I played this game hot and heavy after release for about 3 months before I fizzled out.
It was pretty annoying with the duping and exploit bugs... have those been fixed or is there still a lot of that going on? Are they doing a better job stopping people from cheating?
Can any people give me opinions on how the game has improved, or gotten worse since I've been away?
I have to admit I loved the P&P Temple of Elemental Evil, and the addition of paladins on the horizon is also a factor pulling me back to the game.
I recently came back too and let me tell you....you're going to be WAAAAY behind. there's upgradeable gear that takes either a long time to upgrade or a lot of cash. You'll also have a lot of dailies to do if you want to unlock campaign boons. But yeah as far as cheating goes there's not nearly as much as when you had experienced it before.

Thanks for the response my fine fellow. Are you glad you came back? Is the game improved? More fun? What made you decide to come back?

It's bittersweet. I came back because I don't like the playstyle of my main on WoW. The combat is extremely stale. I remember loving NW's action and aiming combat style and decided to update and give it a go. Catching my characters up doesn't feel fun. Just daunting and even thinking about doing the same with my alts is entirely overwhelming. I'm dead broke and can't even get a group to farm things to sell for AD with what used to be BIS gear on my two "mains". Now I just do dailies. Lots of dailies. Someone told me doing Tiamat 30 times should be plenty for a new piece of gear. Maybe my luck just sucks, but I hardly win Tiamat due to the large amount of AFKers that go in for a free ride. You can however ask for a timer to enter tiamat with "geared" players but they usually want people around 18-22k gear score and my two characters are around 15k. All in all I hope they quit with this artifact system in the upcoming mod and find a new way to complete boons other than adding more and more dailies. Also a way to catch alts up and a system for returning players would be nice.
Some stuff is better, if you are into pvp it's worse, but it's all going to potentially be reset soon. My best advice to you at the moment would be to come back, work on boons and work on gaining ad. Do not grind out artifacts and artifact gear till we see what happens at 70 as it could be wasted, instead save all the ad you can and sell everything you can so that you are ready for mod 6.
Oh yeah, like mentioned above...I used to love PvPing in NW. Now it's full of the worst people. Rude nasty pay to winners.

Just play to have fun. Don't worry about grinding or "getting the best stuff". It'll come in time. It's the same in every MMO. If you took a break from WoW for a year and a half, you'd have a lot of catching up to do. The good thing is, despite what people are going to moan about, getting to within 95% of BiS isn't difficult, and a good player should be caught up in a month or two. The amount of time and resources it takes to get an Artifact Weapon from Epic to Legendary is absolutely immense, but the actual pay off is very small. And you don't need any of it to cruise through PvE at this point. Orange is really just epeen points.
Plus, the next module is changing the level cap to 70, so it's going to be a "soft" reset on everything, which will be good.
In the meantime, there's an absolute ton of new content in PvE, and should be more than enough to keep you occupied until then.
EDIT: Also, finding a community of players to play with makes the game a lot more fun. Most of the angry, bitter people who hate the game tend to be solo players who through themselves at the mercy of other solo players, which is why they keep getting the same results.
The difference is WoW takes returning players into consideration and doesnt make catching up a huge chore.

Ill try to put this as politely as possible, the game got worse, but it could get better, it really depends on what they do for mod 6.
Thirdly, the game is just about RP now, grinding RP is boring and that's what we have..
However, as mentioned above, it might not stay this away and many of us are hoping maybe against hope, that they have listened to recent feedback and made some improvements to the RP system going forward into mod 6.
We will wait and see, I know many of us who will bail if there isnt better avenues to grind out the gear, other then sitting around alone and killing things.

1 - That's a bit rude for people who just want to do things solo.
2 - you're using friendships and camaraderie as a crutch for poor gameplay.
Shoveling cow HAMSTER is not fun but if you have a friend there with you to joke and laugh it's a little better.
You really got hosed as far as artifact gear. What happened was they made most neutral RP that could be applied to it BoA. So while most of us could 'level our gear at 2RP-AD or less now neutral RP is selling at over 2Ad-RP or more. When we see what L70 gear is like we will find out whether or not this is a disadvantage. If L70is better than artifact you are sitting fairly well because then you are starting a new grind with the rest of us. Of course there will also be a certain ammount of rage in that Artifacts gear was most of what most of us spent this mod and the last developing.
There are things that got better. PVE wise the new content is less focussed on gobs and gobs of mobs. It tends towards fewer, toungher, more damaging mobs. Which is a pleasant change. Although not tough nor dangerous enough to be truly challenging end-game content. Tiamat is only 'challenging' in that you may land in a bad group. People complainibng about a 15K GS need to L2P. At 15K (built right) you are going to be at diminishing returns in most stats. IS it as effective as a 20K? No. Butit is in no way a ;liability if properly geared and played and fine for all current content. As to PVP. It is a general law of NeverWinter game design: Every Mod one class shalt be broken in PVP. If you missed the last 2 then it is no longer GWF. Honestly for a while there it was CWs and now they are playable but not dominant which is a nice change. For 5 it is TRs.

Ironzerg your completely wrong.. we are upset due to a forced system that makes you put all of your resources into one class..
Something THEY never did until start of this artifact equipment.
It has nothing to do with anything else, in fact, I prefer to spend my time in groups, the system in place actually rewards players who do nothing but solo farm instead.
In fact if you want to be a solo player, here is your shining chance.

Neverwinter's in a holding pattern right now so I wouldn't resume playing at this moment. Mod6 is make-or-break time for most experienced players. Look back and decide for yourself once Mod6 goes live. Silverkelt succinctly states the overall situation.
Honestly, until we know more about how raising the level cap is going to effect usefulness on existing gear. It could be a lot of wasted effort to jump in and try to gear up now.
Feel free to come back, explore the new stuff, get your feet wet again, and get a feel for things. But don't bother worrying about gear or "catching up" until we know more about how mod 6 is going to change everything, or if it will at all. If the new gear indeed will make existing stuff less useful. Your return might very well be in a perfect position to leapfrog over everyone and get on the new stuff as it rolls out. And if not, its not like waiting a bit extra is going to set you back further.
Yeah, since the game turned into mindless grid for RP I pretty much quit playing and just farm ad via leadership. I got the +stat belt (originals), with all my toons and aside from normal artifacts havn't/wont grind for the other ones. We will see what happens with mod 6. Likely new stuff will be superior and I wont have wasted time on the hamsterwheel.
Thinking of entertainment that way is just wrong imo. Do you speed read a novel because time is money, or do you get comfortable and enjoy it?

Closing this up now before it continues and we have to send warnings.
Best advice is to read up on the forums and then try it out for one's self. The only one who can make a correct opinion on whether the game is worth playing to you, is you.
