It appears you are correct. I'm using Chrome and had Ad Block enabled. Disabling Ad Block removed this issue.

I can confirm, the "Send to Training" button will bring up a "are you sure?" dialog. Selecting OK from that dialog simply returns to the companion selection window without sending the companion to training.
