I finally obtained my HR's final piece of T2 gear last night. I had some lowbie gear stashed away to transmute it because I prefer simpler silhouettes. It happens I also like the coloration of said lowbie gear, but because Neverwinter preserves dyes through transmuting (which is usually a *good* thing), I'd have had to buy some Zen store dye remover to get rid of the persistent sickly salmon shade and keep the exact appearance I expected. I used some event dye that I already had instead, which incidentally showed up as "custom" dye when applied over the "dungeon dye" even though it was an unmodified dyepack application. Maybe you can only ever dye an item once and have the description reflect the dyepack used, so this too gets broken by the pre-dyed gear?
Thus far, I have seen one CW sporting an item in "adventuring dyepack" that had a yellow base and was different and cute. Most of the pre-dyed gear I've seen is in some shade of icky washed-out pink, and not really flattering on anyone. Some of the dyed weapons are nice though, bronze with teal accents and stuff, which just makes us seethe more about not being able to custom dye weapons in colours we've actually chosen.
While this was presented as a positive change, and that "some" items would come pre-dyed, it seems that all levelling quest rewards and all dungeon loot, boss drops and chests alike, have been given the treatment, and the selected scheme leaves the player decked out like grandma's sofa.
If you don't want the conspiracy-minded making snide comments about, "it's to force you to spend money on dye" (which is a bit silly considering how much dye most of us already own), maybe at least pick some nicer colours? But on the whole, it seems to be a silly alteration that has not been to the good, and it's actually a hindrance to customization when you run into a situation as I described above. I don't think anyone would miss it if this change were reverted to all gear coming in the class default colours.
Was the lowbie gear a default color scheme? Just wondering if using Alchemy made dye would fix the situation?
No, unfortunately it was a number of (pre-Mod 4) quest reward items that had unique skins in a deep blue scheme (not quite a match for CW blue though).
The transmute UI should have a "Copy Dyes?" option.
Agreed - the options should be "Keep source coloration" or "Keep destination color scheme" when transmuting an item.

I suppose this was done to encourage people to buy bottles of dye remover from the zen store. The Hunter Ranger's PvE tier 2 sets have a really cool and unique color scheme that is different from the default hunter ranger dye pack. Right now, the only way to get back the unique color scheme is to use dye remover, which sucks.

I did a solo run of heroic Grey Wolf Den last week just because.
I got one of those Swords of the Shadow Wolf, you know the one with the blade that was meant to look like serrated bone? This was a fairly popular transmute skin, once upon a time.
In the dungeon dyepack scheme, that blade? Turquoise. Absolutely ridiculous looking.
And... AND... since you can't actually dye weapons, ergo cannot use dye remover on them either... useless as a skin.
*grumble* The default manky peach colour of the Accursed Diabolist set is even worse than the "Satanic Golfer" model. Thank goodness for fashion garments!

Sort of relates but they should just reinstate the /GenAddWindow Dye_Root Window with a bind command and let us use it again. Made weapon dying so much fun. I used to buy dyes just so I could change my offhand weapon.

Taking a break from Neverwinter indefinitely...

Good going.

On the left, no dye from before Mod 4.
On the right, Tyranny of Dungeon Dye Packs.
