Balancing PVP and PVE Content

Although I'm a PvE'er, I'd say both. More specifically, I think a division between the mechanics of powers, stats, ability scores, and enchantments between PvP and PvE would help a great deal.

It's be all sorts of awesome if we could have a second character sheet exclusively for PvP, complete with preset gear and pre-slotted powers, among other things. A tidy swap with the press of a button similar to the switch between armor and fashion overlays, perhaps one that automatically transfers our enchantments from the PvE to PvP sets (unless we decide to slot others uniquely for the PvP sheet.) Or, if the auto-transfer would be troublesome to program, perhaps a new option given when you right-click on an already-slotted enchantment to "slot in PvP gauntlets (or whichever equivalent armor piece)" for free.

I have friends, both PvP- and PvE-oriented, who shun the other element of the game in large part because it's just too much work (and gold!) to go rearranging oneself from one style to the other. The other major complaint I hear from either side is that, when abilities and cooldowns are nerfed or altered to suit one side of the game, it has all the wrong kind of impact on the other. Funny as it might sound, I think dividing the mechanics of each (and making it less troublesome to "suit up" between PvP and PvE) would actually foster more dual-sided play in many folks who currently specialize in only one.

I'm probably not explaining this as well as it could be explained, but you get the gist. :p These ideas have probably been iterated elsewhere in the forums, but it seems like a neat incentive for die-hard PvP/PvE'ers to dabble in their counterparts' realms.
I have the ability to heal you. A shield to protect you. Blades to slay your foes. Magic! So I'm a tiefling, so what? We have a common enemy, and a common goal. Here, you can put ornaments on my horns if it'll put you at ease.

I voted pve of course but that doesn't mean I wanna see any more campaign / dailies /timesinks grind.
Just give love to the foundry since there are better content there than what Cryptic has managed to create.
Levels 1 to 20 were rather good though with the spellplague and tower questline after that quality dropped hard. Would have also liked to see more of the Nashers plot that seemed interesting.

They tried something like that with Sharandar. But it was of course way too easy to open the next gate.
Apart from that, I really really really really like your idea. The only problem with it is time. It takes Cryptic about 3-4 months to produce 1 module containing 10 quests and 4 lairs (and perhaps 1 class with 1 paragon path). To start with this now would mean no updates for the next 2 years at the very least. Even if they would do this, it would mean maybe 1 plane every 4 months. And the people with currently15k+GS would still consider it a walk in the park or it's impossible for the rest of the playerbase. Had they build the system like that from the beginning it would be another story, but I don't see them go that far now. Still, the idea itself is awesome.

PS what game was that and is it still online?

Thanks and Im sure your right. The wiki for the game is here (it is really the main internet portal for the game):
    http://wiki.hgweb.org/wiki/Main_Page

Its still online and they are still churning out content though at a slower pace. It is dnd 3e, a heavily modified and improved version of nwn1.

I'd say more PvE content and completely scrap the PvP content for several reasons. Here's why:

    1) First off, this is a F2P PW game. We all know that the vast majority of F2P games are run by the cash shop. We already know that most cash shop items put the player vastly ahead of anyone who plays without. It's easier, faster, and more efficient to invest in the cash shop to get ahead rather than playing free. With that said, PvP right now is a complete joke. Various classes have several bugs that remain unattended to, even on the Preview Server, and various factors put some classes far ahead of others, restrict them to stale builds, or just make them outright unviable to play. A good example of this is TR.

    2) You won't find a good balance between PvE and PvP in a F2P game without making every class mediocre at everything. If all DPS classes were given the same flat damage, whichever team has the DC wins. This can be circumvented by making class stats/ratios change when entering PvP but then you'd have the problem of an awesome PvP class/build that's stupidly underpowered and useless in PvE.

    3) The devs can barely keep PvE balanced, they need to sort out one or the other. Right now, there are a handful (maybe less) of classes/builds that are instakicked from most PuGs. Back when I started playing, CWs were instakicked if they didnt have SotEA skilled. Right now, I see TRs and MoF CWs getting instakicked from PuGs, even some HRs. Why even bother trying to fix PvP when PvE already required significant attention?

    4) Did I mention this is F2P? Realistically, they won't scrap PvP, make PvP better, or address the PvE problems. Why? Because you get a lot more money through the cash shop when you have PvP and PvE items available. Why the hell would you buy a mount out of CS? Oh yea, you get to domination points faster and can more easily chase someone down. PW is probably going to repeat the same process most F2P MMOs do - Buff a class so it's superior or FoTM so everyone rerolls and buys relevant items from CS, nerf it, and buff another class to take its place. They've done it several times already.
Broken mechanics, broken class designs, lack of actual content, and over zealous, bronze-age moderation?

    Go Cryptic!
    PS - I quit.

Actually, whichever team doesn't have the DC would win. I think you're thinking of other games where healers can heal through anything.

Anyway, I think they can (and do) make plenty of money without purposefully making PVP unbalanced.

I find the PVP to be some of the most balanced in MMORPGs I've played. There's usually 1 or 2 OP classes, just like in this game, but there's also usually 1 or 2 that are just really horrible, which I don't find in this game.

Actually, its whichever team has the least amount of CWs win....given that skill and gear are equal

Must be at lvl 60 then. My RolePlay mage completed all the regular dungeons and was never kicked. Pure chill mage, not only no SoteA but also no Sing, no EF. Maybe it changes at lvl 60. Maybe at 60 you don't care about content.

More PvE for me, I am here to kill evil foes, not other players.
But for the pvp-ers the game needs more pvp too. Not more of the same. Mod3 is about Player Killing, camping, farming the lowbies, wild unfair PvP. That's something. But the game needs also 1v1, arena, catch the flag, King of the hill, and a ladder, an Arena ranking.

What I would like to see is better arenas for PVP. Right now you are in a box and the trickster rogues and great weapons fighters over power every other class and just rack up kills. It is just a waste of time to try to use a cleric, a mage or a hunter ranger at all. Also how about gear scored based pvp?? I mean there is level 60 and there is level 60 with all tier 2 gear???

For more PVE there should be higher levels open for characters. You must start at level 60 but as you progress through the new content you get higher levels. This new 1 power point for every 250k xp really does not do anything for me, my character is as good as it can get except for the gear I put on him.
