As an author, I would very much LOVE to be able to start out a character in a quest, stripped of all their gear, companion, etc. Just them and their wits.
Granted, this wouldn't be a very popular Foundry by a majority of the players, but how many other experienced DMs have started a game with "You wake up in a cell. Your head feels as though a dwarf is shaping steel in it. You instinctively reach for your weapon, only to find that you have been stripped to your tunic. What do you do now?"
Yes, obviously, they would find their gear and get it back, even if they leave the Foundry before finding it, it's automatically restored upon leaving.
Regardless, I think this would be pretty cool. :-)

This was possible with the Neverwinter Nights editor, which you may very well know and be feeling nostalgic for. It was an interesting, if frustrating, mechanic.
You could do it using the "honor system." You could give the player instructions to remove everything in an [ooc] directions and explain that they will "find" pieces of their armor (quest items) that is when they should "reequip" that armor slot. Roleplayers and people who want the story would at least follow along.

Sadly, I haven't been around that long... lol
What I'm feeling nostalgic for is being able to share my stories without the frustration that is the Foundry editor.. lol

I might try something like that myself!
Interesting idea... thanks for stealing it. ;-)
I appreciate the creativity that I've found in this section of the forum. Thank you. :-)

Ok, since I'm not going to be spouting stuff you already know, there's an NWN module ("module" being UGC) called "A Dance With Rogues" that used the equipment strip multiple times. There was always a way to recover your gear, provided you explored enough to find it. As the name indicates, it was a very rogue-focused mod. Thematically, the player character is vulnerable and growing into self-reliance, and while the equipment strips could be exasperating, they forced you to use your skills to escape, find your gear, and carry on.
However, NWN's game engine actually had skill checks, so you had stealth that was for sneaking rather than strictly a combat mechanic, and could create dialogue with bluff/persuasion/intimidation checks. Pickable locks, traps with difficulty ratings, things like that.

Funny.. I just stated developing one like that. I'm just faking it, and letting the 'recover their equipment' fairly quickly into the story. We'll see it how it goes...
