Item level and transmutation costs

beckylunaticbeckylunatic Member, NW M9 Playtest Posts: 14,231 Arc User
Neverwinter has always had scaling transmutation costs based on gear levels... 100AD to change a level 1 item, and 51k+ for level 60 gear (epic shirts and pants were 53k for some reason).

A lot of players have said this was too expensive. Some have argued that it's a necessary AD sink. Others have scoffed and said it was pocket change to them anyway. Still others care not a whit for aesthetics. This thread is clearly not for them. I had pretty much settled for myself that it was fairly pricy but a function that I would use infrequently enough that I'd be able to suck up the cost.

Transmutation costs appear to be tied to the new item level functionality. I don't know if this is intentional, so I'm writing this up to draw some attention to it, either as a bug or as feedback.

From memory (sorry, my notes are elsewhere), costs on preview last night were as follows:
T1 - 113k
T2 - 134k
T3 (Draconic) - 163k
I didn't have time to obtain any new gear to price out.

Since artifact and Black Ice gear haven't been updated from their default ilvl 60 yet, they were still sitting at 51k to change appearance.

That's more than double the price to transmute a T1 set, and more than triple for more recent additions, which will include our artifact gear once those items receive their appropriate ilvls.

If it is intended that the cost to change gear appearances should just keep scaling up, this is bad. Most of us seriously aren't swimming in AD as much as the costs already forced on us to upgrade our stuff (via the GMoP) seem to indicate that the powers-that-be think we are. And while everyone is going to have their own opinion as to which gear looks best, it's pretty rare that the gear you want to equip and the gear you actually want to be seen in are one and the same.

If the continual scaling up of transmute costs is a bug, please fix (and please tell us!). If it's intended, please reconsider, as 163k to fix every item we think is powerful-but-fugly is not the way to win your players' hearts.

Interestingly, the gold cost for removing enchants does not increase above item level 60. It's still 2.5g for epics, 1.5g for rares, etc.

That's insanely expensive. It was already far too high.

I would like to see the cost of transmutation get lowered, by a lot. Maybe even use gold?

Transmute is a fun thing, players can customize their look.. shouldn't be gated behind tons of AD, per piece...

We have not updated the transmutation costs yet. No it won't cost 150k.

Will it cost more than it does at level 60, or the same amount?

Also, somewhat related, but farm more important in my opinion, will the RP value of blue and green items increase with the necessary level required to equip the item

    For example:
    - level 60 ring is 300 RP
    - Level 61 ring worth 300rp or <font color="orange">HAMSTER</font> rp? (Currently still 300rp on preview server)
    - Level 70 ring worth 300rp or <font color="orange">HAMSTER</font> rp?

    Thanks very much for that.

Fingers crossed that if you're updating transmute costs, you might ultimately consider a downward shift (I could see it being on the list of things that cost more in Neverwinter than in other games, per the AMA with heyrogers). You've built in a number of hefty AD sinks that are directly tied to making our characters stronger (GMoPs, reinforcement kits, companion active bonus upgrades), which means that people will and do use them.

I hope it costs gold instead of AD after this update - transmutation. Would put a use for gold in your economy other then removing enchantments and buying profession reagents. See it as a gold sink as well a diamond sink as people will buy "cool" looking gear for more and more ad - namely perhaps the old level 60 stuff that sometimes get used - lolth armour for example.

I'm glad transmutation wont cost 150k. But even the current prices can use a downward adjustment.

I doubt we'll see Transmutations switch from AD to gold, I am glad to see that they said the prices wern't going up with higher level gear. Surprised is actually more like it.

I fully support and pray for the lowering of the Transmute costs!

My previous thread got drowned in the sea of whining about server being down, and nobody was actually visiting this forum before the update

    http://nw-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?825901-Improving-the-transmute-system

I still say they should get rid of the free transmute items and instead change the cost to pocket change levels.

After the latest update, my artifact weapons have been buffed rather nicely, retained an ilvl of 60, and informed me that the cost to transmute one would now be the tidy sum of 239k AD.
