In my opinion the classes should not get nerfed because of PvP due to the fact it is affecting PvE. Therefore I suggest making a shard strictly for PvP but I would like your thoughts on the subject. Please do not flame the thread as I feel it is an honest issue.
PvE is quite easy as it is, I don't think a little bit of nerf on characters will hurt.
Also, there are people who can't afford, money and/or time-wise, to raise a second account to do PvP and PvE.
These are very good questions and cilginordek makes a good point. Could it be possible to transfer characters to the desired area? shadw2012 would it be better to have a buff-like ability between PvE and PvP? Say if I was to enter into PvP then certain powers would be weaker than if I was in PvE? Like I said, I simply wish thoughts on the subject
They don't need their own shard , Cryptic should just copy Guild wars and have a version of skills, feats, boons etc for pve and one for pvp , add 2 loadouts so you can easily switch between your pvp build and pve build and you are good to go , trying to balance the game while it has one set of skills that have the same effect in both pvp and pve will always be next to impossible because skills effect npc's and players in completely different ways.

That is actually a good idea. I believe it is something that should be looked into. Thank you for the thoughts!
I do not play GW, but if it works for them then it could possibly work for NW.
No.. just no. Tired of you PVE hipsters trying to change things.
Well, oddly, in the forgotten realms and D&D, there is no PVP - it was added to this game by PWE for whatever reason - so the problem is the pvp hipsters actually - and one person was actually looking for a solution that could work for everyone. So no need to be snide - although that is a pvp player trademark, i realise.
With either a 2 shard set-up, or simply make pvp a separate zone - like the dread ring is a separate zone - you could have skill and feat settings for pvp and pve separately, which would hopefully stop pvp players from wanting characters nerfed everytime they find one that beats them.

Didn't read. Probably the same repetitive and predictable thing about D&D.
You don't see PVPers crying about PVErs. But it's always the other way around, always. We do your campaigns, boons, etc etc without being able to skip them since it's a major part of the game. But you PVers can obviously skip the PVP campaign without any consequences, but you don't see us complaining despite disliking PVE. And now you PVErs want to serapate the two and constantly moan about PVP. just lol...
- the skills, as it was described a bove. One version for PvE, one for PvP.
- or the shards. PvP needs to be consensual. Like se.... ahem. I don't want PvE people in my games getting crushed and then coming to complain. One shard where everything you need can be obtained through PvP only would be awesome. No more lengthy PvE boon campaigns and farming HEs if you don't want to.

I was not moaning or complaining. I am simply trying to find a compromise between the two. iamannoyingdevi had a good idea for Cryptic. That way there is a chance for hybrid mixes (those that like to do PvE and PvP). I am not trying to discredit any one playing style, but to find a way to put our heads together for a solution. PvPers do not like the OP classes and the PvEers do not like getting nerfed. I am a PvEer, but there was no way for anyone to know that from my first post. Please do not jump to conclusions and keep the flames away from the thread. It is not fire resistant :P

Making the assumption that this post was spurred by the latest class changes that have been brought test, I would like to point out that nearly ALL of the changes made were PvE focused. I would also like to point out that MANY of these changes affect PvP negatively.
You have it backward sir. Do you see the pvpers trying to get the the server split? NO!! Why?! Because that would be ABSURD!
Changes needed to be made to balance PvE the PvPers are trying to work with the devs via feedback to find a solution that works for both schools.
It does not have to be a PvE or PvP thing... a balance between the two is VERY possible, there just needs to be constructive, fact, and experience based feedback from both camps for the Devs to work with.

Apologies, but the constant people rambling about D&D annoys me to no end. I guess you are one of those who want "Harmony" between the two. I swear some posts indicate that they want PVP completely removed from this game.
Hopefully there will be a solution to this. Once again sorry if my post(s) came out rude it wasn't my intention. But you have to understand. The PVE people are CONSTANTLY bitter about the PVP ones. While the PVP ones just.... play PVP without giving a single ****.

Another funny bit is how the 'extremists' from both end just assume that PvP and PvE players are a totally seperate group. Unfortunately, I have never found that to be true in any game.
Sure, I enjoy PvE with my friends as well, just as much as I enjoy PvP. If I must choose, then at heart I am predominantly a PvP player because the thrill and excitement of competing against a real, live individual with intelligent reactions are way bettern than program-patterned, AI controlled NPCs -- but that don't mean I don't enjoy a fun dungeon-crawling or story-driven scripted PvE sessions with others as well.
Like pandora mentioned, most PvP players don't really have any set opinion about PvE players, and many of them enjoy PvE just as much, as I do. The thing is PvE players for some reason constantly gripe and shi* about PvP, even when they aren't bothered in any way by PvP since none of the game content in NW actually overlaps except for a small part of Ice Wind Dale.
This is usually due to the mistaken and short-sighted notion that certain changes or nerfs/buffs are influenced by PvP players, and if it were not for the apparent "balance issues of PvP" nothing would/should/could be changed of their favroite classes/characters. They attribute a faulty design or overlook from the developers, and then blame it and dump it all on PvP players because frankly, since PvP constantly contests different classes with each other, the PvP players usually have a much better sense and scope of overall balance and harmony between different classes and abilities.
But I've said this before, and I say it again; "What's wrong in PvP is also wrong in PvE". Just because the mobs don't complain in the forums vocally, doesn't mean everything's OK in PvE. if something is way too powerful or efficient in PvP, in all likelihood the same holds true for PvE -- except the 'victims' being A.I., none of them tend to point it out LOL.
Stop making excuses. Be a man. If you know something to be broken, stop using it. Otherwise, you've got no right to be speaking of 'balance.'

Not at all, though reading about the comments on both sides (nerfs vs OP) I wanted to get some feedback from both sides without the flaming. Both sides have good points and so I see a possibility of coming up with a compromise. Honestly I see whining from both sides and I see frustrations mounting. Am I upset about some of the nerfs? Yes. Do I blame PvPers? No. There is an old saying that you can please some people some of the time, but not all of the people all of the time. Even if we do find a peaceful balance there is bound to be someone somewhere wanting to complain. I suggested this poll to see the stance on what I have read about in many of the threads, but they all ended in flames with the contents completely out of context. I do not wish to have PvP completely removed from the game as I know many people enjoy it (and yes D&D does have PvP if the DM permits so I cannot see a valid argument there). I would not like it if PvE was completely removed. Golden Rule. People enjoy what they enjoy and the devs do listen. Most the complaints, concerns, or worries we feel they have ignored are being worked on. I do appreciate all the feedback and hope the devs notice this forum. Neverwinter is still young, it is still in its crawling stage and before we know it it shall be running marathons around the rest. It is our job as players to find possible solutions and compromises to help make our gaming experiences better.
trying to implement a change like this would be a major undertaking and would likely have to be planned from the beginning. fact is, no matter what changes are made by the dev team, there will always be complaints. some things are deal breakers and some things aren't. but i seriously doubt that a separation of pve and pvp can happen for a variety of reasons.
You don't see PVPers crying about PVErs. But it's always the other way around, always. We do your campaigns, boons, etc etc without being able to skip them since it's a major part of the game. LOL, cause every MMORPG have quests, campaigns and stuff, why you speak like they don't have such things?, it would be like playing a FPS and complaining because you have to use a weapon, just lol.
Next time I will play a race game and I will complaing about Why the hell I have to use a Car!!!.
Heeeeell no.
But i could see a different damage and control dual spec kinda thing since it's obvious after 1 year that the two things cannot be balanced by this dev team.
This idea make no sense to me so i voted "no".
However there is clearly a problem with pvp/pve balancing affecting each other. There are many solution to this, one that i could support is Dragon Nest style, where skills have 2 separated versions, one active versus other players and one active in pve, and you can see both versions from the description where they may have different CD or dmg.... what do u think?

Yeah that's what I suggested but using Guild wars as an example , I had no idea Dragons nest had the same kind of system, trying to balance one set of skills that have 2 different effects depending on whether you are in pvp or pve is nigh on impossible trying to balance 2 sets of skills that have one effect for pvp and one effect for pve would be a lot easier , then again Guild wars had constant changes and skill passes on a very regular basis , not just once every few months.
Devs! Please look into these great ideas on how to manage the PvP and PvE communities! Both mattreb and iamannoyingdevil have great ideas
Are we aware, though... that the upcoming changes are directed towards PvE and not PvP? They are actually quite gamebreaking in PvP. Not so much in PvE.

That is why I am hoping the devs could find a compromise between the two. We should not have to worry about what changes would break what in either PvP or PvE. If there was a way to incorporate both without breaking either then the game will be fun for everyone. What I am trying to say is that I feel that PvP and PvE should find equal ground and am looking for ideas on how the devs can incorporate it.
Face it PVP's, the only reason you want to remain with the PVE's is so that you have something to strut your imaginary stuff to other than the other PVP's that are currently kicking your butt; hard to strut there isnt it.
Its amusing that many of the non elite PVP's come off as hard core power addicts but they are the 1st to want everything nerfed.
The proof is in the PVP mud, (no pun intended) if you really are that good and want to play with the elite graphics mudders, then you wont mind doing ( in fact want very much) so in your own atmosphere with your own set of power gear etc and dictate to ONLY yourselves in PVP what power u should and should not have. Those of you that have yet to arrive at the PVP elite level and dont fair very well with other PVP's there, want us PVE's as a contrast medium to feel as the elite do within the elite.
The true PVP elite are not snidey and leap with sarcasm with every forum members input. They are far head enough that they clearly see where the player is along the path of evolution enough to fondly recall the time frame they were in at that point.
(Note to PVP reader...this nxt paragraph has nothing to do with PVP).....Speaking of gear stats etc...is it possible that as we (PVE's) evolve past level 60 and we accumulate XP ..that at certain junctures we get to add more action icons per encounter? I can feel the avalanche of snarky LOL's and all the childish remarks from the wanna be PVP's from this as it would be ... omg OP...but only OP in PVP (pls dont hurt me mindsets) ..its NEVER OP in PVE..ever. More icons means more complex and enjoyabe strategies etc. As players grow...more abilities can be used in an encounter and mobs that were tough now are taken out easier: see it as a reward for sticking with a character as well as the game. That's whats supposed to happen...the devs now get to work and add on new areas to stay a step ahead. As player power grows so do the NPC;s in those new ares...They wont have to worry about this extrameme mind virus called game"balance" that screams from PVP (as they can go bash each others heads in with their own gear and behind their own walls The devs and PVE's now can focus on game FUN

Realize that hardcore PVP community in this game represents a tiny tiny fraction.
Also, I doubt I want to waste Cryptic's limited resources in making this happen.
I am in favor of having separate open world pvp instances though......ones wherein you are always flagged and the ones w/o the PVP areas

If I recall correctly by monitoring this section of the forums its the PvP abuse kings that calls to the nerf bat the most.
