As far as I am concerned I believe the scheduling of the downtime has some room for improvement aswell. 2 hours of downtime at near primetime (CET). I suggest to plan the next downtimes a few hours earlier.
I do agree with lewstelamon01 about the potential complexebility of a patch. In fact, usually patching is more complicated than deploying a new module or program.

Would you rather they work overtime and do it at midnight their time zone just so they have to go back to work in a few hours? Times zones will always be inconvenient for someone no matter how they plan it, stop complaining about it.

In fact I would like that, yes. I work for a software company and am responsible for releasing applications and maintaining them for customers. We would loose every drop of work when we would schedule downtime at office hours. Is it too much to atleast suggest planning the downtime at alternate times?

Nevertheless, you're 1) missing the other half of his point that someone is going to be unhappy no matter what time Cryptic chooses, and 2) probably develop software for a client base other than gamers. We can be an impatient lot.

1) Agreed, no matther what the choice is, some group will be disappointed.
2) I doubt this, atleast the client I refer to, since they also have over 20.000 users at peak-times, which pick up the phone the second they are hindered or delayed at entering their data.
But I think you're both also missing my point. I am not telling it need to change. I am merely suggesting to look at alternate times. If the conclusion is that the currently choosen times are the times that on average the least users are playing, it's fine by me. For now to me it seems there is room for improvement, concideren the number of players I run into at the various times. But that's my opion.
We all know there is a lot more going in than this lol. Any chance you can give us a full list? We know the HR/GWF set bonus is going down, the HR healing ability is getting a timer b/w procs, roar is getting fixed, all that. So anything like that this patch? Or was it really a 1-2 hour shut down for a wall?

Is 2 hours of downtime really necessary to apply a single fix?

Those changes would be added in a regular patch, during the regular weekly update, not an emergency one like this.

Regression testing. 2 hours isn't bad; where I work, software regression testing takes weeks (then again, when you're talking about aircraft...)

It's back up, not sure how long ago because I was on the phone.
Point being, they always block out two hours but maint may take more or less time depending how it goes.

LOL. Well, if you know what modules are affected you might skip some. Then again, for game development the key word is "time to market", not security as it is with aircrafts...

Because in previous patch they did list it but I still wasn't able to do anything with the appearance of my character -.-
WTB Class Reroll please
Furthermore, nothing is EVER simple when it comes to patching something and ensuring that the patch is stable.
