simple physics engine.0
