i don`t understand the lore or reasons why we have to go kill nashers etc.
i don`t read the scroll things or anything.
but why we need to kill hundreds if they kill one of us.
i just don`t understand it.
or a crown that get s stolen and what do we have to do. kill kill all that crosses your path to get a material back.
what do i mis ?
if someone could explain in real short.
mobs don`t even agro when walking near them at start, so why o why ;p
shouldn`t there be more reason
they actualy seem kind letting take care of our wounded ;p
Essentially, it goes with the basis being that you support the City and of course in connection the King. The Crown is not just a crown also. It is most likely a magical item capable of much more than just being worn. But what it could do, we do not know. But it was being protected by in my own opinion a horrible weakling of an undead guard. But I digress... So you go after the thief's whom turn out to be the Nasher's. The Nasher's are also a violent gang of ruffians who said they would rather stab your mum in the gut than let her go out to buy some bread for dinner. Like a right minded supporter for Neverwinter and King, you said "How dare you think of stabbing me mum in the gut. I will stab you first." From there, you tend to toddle forward slaughtering Nasher's left and right. Hopefully having a right good time of it all the same.

Lord Neverember is not originally from Neverwinter - he is from Waterdeep IIRC. He came to a Neverwinter that had been mostly destroyed by a disaster and overrun by monsters. He and his men took back one section of the city - now called 'Protector's Enclave' and installed himself as king/lord protector. The Nashers are a group that does not recognize Lord Neverember's claim as ruler, and actively oppose him. They believe that the crown is enchanted/has a curse that it will kill anyone who isn't the true leader of the city and tries to wear it, (which is why they claim Neverember isn't wearing it). I'm not clear on what they intended to do with the crown once they had it, but they basically took the Blacklake district of the city as their turf and terrorize the people that live there, by the point you are sent in to handle the situation.

ok guess i`m having a hard time understanding it because i`m not a nationalist or socialist in real life also.
have they at least send someone to blacklake first to talk with them ?
just killing all on your way wouldn`t turn out good in real too.
i know i`m thinking too realistic in a fantasy world.
but if those undead are so kind to let take caree of wounded we wouldn`t be any better then them if we just go slaughter all on our way whenever we`re threatened or stolen from.
in that way it would be better to have valindra as queen in neverwinter.
guess it would make sense if those first mobs agro.
and there must have been some kind of debate first. or at least nashers should have done the first shot before destroying them.
did they actualy harm anyone before we came in and wipe them out.
When you first encounter the Nasher's they attack you on sight. No conversation options at all.
Lastly, this is just a game. We have very limited options to actually engage with the game at hand. Rarely do we actually get to role play out of problems at hand.

Ok, do this - walk into the area. Find a group of Nashers and approach them. Say in local chat that you want to negotiate the return of the goods they stole from the previous inhabitants, and that you're looking for some thieves that stole something from the castle. Watch as they attack you immediately, and be sure to avoid the patrols of wererats and tar zombies that wander around the area.

If only I had a tazer in this game. Cause I would totally taze them Nasher's. Turn on the Super Nanny and watch them drool into the carpet. {ps... if you didn't know. That was a quote from Iron Man 2}

Actually Neverwinter took the odd side of the coin with the battle for the crown.
Neverember is a vile piece of...yeah. He is often called Lord Evilember by those who have read up the lore beyond what happens in the game.
Basically Lord Neverember came to Neverwinter on a high horse but rotten intentions. He 'saved' the city but is a nasty racist who is basically saying since he spent money to repair the city he should be worshiped as a god among men. Just think of everything you wouldn't want for a king and that's what he embodies.
The Nasher Loyalists are...well, loyal to Lord Nasher. You know the most beloved Ruler of Neverwinter. The same one who made an appearance in Nevewrwinter Nights. The Nasher Loyalists are basically claiming they have a true heir of Lord Nasher's and since Neverember feels threatened he basically calls heresy and decides to commit mass murder.
As you can tell...I am not fond at all of the direction Neverwinter took with Neverember. He could very easily have been the a secondary villain in the game and honestly I wish they'd let me stick a knife into his back.
But long story short: You are killing Nasher Loyalists because Lord Neverember is a greedy pile of trash.
Who knows what the future may give us. We very well could get that glorious deed in some far unseen quest. Or we could simply choose to do away with the Writer that wrote this story in a Monty Python fashion and be done with it and move on to better places. Like Camelot! On second thought Camelot is a boring place. Lets go somewhere else.

yes i noticed
about they attack as first, but not always if they aren`t quick enough and we do.
but then there is that first part where undead are still better then nashers and neverwinter players ;p
Basically Lord Neverember came to Neverwinter on a high horse but rotten intentions. He 'saved' the city but is a nasty racist
hahaha
would be nice if something changes in the future to be able to make part of the nashers and fight neverwinter, or just as unsocial outlaw who takes up agains`t all. with debating also.
but ok before getting wild i still don`t understand why the undead just stand around at start.
i know they function as target dummies, but it doesn`t fit in the story.
unless valindra controlls them and she`s having tea or something.
or i mis something, i don`t know.
Even if Neverember is rotten (I'm not familiar with his lore) that doesn't make the Nashers any better. One of the first quests you get comes from a private citizen they robbed. They're aligned with a pack of wererat bandits and if you follow the Rogue quests to the end, they're led by a mindflayer. Just because a group of brigands is opposed to a tyrant doesn't make them heroic.
"We have always been at war with Dread Vault" ~ Little Brother
that would be a nice race a mindflayer, hehe or class.
just reading on wiki it dates from before i was born ;p
closely, but still hahaha.
i`m from 1975. link
would be nice to use someones high intel against them.
The Nasher Loyalists are...well, loyal to Lord Nasher. You know the most beloved Ruler of Neverwinter.
Maybe it's not too late for Cryptic to acknowledge their mistake, and create a "The return of the king" mod3 where you help Lord Nasher to dethrone the non-legit Neverember.
One thing that I haven't seen mentioned in this thread yet is this: you as a "hero" are not with halo yourself. You are actually somewhat of an antihero because you willingly perform questionable acts, such as cheerfully agreeing to change headstone carvings in the graveyard and taking the Pirate's side of things in other zones and whatnot.
In D&D players usually choose an alliance: good, neutral, evil. Because this alliance mechanic is not part of the game, it seems to me (so far) that Neverwinter is well-balanced in terms of player character "ethical" standards. If you're aligned to good, then you are simply being duped, if you are neutral then your are simply an opportunist and if you tend toward evil then that's that.
All this and to mention that the story-aspect must be given in as pithy a way as possible so the player doesn't spend all their time reading about what's going on and is able to get into the action quickly. Therefore without a lot of expositional detail a lot of the story is wide-open to individual interpretation.
As for the opening story with the crown and whatnot, it seems to be a quick-and-dirty "plausible motivating factor" for beginning your adventure. This is an MMO, not a novel. (I know: I'm stating the obvious.) However, as was already stated, we don;t know where they will take the overall storyline in the future. Up to now it's all been pretty consistent with the Valindra theme. We may be seeing a "shifting of gears" in the next module and in the end, it may still circle back to the Valindra themes.
When (and IF) they ever decide to to include actual alignment mechanics into the game, I tend to lean toward neutral/evil myself. Muahahahah!
On that note what's the deal with Valindra? Why does she care about Neverwinter at all. She's from Thay and we've all seen how far away that is on the map. Did she go on vacation and the service was awful and this is her version of a customer complaint or is she doing it because she's a whacky undead and that's just what they do? She doesn't seem to be interested in anything but dracolichs and dragons generally I guess but she hardly needs to go all the way to Neverwinter just for that.
i don`t know anything realy about backgrounds, but would love to see different alliances.
i don`t know what delzoun and luskan are and where it`s based on.
if i start think about that i only know i`m fighting against the same people who helped neverwinter ;p
so that wouldn`t make sense to me also
guess i keep it with this for now ;p
i won`t say anything usefull anyway i think.
the explanings were nice to read,
not that it needs to be exactly as it always has been.
hope to see some more stuf of neverwinter ;p
not meant to start a discussion, but i like this over any non free to play.
and also ofcourse over all existing free to plays.

She's not from Thay, she's (originally) from the High Forest and subsequently from Luskan. As for why she's interested in Neverwinter? Your guess is as good any...
A world to defend
A city to protect
innocents to save
"Why?" They ask "they hate you"
We're heroes it's what we do.

Valindra was also the Overlord of the North Tower for Arcane Brotherhood. Her husband was the Arcane Archmage of the Botherhood and he was bent on conquest. She was unstable prior to becoming a lich and has not gotten any better since, so her desire to conquer Neverwinter may be remnants of her husbands desires plus the old Luskan - Neverwinter rivalry. Also the fact she had dealings with Szass Tam of Thay before, and seems to have the assistance of the Red Wizards may indicate that she is working/allied with them for whatever reason they may have for wanting control of Neverwinter aside to further their merchantile operations.

You would have loved my Foundry quest if you had ever played it back during beta.
PVP with multiple pve 'dungeons': players can chose an alliance with Nasher or Neverember, likewise guilds. Open pvp in PE, pvp large scale battles. Something like GG but less gathering supplies and more attacking/defending PE its self. All the fellas (Knox ad so forth) would be bosses/mini bosses and Neverember would be the main boss.
Will never happen.
But would be fun.

Knox's dialogues indicate that he doesn't unquestioningly support the way things are run in Neverwinter, but is constrained by his position. More than once, he tells the PC he's glad they have more freedom to operate outside the letter of the law than he does.

There's also Knox's comments about how he'd like to be able to better support Scar Company's efforts in the Chasm, but he's constrained by what Neverember will provide...
