  • Yo Apoc, glad to hear you are doing another! I've been getting back into it again too. I have a few I started but never finished. I'm relearning the tools now.
  • Thanks for the suggestions. We do plenty of goofing around and having fun outside of combat, but we like to tackle the content as a team as well. The CTA weekend was great since we could group and all get bumped up so we could fight together. I was hoping for something similar when CTA's aren't running. Also we aren't…
  • Is the goal to remove quests from players who aren't active or to remove quests that aren't being played/aren't up to some minimum standard, i.e. "abandoned" by the author or by the players? It seems a bad thing to remove quality quests just because the author is no longer playing, especially because this is a F2P game. I…
  • Thats how it happened last time too. I think it would be a good idea to get your 20 plays before the contest starts if they do another contest.
  • Congrats everyone! Unfortunately work kept me out of town and I wasn't able to play any during the contest. Were the entries listed in game anywhere or just here on the website? In any case, sorry I wasn't able to play the quests during the event. :( I look forward to playing them now!
  • I think on the main foundry page for the quest, the "submit to cryptic" button becomes "retract" or something like that. At least it used to.
  • I did a quick test this morning. I'll do more later when I have some time. Here are my initial impressions: I LOVE:* The free camera mode. It will make life much easier. * Adding/editing objects in 3D editing mode. * The new "R" mode for moving objects around in 3D editing mode. These 3 things will make it MUCH easier to…
  • I just patched up my Preview so I can play around this weekend. I recently finished a quest with lots of hand-placed details, so the current process is fresh in my mind. I look forward to seeing how it works in the new tool. I have a new quest in mind, but haven't started, which is why I asked about eventually porting (in…
  • If I built a quest from scratch in the Preview Foundry, is there any way of porting it to live? I wouldn't need a button to do it at will, but maybe, say, a way to bring it over when the Expansion goes live? I'll definitely check it out, but without a way to eventually get my work to Live, I probably wouldn't put a whole…
  • Quest Name: Laboratory of the Mad Psion @yourname: @winin Short Code: NW-DIE8OOAWK Quest Type: Balanced (combat/story) Average Duration: 20 min Amount of Combat: enough to keep a dwarf happy Starts at: a door in the safe part of the Tower District Mission Summary: When a wealthy elf contracts you to recover her unstable…
  • Bad internet! (sorry for double post.)
  • You may use me if you like. I'm a dude.
  • Maybe change the name of that forum then, since wanting reviews isn't necessarily the same thing as wanting to be spotlighted. And as someone wanting to review new quests, I wouldn't necessarily think to go there. That sounds more like a place for polished/finalized quests.
  • Awesome! Thanks for the extension!
  • I agree with Zahinder. And if you don't follow the basic conventions that Cryptic uses (e.g. the meaning of text color), your quest sticks out like a sore thumb. Not to mention the fact that Cryptic maps are the standard that other players will rate you relative to. So you should play them and think about what works, what…
  • You should be able to publish over and over unless there is an unfinished task in your quest (they have the yellow triangle symbol with the black ! in it). Unless they have disabled publishing for some reason. Since this is the test shard, they may have turned it off while they are testing things. Or are you having trouble…
  • I love to create stories and games, so the Foundry combines those two. I also enjoy working with the real and effective (15-30 min length) limits we have. I had to change my stories around to fit, but they came out better than I had originally planned. I also enjoy all the feedback (good and bad) from players. It is…
  • The problem might be that the land is being drawn out at a farther distance than the water. Maybe change your graphics settings and see if that has an effect? Or jump overboard and run out there to see what's going on?
  • I like that idea. Sort of a Foundry version of Ardent Coins.
  • I do easy/standard encounters througout the quest (1 at a time) and then do a hard encounter for the end boss (and middle boss if there is one). For the most part, players seem to enjoy that pattern. I've gotten lots of positive feedback on the "tough but fun" final encounter. One thing I learned (and recently fixed) is…
  • For working in the Foundry, specifically when selecting objects while editing Foundry maps in 3D mode, not for fighting monsters in the live game.
  • For distance issue, your best bet is to place the object in such a way that it isn't visible from far away. Make it so you have to round a corner to see the waterfall, etc.
  • The first post here has lots of links with great info: http://nw-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?117831-The-Foundry-List-of-UGC-and-Authors Scroll down to the bottom of the first post. One of the links (encounters for dummies) has a list of boss-ish encounters you can use.
  • Cool, now we can get some dungeon runs going. Buy a set of PVP gear before they go BOP.
  • I advocate writing everything out of game so you can spell check at a minimum and get proof readers as well. Google docs is great for that. Write dialog like a script.
  • Also they said they can't feature any quest with IP characters. So no Drizzt or Zelda, etc.
  • can you copy to test before you respec (and then repeat) and then get many chances to try different specs?
  • There are a lot of things you can do, shouldn't do, etc., but it is like trying to make a viral video. You can't do it on purpose. I try to make something that is fun for me. Fun to make as well as fun to play. Then I share it and talk it up to try to get others to play it. My only goals are to have fun making it and for…
  • Apoc has a post about that somewhere here. In alpha, we ran his with a group of level 60 chars a bunch of times and gave him feedback. So basically, you have to get 4 buddies/willing testers to run it with you. Which means you have to publish a test version.
