So we all understand the business model and we all know that means there needs to be a demand for items in the Zen Store.
We are also aware that the AD prices to upgrade mounts are totally out of line with Zen Store prices of account-wide mounts.
Let's satisfy both the customer and PWE.
PWE, keep AD based mount upgrades expensive. If a player wants to milk your product for free, fine. If they are unwilling to support the game financially, they must pay an extreme in-game price for some perks.
For those willing to support the game, please make available mount upgrade tokens through the Zen store. These tokens would be sold at discounted price to bring them in line with other Zen Store mounts. I suggest making the upgrades a little cheaper than the Zen Store mounts because the in-game mounts are not account bound. This would drive more volume. You could also sell an account-wide upgrade to bring the total to that of a purple Zen mount.
There, both sides are happy.

The ability to exchange AD for Zen kind of makes your proposition to keep AD mount upgrades expensive irrelevant.
What Becky said. But still, why not just sell the upgrades in the Zen shop (at an overall discount relative to what they are now to make them more appealing)? That would encourage people to just buy them with Zen instead of taking the extra step to exchange Zen for AD.
How so? You would be buying an account-bound token that sells for less than the in-game equivalent. In-game upgrade token costs (insert AD amount) and Zen store token costs (insert zen amount that equates to less in-game AD amount.)
In order to get the discount, you still have to spend real money. Seems like a no-brainer for PWE. We get a discount but in actuality they are squeezing a purchase out of us that we would not have normally made.
Mounts can vary in price but lets say 3500 zen for an account wide mount. We'll also use the worst case of 500 ad : 1 zen.
3500 * 500 = 1,750,000 ad. For the account.
mount upgrades are 768,000 for the first one, then 2,064,000 for a total of 2,832,000 ad. For one character.
Keeping the mount upgrades expensive in ad serves no point as the only people buying them are those that can't do math.

Not strictly. There are people who have sprung for the mount upgrade in spite of the heavy cost because they really are in love with a particular aesthetic. My argument has always been the more people would do so, and more would buy the slower Zen mounts as well, if the training costs were reduced to reasonable levels.
Um, yeah...because of what Becky said, selling them for AD would be redundant, but I was agreeing with you on selling them in the Zen shop at a discount. Maybe it wasn't clear that that was what I meant?
Here's the thing. If the tokens cost diamonds, someone could conceivably farm diamonds in game to obtain it. If it costs zen, SOMEONE has to buy that zen. Even if you trade your diamonds for zen, someone paid for it to sell to you. If they decrease the diamond price and make it cost zen, they will guarantee revenue from every sale, and they will ssell more often at the cheaper rate. They also might sell more of the green mounts in the zen shop as an added bonus. Everyone wins, except the suckers who paid 2 mil to up their mounts.
I'm for this 100%. Please add a Zen store mount upgrade token devs. I would like to see my event mounts up to purple rank instead of rotting in my bank.

You found the point.
If its there some people will buy it.
Like a 30k blue Mark of Potency on the AH.
and if you REALLY need that shadow mount @ level 3 ... it's gonna cost you. At least in this system.
Maybe 1 out of 10 who want a purple shadow will invest real $ to get enough ZEN to convert to AD to get enough AD to do this.
But that is real money going around!

I forgot about that, I'm one of those people that would put my toon in the ugliest armor, if it was bis. Those thoughts don't enter my mind most the time.

That's why all I play are Dwarves. They are equally ugly in any armor.

I say add an account mount speed unlock for ZEN. this would set your account to xx% movement for ANY mount you use. I would buy more mounts if I didn't already have a purple. Why would I buy a green when my purple is already available. I would have liked to have a sled but it's green. no point to it. If it was 110% I would have got it. If I want to ride X pet from ZEN store I would buy it if it was 110%. This unlock could be at a character level even. I would be fine with that. I would imagine there are lots of people who won't buy a green mount out of the ZEN store after they got their purple account-wide mount.

With this and an additional inventory bag for mounts (like the companion one) I'd probably dust off a lot of mounts that I already have that aren't getting use from their lack of speed and my unwillingness to throw that many diamonds on just one mount on one character.

No, you don't, because you can convert ADs to Zen and buy things in the store that way.
It's like your idea ignores the entire fact that you can buy Zen using Astral Diamonds using the exchange.

Keep that thread alive if you think it's a good idea. Maybe, with enough feedback, Cryptic will take notice.
