Lockbox Salvancy

lordrelentlesslordrelentless Member, Neverwinter Beta Users Posts: 33
I've been playing for sometime now, (I started all the way back in Beta) and while I love Neverwinter I have one big complaint.

Ever since lock box keys have become bound to character the rate of rare drops isn't sufficient enough to maintain lockbox salvancy. I see no gain in opening lockboxes if I must spend real world money to purchase lockbox keys. To me, without an in game ability to buy and sell keys, the rate of drops for the more rare items should have increased to compensate. Over the last month I've easily spent $100 on zen to purchase keys and I've gotten nothing but junk from the lockboxes. Nothing but junk. I opened over 200 boxes and not a single purple drop.

So I have to ask is anyone else experiencing this same problem and having this same concern?

pls the AH ZEN exchange is still there you just have to wait some days or paying real money.
moreover the drops from lockboxes had seen their prices skyrocked so no much to complain about.

Use the ZAX and help petition for all cash shop options to be bta so that people stop bypassing the ZaX to buy ad and the system works.

No I don't think they allow true petitions but hopefully by putting the idea out there and building support the dev's will take notice and hopefully a change will be made.

no this is the worst idea ever if i spend hard earned money on a game who are you to tell me i cant sell the items i have purchased.
forcing everyone to use the ZAX is not the answer and yes i have contributed to the 5 million backlog by dumping Zen into it for players but if i want to purchase a companion to sell to others on the AH why shouldnt i be able to. the second we make it BOA is when the bot/farmers have won thus making it a pay 2 win game not everyone has the AD resources to hit some of those higher priced items.

i cant understand what the problem is.... if you dont have the resourced to buy it at 500:1 from the zax you sure dont have the resources to buy it from AH where is surely overpriced.

make all the items BOA and you will see that 6M backlog dropping down to 500K.
People abuse the zax to become richer: i actually have 5M in zen request...for what ? dunno just for the sake of buying to resell it.

If you think you can afford the AH but not the ZAX you are bad at math. The ZAX is capped at 500 AD per 1 Zen. People are putting up items from the cash shop at above 500 AD per one Zen so that you pay more for getting it from the AH. If you are complaining you can't do this. You are part of the problem, breaking the system, and the one causing all the problems you list of making it p2w because the ZAX is broken by people bypassing it.

Working as intended. I don't think PWE intended you to make money opening lockboxes.

Nor is this thread about making money for selling virtual items, which is dumb. Look, the zen store is there so that PWE can make the money needed to keep their games going. The external resellers are damaging that market, but we wouldn't need external resellers if the in-game market place wasn't so inflated. Nonetheless, now that the enchanted keys for the lockboxes are no longer capable of being sold or purchased in-game (and let's face it they were extremely overpriced in game anyways) the lockboxes need to have a change in their variability to proffer up rare items more readily otherwise there is no point in attempting to buy enchanted keys.

Let's put it this way, before when you could buy enchanted keys in game on the market, you could save up and buy the keys you wanted without having to spend real money. Thus, being a purely game side process, lockbox rarity in drops made sense, but now that you can't and you have to spend real money (via the Zen store) one would expect more for the money they're spending, especially for virtual items that have no real world value.

Right now, in my opinion, the lockboxes and the zen store are going to lose salvancy and ultimately damage the game, and the developer-player relationship.

You really don't understand game mechanics do you. YOU CAN BUY AS MANY KEYS AS YOU WANT FOR AD STILL AND IT WILL COST YOU LESS AD. You have to use the Zen Exchange, it's backlogged right now but binding keys is a first step in fixing that.

This, makes no sense, you just described a very big complaint. Prices are out of control in game rare items that aren't really all that great in stats are costing millions if not hundreds of millions of zen. That is ridiculous. Moreover you don't get a whole lot of astral diamonds per zen (400 on average). To get the amount of zen to buy some of the items I want or need on the trade/exchange I'd have to spend hundreds of dollars. ($20 of zen ~2000 zen~ is only around 800,000 AD).

The entire market is almost a waste of energy. Much like Gauntlgrym (sp) is a bloody waste of time and energy. Or how the PVP in Icewind Dale is a waste of energy and time, and gold. If I wanted to play against other people in PVP I'd do the PVP queue and the arena stuff. I don't want to bother with it, yet I'm forced into it just to complete basic missions.

The people doing the designing of this game are failing to grasp very important aspects about their players. Players go to free to play so they don't have to spend money. People play these games for a plethora of reasons, and some of us don't want to do PVP. I for one am one of those people.

Nevertheless I digress to the original point. The game has a broken exchange, bad drop rate for the good things in lockboxes, and a broken currency system that is overly complex and unnecessarily painful to use.

And you really don't grasp end player dynamics. I'm not complaining about the binding of the keys, I'm complaining that they didn't fix the lockbox drop rate for the better gear to reflect the fact that to get keys you have to buy them with real world money now. If I'm going to invest in to buying keys to open the lockboxes with real world money then I expect to have a better chance of actually getting things like the Tenser's Floating disk.

And do me a favor, next time you reply to me don't do it with the condescending attitude. You don't know who you're talking to, you don't know what I know, and for all you know you might just be talking to a game designer, a beta tester, and a person who has been playing video games (mmos included) for a very very long time. I know game mechanics and game design better than most, and I know that when players spend a 100 bucks over a month's period on lockbox keys and see nothing but junk come out of them, opening several hundred lockboxes, there is something wrong with the drop rate.

this is completely 100% false. You do not have to pay one cent for anything in this game. I bought a couple keys tonight and i didn't spend a dime. I used the zax after my ad processed.

. . . One does not need to spend real money on anything to play this game. Everything in the Zen Shop can be purchased with Astral Diamonds earned through normal game play by exchanging it on the Astral Diamond Exchange.

. . . I'm closing this now as it is a back and forth argument, one where the argument is that you have to spend real money to buy keys and open locked boxed. This is completely and utterly false. One does not need to spend real money on anything in the game to play the game's content.

. . . There are only a few optional promotions (Charge Rewards) that does require real money to gain, but these items are completely optional to the game experience. The bottom line here is that anything in the Zen Store can be bought without spending any real money at all. It is called the Astral Diamond Exchange.

. . . If anyone needs aid understaning the ZAX system, please see this wonderful guide, penned by a Developer himself! --> Neverwinter Astral Diamonds Guide <--
