The one we fought in CN just now seemed a bit small. Was that the change?

That was a part of it, remembering another post about it.. but there is something else.. maybe relating to damage output?
I may be misremembering.. it's been some years. But my recollection of gelatinous cubes is that they only live in dungeons and that they are the cleaners of said dungeons, which is the reason for their shape.. they filled the corridor.. scraping the walls, floor and often the ceiling, digesting whatever they found.
We used to use them to force the parties to find another way round.. or take their chances.. they were really hard to kill. Flaming oil and whatever.
So if I am not misremembering... It would be ridiculous to see one of these in open air. or even as they appear in Valindra's tower.
I don't know... like I said, it's been some years.

You are remembering correctly. They are the garbage collectors of dungeons. Edged weapons are virtually useless against them, fire, magic and blunt weapons are needed to effectively exterminate (w/Dalek voice over) them.

Thanks for that. It's one of the biggest shortcomings of this game.. lack of consideration for the resistance or vulnerability to this or that type of damage that a given monster may possess. Blunt weapons or fire for zombies and skellies. Burning oil for puddings, bright light vs orcs and deep dwellers. Heat vs cold and vice versa. I mean what does an Ice Golem care if you hit it with an Ice Storm? He would likely follow you home begging for more!
But yeah I know.. D&D is just a flavoring in this stew, and nothing more. But still.. logic has to rear its ugly head at SOME point..
