I gained a new level 60 character and when I started doing pvp I realized that there are problems with the team matching system. It does not seem to take into account the gs, one team had all members below 10,000 and the other team all above 15,000. There is no problem when you have a respectable gs but when you start out, you get slaughtered most of the time. Has anyone else had this problem?
yeah its suxs pvping against people who have played longer and have have better gear its easy to fix this system just match people with people around there GS thats all i ask and im sure others who pvp will agree
There are no problems with the matching system. Here's the 1o1:
First, matchmaking does take GS into account as well as your PvP history (win/loss ratio). It's part of your total "threat" value so to speak.
Matchmaking is based on supply and demand. If there's not enough people around that are close to your threat value, it takes other people who are also waiting for a match. Those people can have both a higher and a lower rating, depending on what's available. So, to quote a famous band, sometimes you're the windshield, sometimes you're the bug. And sometimes you get a fairly even match.
We can turn this thread into a discussion about the validity of such a system in this game, but fact remains, the current system works as intended.

There are no problems. It works, and it works as it should. There are only things some people don't agree with.
Nobody here can name a single "problem" that's caused by the system. They are all player issues, the biggest of which are:
- No decently sized PvP community. Let's leave the reason why that is alone for now.
- The PvP community is divided in 2 groups: those that like to PvP for fun and those that go all out. 1 group is significantly bigger than the other, while the other wants to play more matches than the former.
- People kicking others out of fear of losing their spot on the leaderboard.
Nothing of this can be blamed on the matchmaking system. It's as fair as it can be, without people having to wait for hours to get a match.
So, we just faced a premade of 20k+ GS team, while my pug group had around 15k. Did matchmaking you describe went on a vecation, and why didnt we get a memo about it ? Two of those players where on page 1, while myself around page 200 or so since I didnt play pvp lately ... so yeh ...matchmaking at its finest and that is just a case from today, there are plenty more from where that came from

The current matchmaking is a performance matchmaking. This is not a Gearscore matchmaking. Look, the point is people dont want to face a 20k GS nab (who happens to end up because of his stupidity to have a low performance), the point is to face people in the same gearscore bracket.
It's as fair as it can be, without people having to wait for hours to get a match.
I doubt that, because there is a distribution on the number of players with a certain GS. And honestly I am willing to wait longer for a match for the tradeoff that I am in a match in which mainly skill matters. We never had a GS matchmaking, not even as the leaderboard was introduced. Just because we had long queue times at the beginning this doesnt mean that a GS matchmaking cant have reasonable waiting times. Besides this, you can always go down with your GS with no effort in case waiting times in a high GS bracket are getting to long.
With a GS matchmaking or a league system you can also have better leaderboards. I'd vote for several (custom?) leagues, modes and leaderboards, especially a mode in which premades are not allowed. The current matchmaking is not good.
Suggestions to improve NW:
- Dualspec
- Better rewarding foundry and foundry pvp maps
- Custom PvP leagues with leaderboards instead of the current 'matchmaking'.
- Armory
- make jumping cost stamina (to reduce hopping in pvp)
The team MUST be done according to GS.
No skill at 10k gs - simply not because person is too new in the game. And if we suppose there is skill, a 19-20k gs will just sit and hit while the skilled will jump around him.
The 10k gs gets always killed by 20k gs. Do the math.
I crit for 7-8k a 15k gs - imagine the poor 10k gs - sometime one hit is enough.
And by any means, do NOT underestimate a 20k gs - they are way too long in this to afford that gear and way too long in pvp to kill a very skilled 10k gs !
P.S. ofc there is a problem - I can take off my clothes and join - this is not my problem, this is the programers problem (they must have records with my GS during the match not during my siting in enclave)

Pvp matchmaking totally sucks at 60. You're instantly geared against 15-20k gs. This game doesn't take into account gs, and if it does, it's broken. Here's my thought, create a second pvp bracket for 15k-20k. When you queue for either bracket, it locks in the gear that you had on when you queued, whether you unequip it or not when you load the match your gear is locked into what you queued with.
3. Why don't you calculate for Gear Score when doing matchmaking?
We looked into it, but the data we have shows that Gear Score isn't a valid metric for matchmaking in our PvP. We have kept track of the average Gear Score of players at various matchmaking tiers and it turns out the difference between the top 10% players and the players in the 50th percentile is less than 2%. Also interestingly, the players with the highest numerical Gear Scores tend to fall close to the middle of the rankings. We have discussed doing some kind of adjustment for a player with no matchmaking history based on their Gear Score, but it would no longer matter after the first handful of matches that were played.
This would support one of two conculsions, and could equally support both:
1) There isn't a significant pool of PvP players to draw from
or
2) The gap between top tier and casual isn't large enough to draw a fair pool from were GS to be a factor in matchmaking
Which very well could be the case. You have two tiers of PvP players:
a) Those whose entire game experience is PvP (hardcore). These guys eat, breathe, HAMSTER, and sleep PvP. They may even have explicit dreams about PvPing. They're the ones that min/max everything to the Nine Hells and back and compare every build, power, and angle for even the slightest possible mathematical advantage over another player. These guys are going to have epic, top-tier PvP gear and high rank enchants.
b) Those who play PvP for fun/dailies/what have you (casuals). These are the team tryout kind of guys...the ones who have either just hit 60 and are doing PvP for the daily or to farm glory to get better PvP gear to get competitive. Likely they don't have a bunch of alts that can provide them with AD to get good gear from the AH straight into 60. There's the occasional one or two that just...simply doesn't have an idea how to gear, for lack of a better way of saying it.
Now, consider that this really isn't a PvP-centric game. Therefore, you're going to have a small percentage of hardcore PvP players and the vast majority are going to be casuals. Most hardcore PvPers, too, are going to queue as premades rather than individually.
And try to get one balanced team from that, let alone two teams equally balanced against each other...
It's like getting a draft pool for which you have two pro-level players and a bunch of Pop Warner-caliber players to choose from.

Actually that response is kinda embarrassing by the devs, because it shows just how little they know about the leaderboards functionality even tho they are the ones who made it probably. Or maybe not? What do we know anyway.
If you average about 20 matches per day. You get a good sense of how it works anyway. And im sure there are no devs in this game that does this, certainly not a dev that would come up with that response.

Well, NWO doesn't have any kind of decently sized community on PvE nor PvP, this game have few people, but saying Hours... you are exageratinga little , but anyway:
1- Today I had 2 roflstomp on PvP, my team won like 1000-100 and I queued in 1-2 minutes, so there you have a thing that could work better than now, making the matchamking system (no matter how many people is queueing) to wait for at least 3 min after you queued to put you on a match (more ppl on the queue, better match).

One - You have no idea how many people are casuals and how many are hardcore, who wants to actually play PvP and who is just doing the daily.
Two - Just because there is only a portion of the players wanting to "PvP hardcore" does not mean that you ignore them and just shove them in with casuals. PvE hardcore grinders do NOT grind with people with say 16k GS or less, and they have a system that allows them to PvE in the way they choose, there is no such system for PvP. In PvP even if you do premade as a hardcore you can end up vs. a bunch of "casuals" with 13-15k GS while you have 22K GS.
Three - Under the system in place, the only place for someone that didn't want to "PvP hardcore" would be doing a solo que. This means that friends cannot play together unless they are feeling lucky and avoid a bloodbath.

How about this, to anyone that thinks GS means nothing or is not significant enough to factor in, this includes the dev who made the post, try the following.
1 - Get a group of 10 people total, yourself and 9 others, of somewhat equal skill.
2 - Outfit one team of 5 with 20K worth of GS, and the other team with 10K worth of GS.
3 - Have 5 matches with each other, the 5 20K on team 1 and the 5 10K on team 2, and tell us who won and who lost.
4 - With the same people, swap GS now. The 20K now get gear only worth 10K GS and vice versa.
5 - Fight 5 more matches and record who won and who lost.
After all that post the results, or a video.
P.S If GS did not factor in, then we would be fighting naked, I don't see that happening in PvP right now.

Team balance would be a lot easier without 5 man premades.
2 man premade limit would have the effect of spreading out these BiS teams.
A lot easier to find a balanced team when one isn't a premade 19+K gs 5 man premade.
While there is no functional issue with the pvp match up system, I think it's flawed by design. And it can't be perfect. That's just not happening cos it can't be done. Sure it could be done to benefit someones personal desires but for the community as a whole you won't find better solution and if you do, please share with devs...
People are complaining about getting to team up with pre-made 20k+ groups. Well now, those players either farmed their arses off or buy some AD to get their artifacts to maximum. Either way they deserve the edge or why else would they do it? You should be glad that there are people that are willing to pay for the game or else there would be no game to play at all. So if you don't pay or you don't farm hard enough, just chew over few "unjust" loses in battlegrounds. Win some, lose some... GS is the most important part of every MMORPG, every such a game is made about GS and build, you farm to get higher GS, that's the point of the game. You just need to find out which stats, skills, feats and armor set is best for your playstyle. An I can say it's gonna cost you plenty of AD to find what you need cos you can't just dwell on what you read on forums cos power of skills can be changed any given moment with update and what was good build month ago can be pretty crappy nowadays

Not unfrequently my PUG gets paired against a 20k+ team. Not an average 20+. ALL the five red guys are 20k+ with five legendaries.
