with
module 3: curse of icewind dale right around the corner, i wanted to get people thinking about submitting class builds for both pve and pvp. i was going through some of the class guides and builds and there's some ancient stuff up there. there has to be theorycrafters already working out the most viable builds for the balanced HR and GWF changes.
if you want your builds added to the list of class guides and builds, make sure you add the link to this thread:
http://nw-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?437341-Guide-Class-Guides-Builds-and-Resources
this list is managed by our fantastical mage moderator Zebular so you may gently nudge him with a PM note as he may be busy conjuring up some dark magic for his phylactery of doom. no, i don't think zeb is a lich, but that guy just knows stuff.
if you have a current build or something that you are regularly updating that is not currently on the list, let's get it added!

I think many of the players are still fiddling around with what's optimal. Also, with Module 3 around the corner, Black Ice Gear and pets are going to have a huge impact on play style.
Finally, many PVPers specifically have gravitated to other websites to post their builds due to various reasons.

Yup, I think most theory crafting right now is oriented around what people are experiencing on the preview shard + dev statements on class balances. There is still a place for showcasing builds that are curent as of now though, I think.

What you want for PvE is pretty simple. You want a character that can debuff the adds and do a high volume of damage/heals. Amount of HP is irrelevant. Why? As a GWF you will have a naturally high damage resistance, and going unstoppable gives you even more damage resistance. Sitting at 21k health is rarely going to bother you unless you get hit by xivros, a golem, or the hands in the dracolich fight. These are things that are easily avoidable. The red circle and animation for these things broadcast well in advance and give you plenty of time to stop and get out of the way with your sprint. As any other class, you can dodge. So things like HP/Defense/Deflect/Regen are completely useless stats. If you have life steal at 10% and deal a high volume of damage, at any given moment you will be at full life. Regen won't help your healing, as you won't be sitting below 50% HP for long. You'll either be dead, or be immediately back to 100% HP. If your plan is to generally control the room and dodge properly, why bother having high damage resistance or deflect? You will not be taking damage. Get your crit chance up to around 41%, recovery up pretty high, make sure that your armor penetration is at 24%, and stack as much power as possible. You want offensive boons that allow you to kill the trash adds quicker so that you can focus dodging the tankier adds. That's how you want a pve build.
However, you want the exact opposite in pvp. You want to have high HP, high defense, high deflect, and high regen. Lifesteal does you no good because damage and healing is nerfed. Lifesteal is 70% less effective than it was. So you want something that can survive a long period of time to be able to effectively block a node from being captured. It doesn't even change when it comes to open world. If you're able to take a larger volume of hits than your opponent, you'll be able to capitalize on having more effective healing and defense. His HP will go down like a loading bar while yours will remain steady and comfortable. Since pvp is more about teamwork, even if you don't deal that much damage the logic is this: If you can survive long enough for a teammate to float to your node, you can quickly 2 vs 1 your opponent to death. Winning your 1v1 match is less important than being able to effectively use your teammates. Not only that, but if you don't have around 30k health, you could die in an encounter+daily rotation from one person if they crit the daily. That's a 9k difference from what I would recommend in pve. There is very little room for error.
So a pve+pvp viable build would be one tanky enough to effectively eat a burst, and high enough damage to kill adds at an effective pace.
As a GWF you'd require these stats:
40% Damage Resistance
30% Deflect
10% Life Steal
10% Regen
41% Crit Chance
24% Mitigation
6k power
1.5k Recovery
35k HP
^ Impossible.
What is going to happen is, you will make your Frankenstein build, and find out this: You can stomp the usual **** in pvp, but will constantly get trashed by anyone who has a pvp specific build. You can do the T2 dungeons, but will find that your damage/healing output will be undesirable for both Castle Never and Valindra's Tower.
You're asking an impossible task. You will find it much less frustrating to make a specific pve character, and a specific pvp character.
Right now, unless you are blind or simply don't know about the boundary at all, it is hard to "accidentally" flag yourself for PvP. They expanded the border a lot and added an environmental boundary for a better visual effect.
I agree as a GWF myself. As a TR, you're not desired in PvE anyway, so you should go full PvP. As a CW, just as with the GWF, there's no middle ground, you either are as resilient as they get for PvP, either a good DPS for PvE. GF? Who cares. Class is not that good for PvP or PvE anyway. I'd stick with PvP though as a GF, at least you can be useful. HRs might be able to build something nice for both PvP and PvE, but their class won't be as good as a CW in PvE anyway, so why bother, just go full PvP.
DC could well be the only class that can have great PvE and PvE from a single build, especially since they are not really required to either DPS or heal (too much) in PvE.
I'm going to say this once and only once: Under NO circumstances is any poster to attack another poster, regardless of title or authority. Doing so is a direct violation of section I of Rules of Conduct.
It's been said more times than I care to count that public discussion of forum moderation is NOT allowed. Period. That is not, nor will it ever be, up for debate. Those topics degenerate into flame wars and frankly, moderation issues are not the concern of the rest of the board other than the party or parties involved in the moderation action. This is why we require that it be kept private.
PVP videos: You know the rules. If you do not ask for approval or have not received that approval from the community team, your videos will be removed without notice until such approval is given. Too many times video threads have degenerated into epeen waving contests, or other unnecessary drama, or contain material that some others may find offensive, and hence, we have instituted that policy. If you cannot adhere to what we ask, please do not post.
We ask only that the community follow the rules that have been set down. Those rules aren't there to be pretty nor are they to be ignored or followed only when you wish or which ones you want to agree to. You agree to them ALL and to follow them at ALL times when you post here. If any poster cannot do this then we ask that you refrain from posting until such time that you can.
Do not respond to this note publicly. Rather, use the PM system to address any concerns.

I also have never, ever found a direct NEED for Smoke Bomb as a Trickster Rogue.
Even with the severe ranged and close up DPS I have I still on occasion get confused as a "tank". Yes, a TR tank.
I'm still trying to figure that one out.

Yes, any guide is welcome... as long as it conforms to the RoC, EULA, and ToS of course.
