It took 147 tries before I got my first pair of gauntlets. 147!!! I figured about 50 and I would have 2 pairs seeing how easily everyone else gets them. I was surely mistaken. Still no main hand or second pair of gauntlets. Most glaring case that something is broken; I was was doing ill gotten gains that I started solo while a CW friend was still porting in from another instance. So, as the fight went on I practically solo half of the instance my self before others started showing up. The last boss spawns and my cw friend literally shows ups throws 1 ice knife as the boss is about dead and gets his gloves and 180 ice. Meanwhile me, who worked his behind off chugging pots, fighters recovery to stay alive the first half of the fight gets 75 ice and a rank 5 enchant? Really? All of that for basically nothing? Something is wrong if it only takes 1 attack to get them... I haven't even been actively trying for the main-hand much yet. Guess I know what to look forward to...
First pair of gauntlets is really a hillarious case:i went to do iwp icewind pass daily pvp mission.Got bored...queued or pvp.After i finished i saw Remorhaz event is up!!!I run to remorhaz ,yet still flagged for pvp.As i reached there 2 CWs started attacking me in order to kill me and increase their chances of loot.I got killed.I got very angry and i said "well no gauntlets for me but i will stalk this cw when he enters pvp i will kill him".Went to remorhaz again.Standed in red with steel defence.Event finishes.....and i win my gauntlets!!!
Second pair from gauntlets from disrupt bear training in icewind pass.I did a lot of damage and also was standing in red with Villan's Menace and steel defence.
From this event i also won a dwarven HR armor piece.Can't remember the name of the armor.Sold it for 60k
My main i got it from beholder.My rotation was Lunging Strike,Griffon's Wrath,Anvil of Doom.And always kept my daily ready,not wasting it.when i saw the big red frontal attack of beholder i used Villain's Menace and stood in red with out blocking.It is risky though one time i got killed.

This is the same as what I constantly experience. I have spec'd for tankiness and have spec'd for dps and have tried out different methods to no avail. I have received 2 purple weapons so far but not our GF main hand. WTF?? Fix this s.h.i.t already.

I often hear fellow GF say something along the line of: "I got 180 raw black ice, and therefore scored in the top tier of the heroic enounter, and yet I once again didn't get a purple". The fact that you got the highest possible amount of raw black ice in the HE might not mean that you scored in the top tier. Maybe there are two or more tiers that reward the player with 180 raw black ice. I don't think that we as players can know this.
My 2nd point could help you to raise your chances on getting your black ice gauntlets a bit: Try to log in just after the server has restarted (thursday is patch-day). Just after the server has started, there are not that many players logged in, which means that you can do the "Corrupted Wolf Pack" HE very likely undisturbed, and thus have a higher chance to score in the top tier of the reward table. I did exactly that last thursday, soloed that specific HE for the most part, and got again BI gauntlets.
Btw, if you write here about how many HE you completed, please state wether you are talking about EPIC, MAJOR or MINOR heroic encounters. (you can get the numbers from your achievement list by pressing 'j'). There is a big difference here. Also please mention what specific HE you did. (I really recommend the "corruped wolf pack" in icewind pass.)

Yeah, our dps is a problem here, and that is why I offered a solution to this problem in the first post of this thread based on my experience of doing heroic encounters. This solution is just from my experience, I might have been lucky, but I put quite some time in testing and running many HEs.
Did you try to do the "Corrupted Wolf Pack" encounter the way I specifically described it in the first post of this thread?
(Edit: sry, I just realized that you talked about the Main Hand. if you just mean the black ice longsword and not the black ice gauntlets, then please ignore my hastily written post)
The epic drops are completely random.
On my GWF main I did very few heroic encounters before the "slight reduction in droprate" patch and got mainhand first try stumbling across an almost dead Beholder, gloves about third try from Remo.
Now I´m trying to get the symbol for a dc with no luck on Beholder after a good 20 runs, but 7 gloves now from almost every other Prospector´s / Remo.
Still confused, why PWI had to patch the drop rate in the first place, farming HE´s isn´t really my first choice when it comes to farming black ice... so I guess, as usual, it was to screw their playerbase over.

I wrote a guide when IWD came out but I have no idea where it went or what post it was under but since some GFs are still having problems with it here goes:
1. pay attention to the mission. In Remorhaz when Rem is not up it usually says 'mine the black ice' do that.
2. Ressurections count toward success pick people up.
3. Slot all your best single-target and use villians menace. You won't be best DPs but it helps. Really you are going to want a combination of dealing damage, taking damage, rez and completing tasks.
Source: I have both IWD sets and actually had 2 gauntlets before I finished the campaign.

Second if you dig back in the forums to the early Mod3 posts about IWD I had the first data on the gear and updated the data as fast as the Cryomancers could produce them. So you could consider me something of an authority on the subject. But if you simply do not want my advice: don't take it.

Just gonna park the GF an play something else.
Drop rate got changed to non-existant in my eyes.
