I have been asking myself the following questions and havn't been able to find any answers so far.
Hope anyone can help. Please also explain why/how it works.
1) Is it any use upgrading my Ioun Stone (currently lvl 25 blue) to Epic?
2) Is it any use leveling an Epic (non augment) companion to 30?
3) Is it any use putting enchantments or gear in my other companions, if I always have an Ioun stone summoned?
1) Yes, you get more HP and stats.
2) Yes, to play SCA and get Lightfoot Thieft companion (but for the time that you spend on SCA I don't know if it's worthy).
3) No.
Also, when you upgrade a Companion (from White to Green, from Green to Blue, from Blue to Purple) you will also get a boost to the Companions Active Bonus.
'Wen considered the nature of time and understood that the universe is, instant by instant, recreated anew. Therefore, he understood, there is in truth no past, only a memory of the past. Blink your eyes, and the world you see next did not exist when you closed them. Therefore, he said, the only appropriate state of the mind is surprise. The only appropriate state of the heart is joy. The sky you see now, you have never seen before. The perfect moment is now. Be glad of it.' Terry Pratchet The Thief Of Time

Oh, yeah, I forgot about that.

Upgrading a stone other than a green one is a waste. The small boost to natural stats is not worth 750k.
True, but I can upgrade my blue at lvl 25 to make it purple. It will have the epic Active bonus then, with 5 levels from max level of 30.
Or I can buy an epic lvl 1 with max active bonus.
Is it then still worth leveling it to 30 if I am anly using it for the bonus?
It depends on the Bonus and where you are in the Game.
They can really add up, and End Game players will use them to round out their Toons, and some of them can be interesting and unique.
I've never upgraded past Blue, myself, but I've known folks who have.
It's definatly on my list, after Legendary Artifact Gear, LvL 99 Artifacts, and all Rank 10s'.
As I have none of these things at present on any characters, it is likely to be some time (er, o.k., some DECADES )

I don't think so. The only measurable advantage to leveling the Ioun Stone of Allure from 25 to 30 is that the chance for slowing an opponent increases from 7% to 10%. Any HP/Stat increase is going to be small.
Start doing "Inspect Companion" on people you see with an Ioun Stone of Allure and you will notice that 90% of them are level 25. Why spend hundreds of thousands of AD for a 3% increased chance for slow? Not worth it to me. If you are a whale, go for it.

Rank 1:
Hit Points: 10
Power: 10
Critical Strike: 10
Recovery: 10
Active Bonus: (On Encounter Use) 7% chance to slow target.
Rank 25 (Maximum without spending AD to increase quality):
Hit Points: 250
Power: 150
Critical Strike: 150
Recovery: 150
Active Bonus: (On Encounter Use) 7% chance to slow target.
Rank 30 (Epic: 750k AD for the quality increase):
Hit Points: 300
Power: 185
Critical Strike: 185
Recovery: 185
Active Bonus: (On Encounter Use) 10% chance to slow target.

(2) It can be . . or not. Typically, the "active bonus" doesn't change across levels for many companions but for a few it does. However, the active stat bonuses do increase as you reach the different "quality" levels. Whether or not an additional increase in a certain stat is worth the AD upgrade cost is up to you. If you have a lot of AD, it might be worth it. If not, don't worry so much about it.
(3) No, not at all. It is a waste - found out the hard way after I had loaded-up several active, non-summoned companions.

Nice!
So, you have to ask yourself if +150 HP, +35 Crit, +35 Power, +35 Recovery, and +3% slow chance is worth the 900k or so AD (not sure of pricing)? To me, it seemed not to be worth it.

I've been known to use my Active Companions to store currently unused Gear (stuff I'm saving for Transmuting, for instance) or Runes/Enchants that I am not using at the moment, freeing up some Bank Space.

I've been doing pretty much the same.
Companions are nice "emergency bank slots" for certain items.

The active bonus for a companion is always effected by its rarity level. A white quality companion with an active bonus of +25 power will provide +300 power at purple quality. The actual level of the companion is not a factor to the power of the active bonus. (I do not remember if you must get a companion to it's current max level before spending the money on an upgrade). A level 1 purple companion will offer the same active bonus as a lvl 30 companion.
(Note that I am speaking ONLY of the active bonus, not stat boosts from a augment or combat capacity from other companions)
If the companion offers an active bonus that is not +stat then that bonus will also be increased by upgrading the rarity. My personal favorite companion is the Wild Hunt Rider, and it is definately worth upgrading to purple if/when you have the resources to do so. It goes from a 2% chance to increase your damage by 10% for 5 seconds up to 5% chance to increase your damage. I find that highly effective.

1) Inly if you like the extra slow. Not so much for me except for my Thaum CW. The slow chance is nice.
2) That all depends on. Example, I have an account wide Ioun Stone of Radiance (Green). For all characters I upgrade it to blue to unlock the last gear slot. It gives Deflection and Lifesteal, I don't use Deflection on most of my characters except for HRs and TRs. For them upgrade to purple is worth for the extra stats that they do use.
Another example is that my current Main character (a Trapper HR), I have 7 purple companions. The reason being is that I like to switch between them as a Summoned companion. Sometimes it's for specific situations, oherwise it's at a whim.
And for other reason is to be able to do the Tier 5/6 dungeons in Sword Coast Adventures. I like doing it because I like Dungeon Dice when TSR (now Wizards) put out the product.

You get 3% more of *base* stats, which is completely pointless. So, don't do it.

It must be fully levelled first, then the option to upgrade shows up where the option to train was before.
