Cockatrice - How does it rate as a companion?

Anyone who has quite a few pets... how would you rate/rank
the cockatrice as a basic PvE sidekick? (Or is it too bugged to know?)

Don't want to buy one if they're going to change the powers (like with
the chicken) or it's rooting powers are messed up (which they may never fix.)

Thoughts? (I have to ask now, instead of waiting because of their 'once in a
lifetime' type offer. Price can only go up with rarity. ummm Unless they gut the powers...
like the chicken.)
Did you really think anyone could steal the power of the god of thieves?

    I'd give it a 5.

In open PvP, it might be useful. I haven't tried. But in regular dungeon PvE, it won't survive more than a few seconds, being a close range companion.

for only 10% chance to root (for 3 quick seconds) IF you get damaged?

Yeah... for the price it's going for now, total junk rip off AD sink.

It root is amazing for OWPVP. I fought a DC with it the other day. I didn't move for a good 30 seconds.

Hmm.. I didn't think of the cockatrice and chicken that way. So basically they are companions more useful for PVP and not so much for PVE...

Thanks! That saves me AD as I am not going to buy any now. :)

You are underselling it, its unbelievable.

The root is not merely "good" for open world PVP, it is AMAZING and ANNOYING.

Ranged classes were just given an indirect but significant buff in open world pvp with this companion

thinking on the price of the egg, it is better to get a good companion you have, like a healer fawn/cleric disciple/lizard and upgrade it to epic than buy the egg...

on the other hand it seems to be cheaper than the egg so... if you like the powers you may want to buy it.

My TR just dueled someone with this. The root procs alot! For some reason it is the hardest root i have seen. Can't dodge or anything when it goes off. I was rooted more than 3 secs, must have low cooldown

For open world pvp, the cockatrice is so much better and op

    It's ludicrous on tanky characters.

Is this worth for a tank/support Gwf over a Rust monster or a Dread Warrior?

It's mostly useful in PvP from my perspective.

    Yes

*Open world PVP, not regular domination to some who might read this mistakenly.

Also, I wouldn't use "mostly useful" as an adjective as in my opinion I think it underestimates how powerful it is. The cockatrice is a very annoying and overpowered companion in open world pvp. The foe is pretty much rooted and interrupted every few seconds and they stay in place for 3 seconds.

Well I guess the secret is out as the AH market blew up today. Now they're going for 1.1 million, so basically no reason not to just buy the egg itself from the bazaar and hope for a chicken. Sucks, I was hoping to get one or two for alts, but the price is well beyond reach in 2 days now.

Yeah, the companion is amazing for OWPVP. Even more so on GWFs and GFs, forcing you to facetank them.

At present, people are reporting that it does not work in PvE.

the root for cockatrice feels like ice rays without the damage, and we all know how ice rays affects gwfs and their threatening rush *cough* nothing *cough*

I hate to say it but the cockatrice is just broken in IWD PvP... 10% chance to stun for 3 seconds, no internal cooldown and is proced by dot.

A mage puts conduit of ice on me, he wont move again, atall. It will perma-snare him till I kill him.

Also It completely ruins plaguefire and DoT enchants, because Vorpal really needed ANOTHER reason to be the best enchant...

It needs a serious nerf to proc chance, snare duration AND needs to have an internal cooldown so it can't be proced twice before the first has ran out.

It seems hard to rate, but I nabbed it with all my remaining savings because it seemed so strong in the right scenarios. The tricky part is it is hard to spot. I been trying to train my eyes to watch for it in the spam, but not doing a good job. I may move over to audio-triggers in a log parser at this rate because it is very useful to know when something is rooted.

Has anyone noticed a visual effect on feet or something. Something I should be looking for?

I really hope that when they fix this companion for PvE,they don't nerf it because of PvP'ers, since this is a nice active for PvE,and hoping it will stay the way it is cause it is a useful companion, though if they are changing it cause of PvP,they should give a second active bonus just for OWPVP. As they should with every companion,so if does not effect us PvE people.
