  • For better or for worse, the weapon variety, along with any challenge whatsoever, is over at DDO. Unfortunately, graphics and playerbase are stuck over here at Neverwinter.
  • I couldn't foresee a single circumstance whereby Cryptic benefits from wiping everyone's character, whether or not they refund Zen, give everyone 1 million Zen for free, provide free Tier 3 mounts, or whatever. The devs have _explicitly_ stated that there'd be no character wipes once Open Beta started. I'm sure you can…
  • I couldn't imagine running many fights more than ten times. I'd gouge my eyes out from boredom. I don't think I'd mind a wider variety of boss tactics in this game. If folks are running dungeons that many times, either (1) they really love grinding, in which case they don't care about tactics, since the sole goal is to…
  • Man, if level 1-20 is "awesome," then I'm worried about lvls 21-60. My experience at low levels is that this game is positively bog standard. If I have to watch one more ogre/orc/undead thing start its really long, slow, tedious attack animation- giving me five seconds to move out of its way- I think I'll cry. I shudder to…
  • Yes, there are NPC helms at lvl 20 as well as crafted lvl 20 ones.
  • I have no illusions about how seriously I'll take the game once I reach level 60. I also doubt seriously I'll be levelling a second character any time soon after I get my first to max level. The game's plenty enjoyable on a single playthrough, doing some Foundry quests along with the sole official quest line. I'll spend a…
  • I was underwhelmed when, during the surprise party, I was encouraged to grab a tankard and take a drink. I could, in fact, do neither. Is this any kind of a big problem? Of course not. However, it's essentially the very first time in the game that a player is treated as a hero. The developers might have done well to take a…
  • Is that the only way to get the coins, to log in? Seems a little, umm, obsessive if that's the case.
  • I'd be wary of throwing around phrases like "perfect MMO." Firstly, this game is far from perfect. Secondly, no game is ever going to be perfect. I think that all any of us can do as beta testers is help the devs understand what would bring the game _closer_ to perfect for us. It'll never get there, though. Speaking for…

  • See now, I find DDO to be one of the best MMOs for actual grouping, adventuring, experiencing a self-contained storyline in each dungeon. It's really far from perfect, of course. It doesn't work well at all as a solo game (even with NPC "hirelings") and the mechanics (as you note) are wonky at best. Still, there's…

  • I think that's a good way to think of it, Unclejoey. It's a fun action game with some MMO elements. A few of these elements also happen to appear in D&D 4e, but the game is no way a D&D MMO.

  • I'm near Sacto myself. Even though this is kind of a necroed thread, I'm sure we will find other SF Bay Area folks to guild up with when the game's released!
  • Yeah, it'd feel really Weimar Germany-esque (or Zimbabwe) to have 1 dollar be equivalent to tens of thousands of astral diamonds and have a single piece of armor cost 200,000. Why not lop several zeroes off of each and make them valued appropriately? Of course, the announcement has already been made that folks get x00,000…
  • I like this idea. Either via community vote or direct developer involvement, the modules that are judged "best" get special loot. Very quickly, these modules will crowd out the majority of the XP farms. Of course there'd have to be a way to keep these top-quality missions from pushing out the…
  • I imagine they must have bumped folks up to level 60 for that PvP test. Or are players all automatically given a max level toon, like Guild Wars 2?
