  • Heh :) They insist this is a beta. That means we are beta testers; not people playing a live game. And as beta testers, our function here is to hammer on the game and test everything. So why are they asking for dollars in order to beta test different character builds? That's very strange behavior. If the game were live it…
  • Of course the game would be better for the players if the gear was BOP. But you don't seem to understand: the purpose of micro-transaction games is to get people to make transactions. This fact takes higher priority in game design decisions than the question of whether or not a given thing is actually good, and don't…
  • Or as Second Technician Arnold J. Rimmer once put it, "There's an old human saying: If you're going to talk garbage, expect pain." I hate to break this to you, but if you're being muted that often then your interpretation of your chat behavior obviously differs from reality.
  • On my 60 GF I did a respec on my feats and I went from 8,000 GS to just over 10,000. I didn't change a single piece of gear. All I did was respec my feats and I gained nearly 2,000 additional GS. I don't even pretend to understand how this system works.
  • That's not correct. Cryptic is being "blamed" for a poorly implemented party loot system that enables and even encourages poor player behavior rather than preventing it. You can't make people cool but you can stop them from acting uncool. This has been proven in other games which have solved the problem. No new rocket…
  • I agree with all of that. And I don't have a problem with a game moving away from the trinity. But as you've pointed out, the fact that a healer class is still necessary means that all they've really accomplished is to make a poor tank. If you're trying to do away with the trinity then do it. Don't give me trinity classes…
  • On the contrary, it works exactly as it should if the need button is made available only when it makes sense. You can't make people cool, but you can prevent them from acting on their uncool impulses. A completely different system where everyone gets their own drops is also good, and known to be good because it works just…
  • Obviously I can't say for sure either way. But what I do know is that we're not talking about one piece of gear marked level 38. As I said there are a number of purple pieces with a range of levels other than 60, and the span of that range is at least as wide as 38-49. You can confirm this yourself if you can stand dealing…
  • The point of my post was to respond to another post in this thread. That's generally why one quotes a post in their own. The substance of my post amounts to an observation which I feel to be correct and of concern to all of us who rolled GF. Granted, some people react violently to information but I've learned that this…
  • If you look at the level range and the number of purple pieces available within that range it seems unlikely that this is a bug. If it was one piece I could buy that it was a typo in a table. But so many? Either it's intentional or they have a dyslexic cat in charge of maintaining that data.
  • Again, if that's what "need" actually meant then there would only be two buttons: roll and pass. Unfortunately the system is broken in such a way that effectively there are only two buttons -- unless your party happens to consist of idealists, critical thinkers, and decent humans. And one look at the forum should tell you…
  • Neverwinter's combat mechanics are consistent with every other Cryptic game: CC is king followed by pure DPS. Sure, they make games with trinity classes but it seems clear that de-powering the tank role and empowering the CC & DPS roles is their "solution" to the classic trinity problem; namely, people hate waiting around…
  • I'm sorry but that's just plain wrong thinking. What you're describing is greed by definition: "I want it because I can profit from its sale and it doesn't matter that I can't actually use it." There are three buttons for a reason. If it was true that everyone has a legit claim to a piece of Cleric gear (for example) then…
  • No one cares if a rogue rolls need on a rogue item. The problem is the CW rolling need on the TR item, and the GF item, and the GWF item. Restricting need as described will not "create new issues". It SOLVES the issue. Honestly, it's not rocket science.
  • But that's precisely why the system is flawed. You can't make people cool but you can prevent them from being uncool. The system rewards the needtards rather then preventing them from acting in a needtarded manner, therefore it is flawed. A very simple alteration to the existing system would render the inherent uncoolness…
  • That is exactly the problem. The way the system works now actively encourages needtards. It rewards the needtard and penalizes the good human being. All they have to do is disable the 'need' button for equipment that is specific to a class other than yours. That would solve the major issue. And if they wanted extra credit,…
  • No, "ponzi scheme" doesn't make any sense whatsoever in this context. The guy who keeps using that term doesn't understand what it means. In a Ponzi scheme you have waves or tiers of investors to whom you promise great returns. You take the money they invested in your fake enterprise and give some of it back, tricking them…
  • Well I can only lead you to information; I can't make you drink it.
  • It does not. You seem to think "ponzi scheme" means any kind of financial scam. This is incorrect. A Ponzi scheme is a very specific kind of con that does not in any way resemble anything you typed. You also have not stated a logical case in which anyone could be "scammed" into tipping an author. People tip if they enjoyed…
  • I don't mean to sound jaded, but welcome to micro-transaction games. Decisions and work priority revolve around getting people to make transactions, and all else is secondary. This is why I prefer the subscription model.
  • That's not even close to the definition of a Ponzi scheme. Maybe you meant something else? Actually I'm not even sure what you could have meant. How can you "con" someone into tipping you? Why would people tip unless they enjoyed the quest? The real reason tipping is limited is to prevent you from using the Foundry to…
  • There's a very good solution that other games have been using for years, which is to have separate values for powers in PVP and PVE. Not separate powers, just separate values. For example, let's say you have a fireball spell. In PVE that spell does damage X, while in PVP it does damage Y. There are two copies of the values…
  • Never mind, now that you've finished your post I can see this isn't the case.
  • No, don't go downloading executables from random places. Just restore it from the chest.
  • I didn't have to patch anything. I just restored the launcher, excepted the game folder from scanning, and I was able to get right in. I'm curious; do you guys who are now downloading gigs have streaming disabled?
  • I have not installed any Windows updates today, and it was definitely the AV program that popped up and warned me that it was removing Neverwinter.exe to the virus chest. I played the game prior to the 2pm Avast update without issue.
  • Yeah, don't reinstall the game. The game is still there unless you nuked it yourself. Just restore the exe from the chest/locker or whatever your AV calls it and MAKE SURE you add it as an exception or it'll just happen again. Looks like there was a 2pm (PST) update to Avast and for whatever reason it finds Neverwinter.exe…
  • My antivirus scanner (Avast) just detected the executable as a virus, moved the exe to the virus chest and deleted the shortcut from the desktop. I've been playing the game for some time now without issue. In fact I was playing earlier today just fine, so this is very new behavior. Maybe this also accounts for what some of…
