The Best Crafting Assets - Which to Invest In?

Okay, my limited study reveals the obvious, which I will list:

Crucible & Hammer are each useful in 3 professions.
Anvil, Shears, & Awl are each useful in 2 professions.
ALL OTHERS ARE ONLY USEFUL IN ONE PROFESSION. (In caps for emphasis for new players)

That said, I can understand why the prices of these particular assets may be at a premium. I'll go a bit further into my analysis for those that have an interest, profession-by-profession: (in no particular order)

Weaponsmithing: Rendered useless by Mod 6 and artifact weapons.
Alchemy: I'd focus on Mortars if you want to generate income via dye sales. I see no other point investing in this profession.
Jewelcrafting: Rendered useless by Mod 6 and artifact jewelry. There remains some small interest in achieving the newest "personal" ranked rings, but that is all.
Artificing: Rendered useless by Mod 6 and artifact weapons.
Platesmithing: Only viable when you want to create gf/paladin armors & pants/shirts that have better stats than random blue 70's, Eternal, Sharandar, or Dread Ring. [edited] Armor kits are evidently a worthwhile result from this profession.
Mailsmithing: Only viable when you want to create cleric/gwf armors & pants/shirts that have better stats than random blue 70's, Eternal, Sharandar, or Dread Ring. [edited] Armor kits are evidently a worthwhile result from this profession.
Leatherworking: Only viable when you want to create warlock/rogue/ranger armors & pants/shirts that have better stats than random blue 70's, Eternal, Sharandar, or Dread Ring. [edited] Armor kits are evidently a worthwhile result from this profession.
Tailoring: Only viable when you want to create Mage armors & pants/shirts that have better stats than random blue 70's, Eternal, Sharandar, or Dread Ring. [edited] Armor kits are evidently a worthwhile result from this profession.
Black Ice Shaping: [edited] Greens/blues/purples in black ice shaping affects how much black ice you refne and/or gives a chance at a refund on how much black ice you consume when you refine.
Leadership: The reason and/or actual effect of using green assets in this profession has been a mystery since the game started. Current beliefs tell us that we earn more gold rewards when utilizing green assets here. Any info you could add here would be appreciated by masses if its real! [edited - evidently, there is no such thing as a blue or purple Leadership asset.] [edited again - there may be a purple asset that rewards +50% mission speed.]

And there you have it. I hope this thread generates some useful info and I'll be happy to update this original post if useful info emerges! Please comment.

    Do Leadership tools even come in blue and purple? I know of the green swords/armors. Anyway, using them produces extra gold from your tasks. That's not from my own experience but from one person ages ago who actually did some comparisons of results to see what difference x% improved quality makes on Leadership.

    Improved quality on Black Ice Shaping affects how much black ice you get during refining, or gives a chance at getting a refund of some of your consumed black ice when you craft an item.

    Nice explanation, but a couple of items needs to be updated.

    Mailsmithing is for both clerics and great weapon fighter shirts and pants.
    Platesmithing is for both guardian fighter and paladin shirts and pants.

    Leadership has a purple thing which grants +50% mission speed. I guess the reason to use them would be so you can finish the mission 50% faster, thus earn 50% more AD?

    Thanks for the responses - I edited above.
    I forgot about the fairly recent addition of armor kits, but I seem to remember that they are BoE, is this still true? They are still hardly farmable in professions due to the associated costs...

    Are we then agreed on the apparent uselessness of Weaponsmithing and Artificing these days?

    I've also heard of non-green Leadership resources. But only mentioned in in-game chat. If there is such a thing IRL, Id assume that it would only increase mission speed, and certainly not add AD awards. But hey - I'd love to hear different! I just checked to make certain that I only have green Leadership gear... Unfortunately, that's all I have after years of refining and opening boxes. :(

    A purple thing that increases speed is a hero, and I wasn't under the impression you were discussing people assets here. They behave the exact same way for every profession anyway.

    Heck, truth be told, shouldn't we just remove warlock from the 'playable classes' list? I'm thinking warlocks include the bulk of the current crafting base!!

    A purple thing that increases speed is a hero, and I wasn't under the impression you were discussing people assets here. They behave the exact same way for every profession anyway.

    Still completely true in my mind.
    Please comment here if anyone knows of a blue or green Leadership profession asset! (And what it actually does...)

    I have heard about green leadership ITEM assets before, but as far as I know there is no benefit whatsoever from using them. Since leadership doesn't 'craft' items such as shirts,etc where you have different level of success, this makes them superfluous.

    There are green items for leadership "Basic infantry Armor" and "Basic Infantry Weapon". You can find them in AH right now. Not many but it exists. They do nothing to improve anything from the Worn version.

    There is no blue or purple non-people leadership asset.

    I'd like to guide the topic back a bit, if you don't mind. The legend of Leadership profession assets is a side topic at best that has been explored over and over again with zero results. (I'm still interested in the conspiracy aspect as are many though. :p) Instead, I'm hoping that some people might be able to help us define the usefulness or un-usefulness of the rest of the profession assets. Here are some example questions:

    Why should I buy a bezel loupe?
    What good is a mortar after I have 3 crucibles?
    Do I need a swivel knife for anything?

    Could we please proceed in this direction?

    I forgot/overlooked to add one thing:

    Jewelcrafting also has the upgrade kits. Boosting AP gain is the most popular, boosting Stamina gain the other useful one. The third type boosting regen has been made somewhat less attractive...

    And, once you got access to the suitable high-end enchantments, the personalized rings are still BiS for most char builds. (A maxx crit built might e.g. fare better with Ward/Alliance/BI, but all in all they are darn good... ...e.g. this is what I'm crafting right now for my DC: Personalized Adamant Ring of Piercing)

    So, I'd keep Jewelcrafting fairly high up on the desirable list.

    Specific tasks require a specific first slot tool. So it might be necessary t have specifically that loupe or bezel pusher to make a, say, Gemmed whatnot Ring of Piercing...

    ...can't be bothered to look through the tasks, you can go through them on your own when they pop up (untick "Hide higher level tasks" in the frame top), or the wiki has complete lists. (e.g. here's the one for Jewelcrafting)

    Technically, the kits are even consumables - once attached to a piece of aarmour or jewelry, that's it, cannot be removed. you change to a different armour - you need a new kit...

    While we're at it: Does anybody know how this goes along with Elemental Infusion???

    kits are not worthwhile to produce. do the math how much the ingredients for them cost and how much they sell in ah to see how much profit you make each (dont forget to multiply with 0.9 or remove 10% taken by ah).

    ...this is highly variable. Sometimes ingredients are cheap (e.g. Dragon Eggs are currently expensive, they've been cheaper during Tia's high time), sometimes kit's are expensive. It is, however, somewat risky to plan on gaining income that way. There simply are specialists in the market who sometimes out-dump new entrants shamelessly... :^D

    The kit is not made by chance and it does not need heavy capital investment (purple tool).

    If the profit margin is not high enough, making it for profit is risky. If you can't sell it, you lose the posting fee.
    If the profit margin is very high, it is also easy for individual to make it himself.

    increasing mission speed increases AD since you can do more missions a day.

    Alchemy can be quite useful for transmuting the extensive elemental materials needed to upgrade the Black Ice forge and gear.

    With Black Ice Shaping if your combination of Blue and Purple assets, e.g. gravers, gets you up to a Tier 3 possibility then you have a chance at producing two Black Ice Enchantments instead of just one. This is actually quite a useful feature when you get lucky on a Greater Enchantment :)
