Black Ice Armor upgrades -- Am I missing something?

I've gotten two of the vendor sold black ice armor pieces (chest and blades for my HR). I just unlocked level 2 of the forge and I thought I was going to be able to upgrade that armor to purified or corrupted? When I look at the black ice shaping profession window, I show I am missing the chest and blade component to craft those items, although the stats of the mising items are identical to the items I have equipped. Am I completely misunderstanding how this works?

As I am sitting there thinking about it, would it matter that I have enchants in those pieces? I know it's probably sad that I am wearing them but I am a new player and went to IWD as soon as I got my 3rd boon in Shandara. ;)

When you first upgrade it it's in Tier 2 stage, then when you get it you can right click it to refine the gear, and a new window will pop up with sliders for upgrading it up to T3

Also at Rank 2 you can only make lesser enchants and the utility slot gear, (Helm, Gloves, Boots)

At Rank 3 you can make greater enchants and the rest of the gear, (Body, Weapons, Offhands)

I am pretty sure you need to unequip them.

If this is the case, I am going to feel like a real idiot when I get home tonight. Thanks for the tip. :)

Yes it's true. Only items in your inventory are searched for possible use in Professions. There were too many instances of 'Hey Graal, where's your armor?' in Beta. =(

Remember to pop your enchantments out before you start crafting too or you'll lose them.

I was amused by how frequently I would end up not wearing any pants without noticing.

Indeed I needed to unequip them before they showed in the crafting window. And yes, I realized those were both level 3 crafting and not level 2 as well. So "fail" pretty much all the way around. Now I've bought the boots and I'm saving up on ice to refine.

    Thanks for the help!
