Why are Tieflings a separate race

    o__o??

How long have Tiefling's been around now for?

I wonder how the people over at TSR and Wizard's of the Coast would approach that question. xD

But hey, let's just humor the question for a moment.

    Let's say for instance:

Bob walks up to the devil and the following ensues:

Bob: "Hello there Lucifer, i have this human friend who wishes to be gifted with demonic powers"

Lucifer: "Alright... but he will have t..."

Bob: "Oh gezz i forgot to mention, he wants demonic powers but he wants to stay human"

Lucifer: "..... Sooooo, your human friend, wants to stay human, but be gifted with powers only the body of a demon could possibly handle without melting into a steaming pile of demon goo... correct?"

Bob: "... Yes!, that's exactly right!"

    Lucifer: *Facepalm*

But that is not how Tieflings were originally created. They were the manifestations of Devils/Demons seducing or HAMSTER humanoids (Accounting for the Fey'Ri, Whisplings, Tannaruk, etc common in FR lore.) AFter all, Devils and Demons are randy buggers, and like to have their spawn all over the planes to corrupt later.

Your reason as to how they came to be is closer to 4E incarnations. They are all the spawn of Asmodeus.

IDK. Like I said I'm not entirely happy with the change myself.
It's almost as if somebody snapped their figner and everything in the past and present was changed.

To look at a quality example of a lore change: Dark Elves and Drow.
Dark Elves were drow who were forgiven by Correllon. Their skin became brown, hair color became darker, they can live on the surface without fear, but lost some innate abilities. Essentially the curse was lifted.
The old lore didn't go away. It simply changed with time.

That's not what happened to Tiefling lore...as near as I can tell.

The fact remains that the lore has remained very true to Fourth Edition, amazingly so. They supposedly have a lore Guru in the office who knows everything. I don't know his name or who he is. I don't know if I have ever seen him on the forums or in game...

But I do know that Gillrmn is a lore encyclopedia and the other community moderator, Zebular, rivals Gillrmn. If I have a question about the lore either one of them can answer it off their top of their heads and even give me source references o.O!
So the fact they're not calling the invisible man behind the curtain out tells me he's doing a pretty darn stand up job.

The bottom line is that this is a change made years ago for 4E by Wizards of the Coast, not by Cryptic.

WoTC have forums, and are currently looking for player feedback for 5E ( which they are calling 'D&D Next' ).

So it might be a good idea to go (politely) post on those forums instead, if you want future D&D games (which will continue to be licensed from WoTC) to use the 'old' Tieflings instead of the 'new' ones.

I very much doubt there is much Cryptic can do about this at their end.
    Waiting for paladins...

because the orginal teifling bloodline was human. and after the fall of mystra and the assention of asmodesus all couplings with a tiefling produces a "pure tiefling" child. your argument was more valid before mystras fall and the great change that came after. the "tiefling" blood line in a mix between the taint similar to the one that tainted the devils and turned them into what they are from their original celestial form and humans. all other sub races are able to "breed" out there ancestry. tieflings nolonger can do this. because of asmodesus they are in fact now there own race with the inate ability to breed with all the races and not effect the bloodline

Should have waited a few more weeks before posting, jtriv. Then it would be a full year since the last post.
