So, yeah...

Log in after the patch today and PE is not filled with spambots anymore. People were saying that all the spambots were over level 15 and the new patch wouldn't fix anything, but I havent seen any spam at all.

Nice.

Thanks, Cryptic -- good job. (should have listened to us a year ago about chat restrictions, but better late than never, right?)

I just got whisper-spammed by a level 15 spambot. It might slow them down a bit, but by far, it's not solved.

They'll be back by this evening. It won't last. It's just a tiny bit harder on them, which is a good thing, but it won't fix anything.

I'm not going to see that as I am anonomyzed on the social tab.

You know about doing that, right? Check the settings button in your social window, and you'll never see that again.

I'm willing to go out on a limb and say it's going to fix it a lot better than you may think. Nothing's perfect, but this is going to be a million times better than it used to be. Wait and see. :)

The problem with this is that it makes it harder for me to party with people. Which means I am constantly having to switch back and forth, or I have to add people to my friends list who aren't really my friends just so they can invite me to parties. Also, I checked, and the guy WAS level 15. Which means he could've been spamming Zone and Trade, though he chose to whisper.

Just because you can make yourself anonymous and get less spam doesn't mean that there aren't a ton of spammers out there.

When Auction House was made to require a lvl60 char on account to bypass the limits, gold sellers were offering to buy accounts with lvl60 chars.
The problem is that some people are just too willing to do that for them, causing everyone else problems

Small moves. If it slows them down, then it slows them down, so it's good. I just don't understand what prevents them from spamming LFG channel, or did they block it too?

I think it was just Zone and Trade that got the restrictions. I would expect the spammers to set up in PE around mailboxes and spam "Says" as their next move. We'll see.

    Not sure if serious.

Since the patch I've gotten like 20-30 PMs from spammers. This is far worse IMHO, cuz if I'm in PE and the /zone & /lfg is getting spammed then 'mkay, but if I'm killing the old granny valindra and start getting pink msgs with "1M=$8 COME BUY NAO PLS KTHX BAI" all the time it annoys me.

Maybe the spam is dead but I don't think taking down the Server was the best way to do this.....

Dude, change your social settings. There's a button on the social window to fix those PMs. :)

If you want the spam to go away, why not just do the obvious ... turn off zone/trade chats. I rarely have this enabled, as 90% of the chat is dribble.

no spam is still here in mail ,private whispers and they've done something that prevents you from ignore blocking them when they mail you the adds.

ya if you change that setting to where spam don't get in then you cant be invited to groups or anything that involves talking or interacting with players not on your friend list not a good option

also, this ^^ Very first thing I do upon starting any new MMO is turn off zone chat. There is nothing you're going to miss. I
    promise.

Pff. It shouldn't be nessesary for players to go through lengths to keep that <font color="orange">HAMSTER</font> away. That's Cryptic's job, not ours. The whole person search page should be disabled from view/usage. Problem solved, no harm done to anyone.
Nobody uses it and it only gives spammers free reign to spam from the starting zone. A completely pointless "feature" of the game. But it won't happen. Heaven forbid players are entitled to some privacy. You only get that when you break the ToS.

    LOL @ TOS swipe

But seriously, magenubs is right about that person search page. I wouldn't miss it at all if it decided to get up and walk away forever. It makes a very effective tool for spammers to PM you, so I guess if we howl loud enough, it may be only a year or so from now when they decide to do away with the cursed thing.

    Until then... preferences settings.

Ummm.. because 15 is probably good enough? Or, were you making an argument out of absurdity? :)

The spammers will also sit near an entrance and get your id's as you pass and then spam you from a bot. Perhaps its a good thing to have a feature that allows you to only have pms from friends if you want and it will be easy to code cryptic.
This may cost a bit but an employee who can sit and who's job it is to watch chat and ban ban ban as soon as a spammer appears as coding to do this job would be very complex given the ways you can write stuff to counter it.
I for one don't think cryptic will beat them unless they take the fight to the spammers website as people will always find ways around defences.
Well I hope they find a solution..

Great step I think they should honestly bump it up to level 30 as for most people that is a couple days playing and not a huge deal but for the gold sellers this would be kick in the junk to play 2 days for a blast of 3 messages then ban and redo. Good stuff

well, if thye just used my suggestion about making leveling slower the cap wouldn't have to be at 15.

Closing this down as it just opens the door to discuss bad behavior, which isn't allowed.
