It's defintiely... blocky.
TBH, I was kinda hoping it'd look like normal gear, but have some sort of effect where pieces of black ice would jut out periodically.

Lol yeah its a little overdone,
I haven't tried yet, but I'm sure there's going to be a lot of transmutes done on these. They do kinda make you look like a porcupine. But then again you really are wearing ice all over your body.

I agree they look terrible to me, I don't know what I expected but I don't care for the looks. I have no doubt some will but at times I really gotta wonder how the art team comes up with these ideas, Star Wars did some really horrible skins for gear, it was so bad it was part of the reason I quit playing. I don' think companies realize how important it is to have good skins on characters or gear. Taking a setting and then making gear that is not appropriate for the setting (making something look fantasy in a sci fi setting or vice versa) just takes away the flavor of the game. Be consistent with looks, keep it proper the setting and for god sakes take a poll once in a while to see what people really do like as opposed to force feeding us these outfits that look worse than a horses *** with a cabbage fungal infection.
Good thing is that there are 4 new vanity costumes in Caer konig that are very cheap and all of them look kinda cool plus there is also a new pirate vanity costume for finishing the pvp campaign that will look awesome by default simply for being a pirate costume so if you dislike the new gear you have plenty of new options to cover it up.
I think that some of them (the CW and GWF) look really cool (bud-um CHING!), some of them (the HR and DC) look luke-warm (O.K., the puns are starting to get old......) and some (GF) just leave me cold (sound of lonely crickets...).

They did not impress me on the pictures either, but if I had to do the art work ... well, you do not want to know what you are missing. So it is not so bad after all. And once the stats on the armor becomes official will one look at them with different eyes entirely. In fact, some would be wearing the ugliest things if it gave them ultimate power.
Oh c'mon, it's obvious they want us to use fashion costumes (preferably the zen ones) or pay for transmuting. Come to think after releasing a HR I was thinking their art designer get better and better.

None of that gear looks so bad. And who cares what it looks like as long as the stats are good. Fashion will take care of covering it anyway. And they just gave out free fashion, so everyone should be set.
Some of the new Icewind fashion sets are nice. I'll be wearing them mostly so it doesn't matter what the new armors look like. They just need new colors.

I agree. Some of the them would look pretty well on my toon
Yeah looks like they were dipped into molasses then thrown into a hurricane...I get the look, but I'd rather see a subtle touch instead of the large spoon of peanut butter they threw at the gear...
Not only do you have to grind to get the gear, you have to grind to keep it powered up, and then you have to dump more effort into making it not fugly.

IIRC there are two versions of each set - Purified and Corrupted. I think the Purified sets are less OTT? Certainly the CW sets are like that - the on shown on this link is the Corrupted set.
Anyway - the TR set doesn't look so bad and the HR set is a huge improvement on the fugly Grim/Profound sets so that's two of my toons happy.
EDIT: Nope - the two gear versions are Basic and Upgraded. Both Purified and Corrupted look like the pics in this thread. Oh well...

Didn't the corrupted black ice corrupt you also? So if you're wearing corrupted set shouldn't it make you loose control of you character occasionally or something? :P
I like the TR armour and might Dye it Cleric White to Camouflage into the landscape:)
