  • The thing with playing a role is that it's up to you. Always. I've had tabletop sessions where a player could be induced to roll dice and little more than that. And I've had MMO sessions where we stopped in the middle of a dungeon to examine a stray piece of game art and discuss as characters what its implications might be…
  • If I recall correctly, there's also a cube in the Water Clock Guild Tomb mission.
  • Most players do NOT have 8.5 million rough astral diamonds lying around (enough to refine for a year) if you even do. I would wager, in fact, that most players have never hit the refine limit even once.
  • Be careful how much you read into such things. Early videos clearly showed warlock players too, yanno.
  • 5th edition goes back to Vancian magick? Ugh. Thanks for saving me the trouble of looking into it. I'm amazed at the players who earnestly argue for a system where players can spend huge chunks of time being largely useless or egregiously weaker than other players.
  • We all know when we open a lockbox that there's no guarantee to get anything particular inside. We all know that it's a roll of the dice. A gamble, if you will. If you focus on getting that particular outcome, then you are also taking a gamble with success. Maybe you'll get it, maybe you won't. You don't really have any…
  • Forums of this nature usually employ one or more company moderators who not only try to keep the peace, but also take note of any of the productive comments, ideas, and suggestions and present them in meetings to the rest of the development crew. In addition to this, it is not uncommon for developers to go through areas…
  • Hm. Keys would aid one aspect - delimiting time frames for people with cramped schedules, but it would hinder the other aspect - getting many people to participate at one time who might otherwise be doing different things. Of the two, I suspect the second is actually the more important one, since unless you can get a…
  • Thank you for proving my final point. :p
  • Variation within a gender is usually FAR larger than variation between the genders. It's not a difficult task at all to find femmes in the real would who could easily destroy most men with their bare hands. Yes, ON AVERAGE femmes may be less physically strong and more resilient to disease, but weak femmes aren't going to…
  • Server merge is sometimes a stopgap measure to gather a flagging population, yes. BUT in this case it had been overtly stated from WELL before day 1 that there would be only one server. This is not something that will be done from desperation, but a carrying out of the original blueprint. A designed choice for which none…
  • Two points. I like to think that I am a reasonable person. I never assumed they would have a rollback. In fact, at the time I suggested to many of the people who predicted the utter destruction of the economy that it would have a negligible long-term effect. And, as it happens, I was right. To suggest that only your…
  • I wonder... if there were TWO icons for each profession NPC, one of each gender, I wonder if the player-base would favour one over the other or be completely indifferent. Or some for one role and others for another role. A curious social experiment.
  • I'm not sure 'good' is really defined by 'okay with genocide of creatures known to be evil'. It is pretty clear that nothing less than genocide what some of those elves would be happy with. And remember that quest where you go into kobold homes and murder the ones tending nests? Those guys aren't exactly aggressors...…
  • Heh. AFK Gauntlgrym = tier 1 for everyones!
  • Stop trying to pretend. You were LOOKING for reasons to hate this game and the developers. Thus your 'after all', OP. Congratulations. You have found the excuse you needed to justify your prejudices. I won't waste time trying to convince you otherwise... I just think you should be a little more honest with yourself.
  • It is sadly often the case that overreaction is more harmful than what is being reacted to. An excellent case is cited in Freakonomics, where it is observed that the American reaction to a failed bombing that directly harmed no one costs the equivalent of fourteen human lives every year. But humans are very loss-averse. So…
  • I herd you like mudkips?
  • Um... you realize that it didn't take Germany a few hundred years to restabilize when they had hyperinflation, right? You realize that there are literally dozens of sinks built into the economy to suck diamonds out of it, right? You realize that they can track all the large transactions and even write a quick program to…
  • If you never use the auction house, or trade with other players, or ever plan to buy zen, then perhaps it doesn't affect you much. But it's not an accident that the game has these features. Cryptic WANTS you to feel free to do them and gain some advantage from them. Perhaps one of the worse effects is a kind of snowballing…
  • There's really no benefit to Cryptic to announce a date. If they're off (pretty likely in a beta situation), many folk will complain. Even if they're dead on, some folk will simply not play until then... and how is that to their benefit?
  • Wiping the servers is like using a nuke to stop a street gang. Yes, it will stop the gang, but it's about a thousand times more than necessary. In this case, virtually every transaction is logged and tracked. If Cryptic wants to spend the manpower, they can dig all that out. I suspect, however, that it's not WORTH the…
  • Oh! You wanted to whine a bit. Well, carry on.
  • Wiping everything to solve the problems created by a few deviants is kind of like nuking a city to get rid of a street gang. It's arguably even more nonsensical since Cryptic probably has enough logs to track down every single transaction if they wished to spend the manpower on it. Given that whole servers are still having…
  • <looks around hastily> Okay. Imma tell you the SECRET TRUTH. What THEY don't want you to know... In fact, when you dismount your horse is DISINTEGRATED. Gone. Vaporized. That cloud you see? That was your horse. And when you get your horse, you're actually SUMMONING a NEW horse from the realms. Some poor hapless beast…
  • Personally, I think 3.5 was garbage compared to 4. The rules were loopy, the balance almost nonexistent, and on and on. 4 was streamlined and straightforward. Even Pathfinder makes me wince these days. So many problems. But to each their own.
