My cleric picks up tons of aggro due to AoE, not so much heals. I tend to hit 10 enemies at a time in big fights, and my DPS tends to put me just behind the party's rogue. I haven't had a way to test heal aggro vs damage aggro yet, but I know the AoE picks up mobs very easily.
The healer companion is pretty good. Its AI is nice, and on the whole it has kept my rogue topped up well. Myself on my rogue, and a friend on his GWF have had a blast taking on dungeon content with just the two of us, and a pair of healer NPCs. Which, coincidentally, is about the right level of challenge for a dungeon.…
In my own estimation, "D&D" can be summed up in a couple key concepts (note, I have only played 3.0 and 3.5): 1) Freedom within rules: We are able to make pretty much any kind of character we can imagine, but they had to fit within certain criteria of attributes to gain specific abilities. You can't take power attack until…
I like GW2 for what it is. It has a lot of innovation, and a solid dungeon experience (though many people find the dungeons excessively difficult/grindy). The PvP system is also very well done, particularly the World vs World. The first dungeon I saw in a stream for Neverwinter looked extremely easy. Perhaps they were good…
I'd be happier if I had some inkling that we could be more vanity-minded, and at least use any armour appearance for something we've discovered/unlocked, so that people don't get stuck with a look they don't particularly care for, but must use because of stats. Hoods are all fine and good, but if you get a nice hood at…
It's entirely possible that a more evil-aligned story will develop as time goes on, sort of the way the Klingon faction developed over time in STO. I wasn't in STO from the get go, but I do have almost 3 years under my belt, and I heard they developed the Klingons as a new faction once they had established the game Fed…
New classes are something I truly look forward to. Now, if they could get some kind of DM client up and going for foundry missions, Cryptic would raise the bar to a whole new level for an MMO.
I can only comment on my own experience in online gaming and MMOs in general. My introduction to online gaming was with NWN, shortly after the release of the Underdark expansion. I had been acting as a DM in a Star Wars forum RPG, and wanted to be a player, and just enjoy a game from that perspective, and a friend told me…
The game looks pretty dependent on mouse controls, but an 8-button gaming mouse will probably cover most of the needed key binds, if what I can pick out in the videos really is as many onscreen abilities as we can have at one time. I think the voice recognition software is a good idea as well, once it's properly trained to…
I've always loved the ranger class as compared to a fighter, because its martial ability in melee and ranged is as good (with only slightly less damage from the weapon spec feats, but with the bane feats this could be more than made up), and it gets a lot of skill points, particularly detection and stealth skills. As this…
So, does this mean that characters might be able to use more than one kind of armour? Or is knowledge of this sort still covered by the NDA? I know that one of the biggest complaints about armour in most MMOs I play, is that people are restricted to X armour type, and thus a warrior, who would normally wear heavy, cannot…
The specific rating system would have to be something the community agrees upon as a good standard, and the criteria I put forward were just examples to get the ball rolling. The ones zaphtastic listed are good as well. As I said before, the main goal is just to support those making new (and fun) content, as well as making…
One of the dances I've seen in a video was the "sexy_dance" as the STO foundry had it listed, which was available to players for drinking a beverage that was required for a featured mission. I never did get why they didn't sell that emote, as if it went for a dime each, they'd have made thousands off of it. But I expect…
Good point about Baldur's Gate. I wasn't sure it was even still around, but I haven't been online in NWN since the last server I played went offline. I never really got into NWN2, partly due to the server size restrictions (2GB mod limits meant that worlds had to be kept small, and content minimal), while in NWN1 I had…
I'm glad that wall of text was useful, and hope your NWN1 adventures go well. Don't be frustrated by the gamespy issues, and remember to use direct connect from whatever info the server web sites give, and you should have no trouble. Also, most servers will require that you download CEP 2.x (not sure on the current version…
This is a wall of text, but I hope you can take something useful from it. Neverwinter 1 had a very good RP environment, meaning it was policed by many of the server operators/DMs to keep up quality, and usually not so restrictive as to be draconian. For my own tastes, I preferred the tight-knit communities of roleplayers…
A point I'm familiar with, and can agree to. I've done a lot of math with the D&D system, and you tend to be working with differences of 1-2 damage on the whole, when working with immunities or resistances, due to the way percentages will calculate. That's good for dice, due to using the small numbers meant to be…
I'll add my two cents worth, as a long time player of D&D, and in particular Neverwinter Nights. I can see both sides of the argument, and validity in both. On the one hand, you have the "D&D Purists," who want to be able to have that carefully crafted character, who may be a rogue, or a fighter, or whatever, but is also…
I don't know about the duration, but in my experience, using stealth does tend to slow one down. In Neverwinter Nights, using stealth mode required that you move at walking speed. The same goes for active search, unless you are playing an elf. As a human, using stealth and active search together reduced you to a crawl. I…
One thing I used to like about my Ranger/Shadowdancer (with plenty of points spent in rogue cross-class abilities), was the ability to be very versatile, and disable most traps, while also being able to rig a door or bridge to be uncrossable except by a skilled rogue. While to my understanding, the 4th edition removes any…
One thing I liked about D&D was that you could specialize in many things, and still be very powerful. As a ranger/shadowdancer, I've used Rapier/Shortsword, with epic weapon focus feats all the way through level 40. A fighter could easily focus in 3-4 weapons, and get all of their epic specialization feats, due to epic…
