A delay in processing of the number of bids an item has received is what causes this. When the auction closes, there are still bids being processed during that last minute from everyone that bid on it the moment before it closed to bidding. Server lag in processing this will cause it to do this even more noticeably. No one was actually bidding on it during that last minute. You were just seeing the bid being processed.
Can I ask how much the stacks went for?
I have a couple of stacks in storage but if the price is crazy I might be tempted to sell 'em rather than user 'em this weekend.

i m quite sure you dont have time limit for bidding in the gateway. thats why it's meaningless to follow a bidding fight in game

Yup, I have both bid and won items in the last 5 seconds of an auction. There are some issues where it will lock you out under a min but no concrete explanation has ever been given from someone that works there.

I'm pretty sure the entire reason is that the clock on your computer is not sync'd with the server clocks. You can't necessarily go by the in game clock. If you watch other Auctions, you can see when the bid button grey's out. Sync your computer clock using that as a guide. Once you are in sync you should be fine.
There other thing is about bid processing. Other people may be trying to snipe the auction too. That processing only really occurs in the last 0-7 seconds or so. I wouldn't put in the minimum bid when I try to snipe, go one or two notches higher so that even if you are behind others, your bid will win.
