Language filter

I've looked everywhere and i couldnt find an option to remove the language filter from the game. Parental lock should be an option (as is in any decent game), not forced upon. Its extremely irritating and doesnt prevent foul language in any way, making it pointless. All it does is make people type wrong with diferent characters like numbers/symbols to go around it. I cant make a simple joke with my friends or emphasize a situation without having to figure out which letter i should replace in order for the filter not to kick in.
The players or parents who dont want their children reading such words, they can leave filter on. Its that simple. Just give everyone else who chooses to be able to use any word in the language dictionary the option to do so. Freedom of speech is a right.

This is amusing , by level 82 you haven't understood yet that PWI is an ASIAN game. Their culture does not share the same values as western culture does.Inactive on HT

Funny thing about contracts, they tend to overrule things like freedom of speech. See, you agreed to the terms and conditions when you first started playing, hopefully you actually read those terms and conditions, as they're a legally binding contract. Not reading contracts is monumentally stupid, as for all you know you just agreed to give your first born child to Perfect World Entertainment to be used as a coffee slave. Anyway, by agreeing to the terms and conditions you agreed to follow their rules, and if they say no swearing, then freedom of speech is irrelevant as you gave that right up the moment you signed that contract.0 -

you have shown your ignorance... [removed] is an "Asian" game, and they have an option to turn off the filter (which of course i promptly did)0 -
I think the idea here is, if you have to use foul language you get your point across, you need to re-take basic english classes.Main characters

At least half the internet could stand to retake basic English anyway, considering they can't spell rogue right, or grasp the concept that you capitalize names and the beginning of sentences, and punctuate where appropriate. b:angry0

unfortunately, text is text is text is text... you need to be "colorful" with your writing if you want others to truly understand what your are "saying"... generally, you can use various tricks like caps and emphasis, but sometimes... you just need a good **** or **** to plain out say FML... xD0 -

While they've fixed some of the false positives, I'm sure you remember how the filter butchers innocuous sentences like:
"I bought some Japanese firecrackers when I got my cockatrice."
ie. "I bought some ***anese fire*******s when I got my ****atrice."
It's that type of nonsense that makes me want to disable it.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -
I am amused how PWI censors a name of a country located in Southeastern Europe.0

Yes, well you can only blame other people for that. If they would stop creating such insulting words, there would be no need to filter everything.Main characters

Well you can still write the filtered words by simply putting a dot after the first letter. But I do agree that word filtering should be optional.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Doing that goes against the ToS since you are bypassing a game system and because using the language breaks the rules in the first place. You are breaking the rules just to break more rules!b:laugh
The filter is there because they don't want anyone using that language at all.Main characters

You agreed to the TOS when you signed up. I'd like a filter just for all the people who keep going around the filters. I don't like seeing it. My kids can read and they often sit here with me.
Here is a simple solution though. The game is chat room enabled. Make your own chat room to spew your dirty laundry, jokes, racism and sexual talk into(not you specifically). Then you and your friends can yak it up without anyone else being offended. And without you worrying about someone ticketing your lewdness. Problem Solved.
And btw, a person who talks about "adult" things, is no different than a pedofile. Considering there are 13 year olds playing this game. You never know for sure how old the person on the other side of the conversation is.
Remember: the internet, where men are men, women are men, and children are FBI agents.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -
I dont encourage foul language but I'm not outraged by it. Like it or not some people express themselves in an unorthodox way. All I'm saying is the last thing we need is language ****. There were good guildmates of mine in other mmos that had an exemplary behaviour and by unfortunate chances they droped a curse word or two when they were nervous, only once. And a goody two shoes, ToS flinging teacher's pet SS them and got them banned. Language isn't an accurate reflection of a person. Get your sticks out of your ToS forbbiden places and relax.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Also, what some of you are forgetting, if a player wants to insult another, they will do so. No amount of filtering will stop it. However, like someone already mentioned before, proper text sometimes gets mixed and filtered, butchering the english language.
The only diference between what we have now and a optional filter is that players wont have to learn to type incorrectly like they do with filter.
PS: Elitism is far more offensive than foul language. Should i report you?PWI:

As I stated my post wasn't necessarily directed at JUST YOU. Just those who tend to break the tos. The reason words like cracker and such are filtered out is because somewhere along the line some wonderful people decided to use it as slang and an insult. If people would stop doing that with normal use words of the English language then they wouldn't have to worry about it.
I think the filter would be a great idea. Where people could turn it off and on. However; it would be much like the filter already in use. Where ***** still comes up.
PS: which one is against the terms of service? Then figure out what needs to be reported![SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -
It's as simple as this:
There are two sides to this argument. One is the tight-fisted, ToS-worshiping zealots that are striving to keep the ToS upheld to the finest point, and that everything in the ToS should be abolute, with no gray area.
Then there are the radical rogues, those who want the pure freedom of choosing whether they want to filter the language or not. These people want to completely shut down the ToS-abiding zealots.
...in a nutshell, both of the sides are purile children fighting over a nonsensical matter, when they could be working together to fix REAL problems in this game...
...like Nix's Flesh Ream.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

The problem really isn't the radicals, or the zealots as you put it. The problem is with a flawed system within PW. They should have a filter to start with, and this wouldn't be an issue. Period.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -

Far from that. "The rogues" only want a little flexibility and better judgement regarding the circumstances the "horrible violation of rules" takes place. That's all.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

You see what I did here? By redirecting your attention to my clearly ignorant and inflamatory post, I was able to start to bring both sides a bit closer to an understanding point, without the need to attack one another.
