Before the HR was released to Live, I created one on Preview and got it to lvl 60. When I started Dread Ring, one of the lair quests bugged, and I never got the book needed to do Thayan stuff in the boons column. I'm totally stuck, unable to accept missions, or get boons, because of this. It may seem silly, but this is my main testing HR, and I really don't want to delete her. I've tried buying a key, removing the current stuck quest, etc., but nothing helps. Is there any way to fix this?

You have 3 chances to get the Book. Death Forge is hardest, Dread Spire is next hardest and the Phantasmal Fortress is easiest. I'll concentrate on the Phantasmal Fortress. Bring an Iron Gauntlet if you get/can make one. Mostly you can use at-wills Use split shot to kill the 3 phantasms at the top of the stairs (2-4 shots should do it) Use the teleport to get to Thay. Use split shot on the 2 groups of 3 Thayan devotees (again 2-4 shots should kill). Enter the Phantasmal Fortress. First group 2 dread protectors (or 1 dread protector and one Thayan knight) and 1 zombie. Use split shot 2-4 times to kill zombie, damage others, then rain of arrows to hit both Protectors or Knight/Protector and continue to use split shot to cut them down. Next group 3 Thayan Devotees kill with split shot 2-4 times. Grab the Thief's skill node nearby. Next group 3 Phantasms - use split shot 2-4 times. Next group 3 Thayan devotees - use split shot 2-4 times. Note illusory wall to their sleeping quarters on right side of hallway. Next group Thayan Red Wizard (move out of Red zone) plus 2 Thayan Devotees + 2-4 Phantasms (depending on how long it takes to take down the wizard) use split shot and rain of arrows on wizard until they are dead. Grab the Religious node in the alcove. Last small group 3 Thayan Devotees - use 2-4 split shot. Note Campfire behind illusory wall in the corner. Before you go up the stairs take the short hallway to the hall/stairs downto loot the chest at the bottom then back up, but don't go up the stairs yet go into the alcove to the left of the stairs for the Dungoneering node, then double back to the campfire to heal up if needed. NOW go up the stairs. Enter the Zulkir's room. Use 2-4 split shot to kill off the Zulkir' Phantasms Then use aimed shot (unless he interrupts your shot then switch back to split shot and a rain of arrows if he concentrates on your companion. Once the wizard is dead the Phantasm and 2 Thayan devotees appear (You may get as 9 shots) shoot 2-4 split shot to take care of the Thayan devotees then switch to 5-7 aimed shots on the phylactery alone (this will destroy half or more of it) The Zulkir will reappear with 2 Phantasms (If the Zulkir is in Wizard mode do as before - 2-4 split shot to kill the Phantasms [in any case]) then split shot or aimed shot) If the Zulkir is in GWF mode avoid the axe spin Red zone and use split shot, rain of arrows to take him down. if the Zulkir is in Thief mode use 2-4 split shot then Rain of arrows as she closes, then split shot to finish her but exit the red zone of stunning to continue the fight. if the Zulkir is in cleric mode use 2-4 split shot to eliminate phantasms and 1-2 rain of arrows when he stays stationary interspersed with split shots. 2nd Zulkir dies. Use 2-4 split shot to kill the 2 Thayan Devotees that appear with the phylactery and 5-7 aimed shots to destroy the lone phylactery. Grab the treasure from the right chest using your gauntlet (if you brought one), then open the left chest which contains the book needed for Gauntlet advancement and other stuff.
The three quests rotate M-F so you will get 1-2 chance for the Phantasmal Fortress plus you can do the Phantasmal Fortress twice on the weekends. this should give your HR 3-4 books a week Plus 15-20 Thayan Scrolls and another 30 Thayan Scrolls for doing the Red Wizards quest for Sgt. Knox.

so, what you're saying is you got into DR, did the (3) quests the NPC give, talked to Knox, got the quest for the Dread Spire (its always the dread spire the first time, not the daily rotation) and TALKED TO THE RED WIZARD BY THE FIRE BEFORE GOING TO DS? you need the gauntlet to get the coffer, but the chest is where the thayan scroll is found. if you open your inventory when the campaign window is open (where you can see "study thayan scrolls" , "Unlock Valandras Tower" etc, you should see the currency (scrolls, scrips, sparks, etc). If you have a cipher. you can start on the "study" stuff.
That's about as much as I can help you without knowing more about what you've done or not, it sounds like you just never grabbed the gauntlet (as that's required in this tutorial; part of the quest chain)
I followed everything as was intended, months ago. The problem is the scroll never dropped from the chest in DS. Now I'm stuck on the new day quest, which requires "Study Thayan Writings" to progress. Without some other way to get it, or the devs fixing it somehow, that toon just can't do anything in Dread Ring. Sure, I can buy keys, and kill random things, but there's no point to it. The keys only pull junk, and not much point killing when there's no mission to complete.
Oh well. Too bad they can't just reset the area missions, like I never started there. I suppose I'll just have to import gear, and do without the boons.

Do you not have an HR character on live at all then?
Assuming that your problem can't simply be solved by importing your "real" ranger because you don't actually have one.
Keeping up with the campaigns on a character that exists only on preview in addition to whatever you put into your live characters seems unnecessarily onerous, even without bugs.
I do have one on live, and will most likely import her at some point. It's that the one on preview was my full out tester, and also has a number of bound items I don't want to have to re-aquire for testing, as well as a large number of trade bars, for future purchasing/testing. With so little available at most times on preview, I can't justify deleting, but dislike having a test toon I can't really test with. In the long run, it's no big deal, just a bit of a nuisance.

I see. I can understand about the bound items and trade bars.
I've not max-levelled a preview-created character and generally anything I want to test, I do with a fresh copy in order to keep things like equipment and campaign progress current.
One thing that has bothered me about preview is that you have to have an open character slot in order to create a new character, and you're limited to the default two slots, which is ok as long as you can keep deleting copied characters in order to make room. But it should probably be like retraining and be a free unlock for testing purposes, since there are a number of good reasons to want to keep a preview character around, such as going to the trouble of accumulating a bunch of resources you don't have access to on live.

This is something only a GM/dev can fix.
