Dissecting Nefarious Part 1: Officers

So much has happened in this server since it's beginning. Legendary, I believe was the first faction created. Followed by Nefarious. Other guilds followed. Yet over time, many of the early guilds collapsed and disbanded. Some are now only shells of their former glory. Others remain strong but remain hidden and shy away from Territory Wars. Guilds like Shockwave and Outlaw collapsed but are rebuilding from almost the ground up. Legendary grew strong along with Nefarious but eventually they too began collapsed quite suddenly though they are quickly regaining some power. Yet among these guilds, Nefarious continues to stand strong, having been only on the brink of collapse several times in it's history and yet continued to stand strong.


Though I have never been in a TW faction, I have been in several PVE factions that collapsed, some even before they lasted a week,
I'm hoping this thread will be a useful analysis of factors that maintain a faction and maybe something we can learn from them to enable me and others to build strong, lasting factions PVP or PVE


Several elements are needed for a strong faction. Some of these are:
1. Leadership
2. Membership sense of belonging
3. Loyalty
4. Money and land


For this part I wish to examine the leadership of Nefarioius
To most of us not in TW guilds, the officers of Nefarious are like ghosts for the most part. Some names I am familiar with, but most I do not even recognize - including the leader and director before I started to seek out that information. Although now Nefarious is a rich guild raking in free coins from lands they have earned that play a large part in recruiting and maintaining members, I also believe officers of any faction have a large impact on the survivability of the guild.


Below is a list of officers and former officers I have managed to identify in my investigation from scouring their public forums and asking members. If I have missed any others or made a mistake, please let me know.

(very little info on known former officers. Maybe coz most of their officers are ghosts )

BigPunisher -ex Marshall (pk's, one of the top barbs, super geared)
AshWorth (pk's, one of the first)
sinangel (i heard he is arrogant and annoying)
Elend



What qualities do these officers possess that make them unique as officers and do they impact the sturdiness of the bastion of Nefarious? What do we know about them? How do they conduct themselves?

Most of those people you listed are respectable people for the most part, who stand to represent the mature and xtreme gamer side of Nefarious. Also, the geek factor is off the scale with those folks. There is a reason why that faction is called Nerdfarious, and those people are the prime examples No harm meant, its just an observation. These people really dont seem to have a life outside of PWI.

Good folks, most of them tho. I respect them because they tolerate the rest of the morons in the faction. The officers know how to play their classes well (most of them at least) and they know the game. Sad part is, I think Nef knows the game better than the Devs.

Curious tho, what classifies as 'the best'?

One major flaw I notice with Nef tho, is inconsistent Leadership. I cant count how many times leadership has been passed, its like nobody wants the job for too long.

A lot of factions don't have any initial momentum at all, rather other factions losing momentum while your own faction doesn't give up, remains constant and continuing to grow slowly. You'll catch up, and will make your faction stand out eventually.

Then after all your own hard work, people will recognize the effort the leadership/members put into it, and be proud of who they are, and join them. That's one possible way the momentum can kick in.

Nefarious Officers are not celebrities. I don't spend the hours I have publicizing my name and squad-whoring so people know I'm an officer.

But if you do see me on, I'm probably afking in Archo, interviewing prospective applicants and/or taking care of TW lists and other related tasks.

And if you feel like it, you can always chat me up about Nef or the weather or life or anything.




And btw, Harima, Morgul, Sinanju, and Falls are all ex-officers.

AshWorth - Sanctuary

Just something to ponder upon.. May not be necessary true but just my personal opinions

R&R - Important to prevent your faction from creating too many enemies and build up strong image in the eye of ppl.

Leadership - Open minded, sincere, treat your member with heart, accept constructive opinion, and able to identify and assign the right ppl for the right job, always neutral and able to determine what is right and wrong based on faction rule

Recognition - Recognize those who made contribution to the faction. Recognition may not be always money or materials. It can be words, action, response, etc

Home - This is another important element for a strong faction. You want your member to feel like this is the only faction that he/she should be in because this is their home.

Relationship - maintain good and healthy relationship with all members. Help your factionmate if time is permitted. Remember this game is all about group effort. You can;t do much alone no matter how good you are..

HolyInferno - Sanctuary

YngWiE - Leader (?Ghost?) - good guy. One of the only people that really gave the "you can come to me for whatever" feel among the officers. When I heard he was given the leadership, I was a bit ...reserved because of his easy going nature which seemed to conflict with the position of leader in the most aggresive TW guild.

Xaratul - Director (?Ghost?) - another good guy. Didn't get to know him to well in my time with nef but I would say he fits right where he is ^^

BeastLeO - Marshall - teadybear

asWhales - Marshall - dont know well. Provides logistical stuff for the faction is what i got from her/him. He/she is better with the "(?Ghost?)" tag. His/her wife/husband is the founder/leader of Eminence. (confusing huh? lol)

Templar - Marshall (one of the top barbs, super geared) - templar templar templar. He's had his friends, I've had mine. Very singular group type of personalty which would pretty much guarantee his continued stay in nefarious. This kitty isnt the one to leave his home for anything.

Makeda - Marshall (seen her in Steel before) - very in your face person. Personality totally conflicts with my own so I might be a bit biased on her eval. so I'll just shut it ^^

Attama - a veno. Had no idea she was a officer. Good for her.

Falls - ex Leader (seen her before) - I like him. He is pretty upfront most of the time with his intentions and actions so I give him credit for that. I think the game got the best of him back in the day, so he stepped down.

Harima Kenji (seen him before) - no comment.

MorgulLord - Super guy. Easy to talk to but I think he is real busy, unless I woulda expected him with the leader title over his head >.>

PooRitan (seen him before) - name rings a bell but my goldfish memory curses me yet again.

Sinanju (one of the first, one of the best clerics) - He was one of the first neffies and one of the first officers (apparently they ninja promoted him). Left and then went back with yours truly for some fun ^^.

venomeow - mmm, nice person. Officer material? questionable, but i have been out of nef for a long time, so things mightve changed.

Sayenne (seen her around, helped me with fb) - b:dirty . One of the most passive aggressive people I've ever met in this game. Watch out for her cause she'll rip your heart out, and quietly too.

Whiner - was a ghost even when I was in Nef..

Xoria - quit

Dorm - quit a loooooong time ago. Owns the server that hosts the nef forums.

Heavenfire - class clown persona. Nice guy tho ^^

Neck - quit a loooooong time ago

Venomeow said it all really. We're usually too busy doing our jobs. Being an officer in Nef, you really have to work your butts off to make sure the faction is running. Remember, we all have real life and family as well. Xaratul is nowhere near a ghost, nor Yng. Xara's been trying to get me to join Nef since level 25. LOL Long haul recruitment. b:chuckle

That is one of the reasons Nef stands strong. There are other who have NEVER donated and have "super" gear. It just takes time. It's a group effort; not solely just one person. That's what makes a faction strong.

No body said they were celebrities and no ones asking for an interview for the moment. The OP just wanted to neutrally think about some factors that contributed to the current results.

Where is the flame?? Please state where i bashed the faction outright. Im just sticking to what the OP said. Why dont you get on your main and stop hiding in an alt name? Are you venomeow? cause the only person i ever saw that spazzed outright on a comment and jumped and joyously called it a flame just to retort, was her so far in my whole time posting on this forum, that i remember even to this day.

You cannot have a discussion of 'dissecting' (aka looking into) a faction without neutrally looking at the good and bad. This thread is about finding/dissecting logically (or might not even be logical at all), the what, where, and hows of a result. If you are just looking for praise then its the wrong thread. Good points will be made but there are always possibilities that negative areas will be discussed. Frankly i do love these kind of analyzing threads and was a bit disappointed when it derailed.

u should ask Templar before u say all nefarious officers... i was in BH with him a week ago split wine cost he said he didnt have to pay because he was a celeb and continued to say that a few times . So i just call him a celeb now!
