So, this is one of the MANY bugs that have yet to be fixed.
I was doing my normal advertising in trade chat to sell some items. When all of a sudden a window pops up saying I sent to many messages (I know I did), BUT when I clicked to close the window it randomly spent 300k AD and upgraded my crappy cleric companion without asking me to do so...
If that isn't enough to frustrate someone then this next one will be...
I went to log out after submitting a ticket and it tried to upgrade my Ioun Stone to purple when I clicked Exit....
Those are the 2 main bugs bothering me right now. Also, we all probably know about the Market window not working, HRs daily doesn't work right (can still be cc'ed when using it), and the fact that HRs somehow get turned around and are running backwards in the direction you want to go...
I have sent a ticket in already about these bugs and I would love to get some feedback and figure out if there is anything we can do to get my AD back since their game is bugged and didn't ask me to do that, it did it on its own.
Signed, unhappy player.

It sounds like you were affected by a sporadic bug where your confirmation dialogues get offset, so when you take an action that opens a dialogue, instead of the popup you're expecting (and will therefore sometimes click through without really reading), you'll get the one for your previous action. I assume you opened the companion upgrade, looked at the cost, and closed it again, prior to this happening.
The one I get all the time is asking if I want to delete mail when I am trying to return to the character menu.
What has caused this bug in the past is dragging items to the character sheet to equip them, instead of double-clicking. Only happens if the item wasn't already bound to you (because of the "are you sure?" bind warning). In the case of rings or daggers, you can avoid it by emptying the slot where you want to equip the item prior to double-clicking. Companion equipment you can either bind to yourself first, or if it's something you can't equip, just be hyper-aware of your pop-ups after drag-equipping a new item to a companion. Using the equip menu from clicking the slot should also be safe.
If your confirmation messages get offset, the only fix for it is to very carefully exit the program, hitting cancel on every confirmation that isn't getting you out of the game, and relaunch.
Your support ticket should receive a reply (I suspect they're swamped right now, so give it time), but I suspect you won't receive a refund because of the nature of your problem. If you confirmed a pop-up that was asking if you wanted to upgrade your companion, and didn't read it because you were expecting a different pop-up, sadly, you're likely to get an answer that doesn't satisfy your frustrations.
But you can always ask! Providing good details sometimes leads to pleasant surprises.
