First of all I would like to say that I truly enjoy playing NW... well except for the epic dungeons, which are a story unto themselves... but this has to do with the new gear in the Dread and Shandar campaign zones... could some one please explain the reasoning behind putting such laughable gear in there.... when I read the patch notes, I thought, what a brilliant idea.... a reason for my friends and I to go out and collect all the little trinkets in those zones again, so that we could get some slightly better armor... what a great way to get people who have all the boons, to do those zones again... and then I see the gear they put in there, and I can "honestly" say I would not trade my level 115 gear for the pieces they are offering... I paid between 6k - 15k for each piece at AH, a mere pittance, and the stats complement each other perfectly... I wasn't expecting the new armor to be the armor I would wear forever, but just a small step forward... and they give us gear that's no better than what we have at the AH for peanuts... so a brilliant idea wasted... why ???

Well, those pieces of gear don't cost ADs, and they have unique appearances. It is a way for a person to gear up *just* by running the campaigns. If you enjoy earning your gear instead of simply buying it, and if you'd rather save your ADs for other stuff, this can be a good path toward gearing up.

For me, I personally hate the look of the T1/T2/T2.5 gear, yet I loved the look of the Thayan gear on my toon - so I've purchased so I can get the look I want.
hmmm, perhaps I should try some to see how it looks... but I don't think I could use it as everyday gear, because I prefer the stats of my level 115 gear... I don't consider it "gearing up" :-) can it be used to modify the look of your current gear, or would that cost ADs ??

I wouldn't call it laughable.... ...apart from the point that they didn't get it right. There, I might...
...weelllll. Especially the DR gear has exactly the stats that you'll want to have now: Some Power, good ArPen, Crit, and a decent chunk of LS. OK, if you run a Healer or deflect-build, it's not perfect, but for most run-off-the-mill chars it's meaningful enough.
Shar gear is another story, but hey, Shar is another story, too, with it's all but complete lack of meaningful ranged attackers. And at least for the DC there's Rec in the setup to round that set off a bit.
Also, if you have ever taken a look at the old pieces: They were a motley hodgepodge of all stats, relevant or not. Now you get good-ish chunks of the core stats and can round off with jewelery...
IMHO they did better there than I had feared. The gear is better than the overly glorified and ugly strawberry red Eternal Set from Well of Dragons.

It'll probably cost the usual 50k+ AD per piece :^/
Hmmm, went back and took another look at the dread and shandar stats... I guess shandar can't be judged as it appears to be missing the HP stats on two of the pieces... oh, I guess I should point out that i'm playing a paladin... and while all the HP, Def, and Deflection is nice... there is not a single drop of Power, Crit, or ArmPen in any of the pieces... so I guess maybe they would be nice while i'm playing on a team and have friends to kill things for me... but i'm afraid i'd never be able to kill anything while playing by myself... so i'm afraid i'll just have to stick with my level 115 blue gear for now... but thank you for the thoughtful and helpful answers... and now that I've taken the time to give it a second look, perhaps I might just get a set of that armor for playing on teams :-)
You can get a new look and some players are too dumb to gear themself properly up by buying blue HAMSTER gear out of the auctionhouse. Saw today an old player that thought he can participate in a T2 Dungeon with his old Level 60 gear and another character which only wears green level 63 at Tiamat.
Platypus wielding a giant hammer, your argument is invalild!

They are not dumb.
You are being too hard on people.
Do have in mind that some people are getting back to the game. If a player just got back ofc he will not know he can not do tiamat with his old equip. It was the top notch in mod 5, why would he think otherwise?
Also, if people can get 1800k with just green gear, and participate in tiamat, again that is not their problem.
Why would you give green equip such high gear score in the first place... ? If not to be used.
If you think it is stupid then pm them and explain them the rules.
Ranting about how people are stupid is not necessary and it is beyond you.

I know this is not exactly what the op is about, but DR gear is some of the nicest looking gear in game. They got really creative with it. So, if only for this reason alone, I'm happy it's there.

I looked at the new gear for Sharandar and it is pitiful. Only 2 pieces of it are better than what I have now and not by much at that. The other 2 pieces give no hit points at all meaning I lose somewhere around 10k hit points if I equip them. Like my HR needs to lose hit points. The bow is worthless. The 2 artifact items are ok except that just means you need a ton of RP to get them up where they need to be. Not to mention, it will take quite some time for new players to acquire the necessary items needed for the gear. I don't mind grinding for gear but not gear that isn't much better or worse than what I already have.

The lack of HP is reported as fixed in the latest preview patch notes.
The bow was an ok level 60 item when it came out, and doesn't especially need to be changed now as the primary function of it is transmutation.
The artifact items are in the store as a way to make the pre-M6 artifact gear more accessible, and you can find equivalents in other campaign stores. They've been superceded.

Ditto.
One more word: Transmute.
