try just sending it to your @handle, that's how i do most of mine. just place the item in the slots, put whatever title, then put your @name in the to box, and hit send.
You can buy the other companions at the merchant you talk to during that quest. As of right now they all stop at level 15, until they get the tomes added in to upgrade the companion.

You could always acquire some regen gear for between combat areas, or as someone said, use the portable altars to heal. They heal at a decent rate. Actually, mailing items to yourself is a way to pass stuff to alts you find during your travels. aka twinking. I've used it to pass various crafting materials to the character that's working on that specific crafting skill.
having this same problem myself, have an apostrophe in the name, too. Also it's my 3rd character slot, had this problem back during BW4 but forgot to post about it.
I have had this problem, too. Most of the items were for the great weapon fighter. As it is not playable yet, I was wondering if the red block was just so people would ignore the items, or someone missed tagging them with icons.
