The 3 boon requirement was a huge surprise and major disappointment for me.
I started playing again just because I heard about this expansion, and it sucks I won't be able to experience it for at least 2 weeks.
The 10k GS I can handle, but the 3 boons part is kind of ridiculous.
I'm going to try, but not sure if i can make it through 2 weeks of grinding dailies, it and makes me not even want to play my alts knowing I will eventually have to do the same for every level 60.
Was going to buy a jaguar mount, but glad I waited until after the expansion was released. Not sure if it's worth it anymore.

It should be reduced to 2 boons.
If it is 2 boons, you literally get that in less than 30 minutes (Sharandar).

One quest with pretty decent rewards per day isn't really grinding - That is, just do the daily quest from Sgt. Knox (Phantasmal Fortress etc) It gives you all you need for the boons, and the other rewards are pretty decent purple gear you can salvage and (purple) marks you can use to level up your artifacts.
You only need to grind all the other quests if you want to improve your gauntlet.
I am going to be quite honest here. The boon requirement well whatever...
However the 10K GS min is just that the min...you will get you *** handed to you by everything at just 10k GS. 12K honestly should be the min, however with that said I think it was a trade off to enter to be able to work on your class artifacts. Let me repeat at a min of 10k IWD is gonna mop the floor with you.
JUst saying is all..from someone who played on preview since day 1. The 10k is just the required min, it does not mean you will LIVE. You have been warned.
Hi, I'm not particularly happy with the requirement myself but I think you only need 2 characters if you are going for the free artifact.
The other stuff seems to be available to any level 60 with the requirements.
I only have a lvl 60 but so far, I can get the icepick and the chiller for the profession to shape the ice.
I don't know if I will be obstructed from further progress some point later but so far from what I've seen, the artifact quest seems to be the only quest requiring 2 lvl 60s with the boons.
So, perhaps your child and you can still check out the new mod while working on the new character for the time being.
EDIT: Oh, looks like I misinterpreted the post. Unfortunately, getting 3 boons is a must. Dread Ring will be the fastest and imo better boons to get. You'll also need a higher gearscore than 10k and the boons if you want to survive so I guess it really is a must to get the boons. I got 12k GS with 3 boons from DR and 2 from Sharandar and I still find myself chugging potions once in a while. It might be safer to get as many boons as you can before going.

My guildmates able to enter IWD in his main toon without having his second toon acquiring Sharandar / DR boons. You should try entering it now. Only if you want class artifacts that you are required to grind dailies on your second toon.
Since you have played since beta, Im pretty sure your main already have all the boons.
We need two "toons" (god, I hate that word...) with three boons and all that for the artifact I couldn't care less about. The issue is being required to get three boons and a 10k GS just to *get* to Icewind Dale. As I said, my highest level is 9.7k GS and two boons. That means I can't get to Icewind Dale without grinding for weeks more with her, and I'm already sick of it.
And no, I don't have all the boons. The reason is that I love the game so much I have one of every class, and I play with all of then on and off. Why on earth would I want to keep grinding the same content over and over and over and over and over with one character for boring boons I don't even want, when I can switch to another one and get something different, and feel like I'm making progress? That's the issue here. They actually expect me to ignore all my characters and all the fun, to switch to one character and grinding content I'm bored to tears off just to be allowed into the new content and get some variation. That's not happening. I already think locking new content to max level players is questionable, but I understand why they do it. But locking it to only a handful of people? That's just ridiculous.
But know what the really sad part is? I grinded Sharendar long enough to get into the new dungeon (that castle or whatever), and I think it's one of the most boring dungeons yet. All that grinding wasted. Yay...

For those who are complaining they couldn't get into IWD, heed this ^ post. Because 90% of the mobs are elites, and Heroic Encounters can frustrate player with low gearscores (doesn't mean you can't live, but you will be struggling to stay alive by wasting pots and injury kits).
This incessant whining about the requirements is old already.
No, it was not a surprise. This has been known for like a month if anyone paid any attention to the forums, Youface updates, News postings and blogs. The developers and marketing managers made every effort to make sure everyone knew this and it was public. I, too, just started playing again after a lengthy break, and it was not a secret.
Getting 3 boons from ONE of these campaigns is NOT a big deal. I'm a busy HAMSTER and I don't have all day to play, but I'm doing both Dread Ring and Sharandar at the same time. Running through dailies, including both lairs, AND selling all equipment, making gauntlet, salvaging, and cleaning up takes literally 1 hour a night. It's ridiculous how much can get done in such little time. If I had not been ignoring the boons to upgrade the gauntlet, I'd be done Dread Ring by now and I've only been playing a couple of weeks. Sharandar does take longer and there's no way to speed it up, but the dailies don't take a ton of time.
If you're playing multiple characters, yes it will take you forever, but that's what you get by playing alts. What's better? Getting to Sharandar and dying every other battle because you're not HAMSTER enough or not getting there until you are HAMSTER enough and maybe you live longer?
Quit *****ing. It's been common knowledge for weeks, it makes sense, and it's not going to change. If you don't want to play the content, don't, but *****ing because you don't get everything you want only makes people sound like whiny entitled children (which I'm sure some folks are). Just chill and deal with it.

Obviously the requirements were not common knowledge, or else so many people wouldn't have been taken off guard by it.
There are a few complaining compared to the thousands that knew, understood, and are not complaining. They are busy grinding away and getting their boons so they can get to Icewind Dale. It's true that there was some initial confusion about whether it was 3 aggregate boons from both campaigns or 3 linear boons from either campaign. It's been cleared up. There's no way around it and it's not a big deal.
Another thing... it's interesting to note that some folks complaining about going back to these two campaigns and grinding away also have multiple level 60 characters. How long did it take for them to grind out those alts? Why did that not cause the same kind of irritation when that is certainly longer than it takes to grind out 3 boons in Dread Ring. I agree the content is more repetitive, but I can't even imagine going back to replay ALL of the pre-level 60 content just to get an alt leveled and not feeling as if it were a grind. I suppose it's a new class or whatever, but this is a rather dissonant complaint and it doesn't make much sense.
Finally, I think it's GREAT to see that not everyone playing this game is an OCD college puke with too much time on their hands. Hell, FAMILIES are playing this game together? Awesome! So glad to see some of these folks speaking out on the forums. I wish they'd do it more.
You can just buy ur third boon with thayan relicts, since they give you a cipher now.
Not sure if everyone realized that yet.
Question
Are you saying to buy the key to open the chest in Dread ring?
Just wondering if that's the way to speed up boon acquiring
Since it requires a lair key to enter DF/PF/DS

No you can buy the relicts that come from rusted/unearthed boxes and trade them for scrolls, scripts and the cipher at the npc in the dread ring. So you can pretty much buy 30? relicts and get EVERY dreadring boon.

So happy to hear you say this. I took to this thread for the same reason. I play the game with my son (and I'm his Mom, not even his Dad, ha!). I don't see a lot of people like ourselves around, but we enjoy it all the same.

3 boon is better than needing 100% of both campaigns unlocked.
