This has been a big deal since beta, and apparently, people never learn. You've all seen them: Players find a big mount, then park it half inside the bank and go AFK. This means it can be very hard for the rest of us to reach the bank. I've lost count on how many times I've tried using the bank, only to get the player-menu appear instead. What's worse, I've done some research on this, and many players (always on mounts) stay in the bank for 15+ minutes. You don't need to stay *that* long in the bank - ever. And especially not on a mount. I dunno, sometimes it seems like mounted players want us to admire them, or something. Despite them often sitting on common horses, like it's rare to find a mount like that.
So here's a tip for you: I spent 20 seconds opening the options menu, going to Keybinds and assigning Mount to the middle mouse-button. That's it. Less than half a minute, and now I just need to click a single button to mount and dismount. Heck, you might not even need to do that. I'm a leftie, so my keyboard setup is probably a bit different from yours. (though not by much; I find the WASD-setup near perfect, but how you right-handed people manage is beyond me. I've tried it, and how you reach Ctrl and the number-keys, I don't even want to think about. Using my thumb on CTRL makes a lot of sense, but the pinky? Not a chance, and I'm a guitar player.-)
Anyway, rant off. But please, if you do want to use the bank, please, please, please get off your mount, and *never* go AFK halfway inside the bank. Thanks.

They should turn the area around the bank into a forced dismounting spot, like they do near the AD vendor.

You could just switch to a different instance. I do agree, though, that the areas around the bank, mail courier, and auction house should be turned into "forced dismount" areas, like how the area around Rhix is...

Never had that big issues about that...
Postals, Banks,... got some kind of autofocus so just waiting a second or two and they switch in target - atleast it seems like that to me, so I am very lucky or it is like that.
ppl stay there not cause they want to show off there mount, but working on enchantments , or any there thing to clear there inventory. and also u focus to closely o players , if only u focus on the icon floating on the npc u wldt be bother by other players . well thats what i generally do and it wrks fine for me , try to do different things instead of whining .
btw i hate the auto dismount function , when i ran from gate to ah using mount sometimes the rixs area automatically dismount me which is super irritating

Since you have no idea what a player is actually doing while standing in front of the bank, it feels a little presumptuous to claim they have no "need" to stand there for 10-15 minutes. *shrug*
I know occasionally if there's tons and tons of people around a mailbox there was some kind of issue some had where it could be impossible to get to it or something, but that's never happened to me yet, even when people were practically 20 deep around the mailbox. If someone is covering up the npc, if I just keep my cursor hovered - non-moving - over where the npc should be (it's not like the NPC moves around, they have a static position), there's a half second delay then the mailbox/bank text just pops up "through" people/mounts etc. and I can click with no problem even when I can't see the NPC at all.
ppl stay there not cause they want to show off there mount, but working on enchantments , or any there thing to clear there inventory.
That's pretty much what I'm doing. I have stuff that I store in my bank, and sometimes I want to use some of that stuff and then put some of it or the new results back into the bank when I'm done. Other times I'm just having a difficult time deciding what I want to do with my "stuff", what to keep, what to discard/sell. Sometimes it's 3am and I'm trying to finish stuff while half-asleep, before I go to bed, so my decision processes are working slow. And yet other times I start doing something, my husband calls me, I go away to attend to what he wants, and 10 minutes pass before I get back. It's rare I start out intending to stand there for a long time, it just sorta...happens.
I have several/lots of mounts and use whatever one amuses *me* at the time, not because I think anyone else is going to care that I have a mount. But when you're used to the speed and to using one all the time, it's starts to feel annoying dismounting/remounting every 10 seconds at times, although occasionally I will purposely dismount if I know I'm going to be standing there for a long time sorting and mailing oodles of stuff. But the auto-dismount at mailboxes outside of the one near the AH annoys me, perhaps partly because of the slight delay in remounting for the fancy "mount appears in a cloud of smoke/leaves" animations among other little mount function quirks. So if I just want to check the mailbox to grab one item from a mail and immediately be off again...well anyway, I find *that* annoying. :P
And yeah...rhix's auto-dismount is super-annoying. Altho, if you slowly creep close to him, you can actually talk to him without being dismounted.
In most MMOs from other companies you can toggle the display/not display of other players in town. The main goal is the lag created when a place is packed with people, but it is also very convenient to be always able to click on banks, NPCs, merchants and so on.

Make mounts unavailable in cities/zone starting points and only be available outside. This would also greatly reduce the lag in PE.
PE is big enough that it'd be a real PITA to have to navigate it w/o a mount all the time. If they're gonna disable mounts in PE altogether, then they should at least buff run speed to 110% while in there...

It's worse when somebody goes afk standing on top of the forge where you make the gauntlets in the Dread ring , if they stand in just the right place it is totally impossible to interact with the forge , they should just automatically unmount people at important service locations same as you get unmounted at the wondrous bazaar .

I would query the "most"; as a serial MMOer, I have never seen this. Do you mean "in some specifc MMOs that I have played"?
Also, the OP should learn to use the mouselook and F key, you can always interact with NPCs, even when buried under tons of people. A quick flick of the mouse until the text comes up is all it takes, basic UI skills.

So they can work on their enchantments while on foot.
I might have missed it, but i didn't see anyone saying that no one should be allowed to stand near the bank window for more than 30 seconds.
I would be in favor of dismounts around the bank, the postal courier, and campfire areas and mission hubs in other areas.
All you have to do is press a button once you move out of the area. It's not as much work as it is to try and find the banker or postal courier, or even an occasional merchant through a wall of horses, tigers, spiders, apperati, and whatever else someone might be riding.
Don't want to be dismounted? Don't ride through that area.

every1 avoids that but sometimes u just tap t and just scroll with mouse and accidentally cross that area which is annoying ,and also, if u just move ur mouse properly and use f correctly and viola, u will get no interfence from players but u want everything in ur hand.

I don't mind having a mount inside PE. I do that too sometimes. What I don't like is people really crowding the banks and mailboxes, and then just stand there for a really long time. The banks are the worst, as you can't ride around it and access it from the back or from the side. You have to stand in front of it. It's bad enough when there's a lot of people there, but when they are mounted on top of it, they literally ride halfway into the wall, blocking it entirely for other players. That's what I don't like.
An auto-dismount aura would go a long way to solve the issue, but it won't cure it entirely. What if we simply had another bank in PE? Not another bank-person, but another bank entirely? There are plenty of buildings that can be used s banks, after all. Or for that matter, what if we had a "bank courier" in the starter area of each zone, near the campfire? That way we won't have to go to PE just to access the bank, and it would certainly help to solve the problem.
And no, I don't know what people are doing in the banks. What I do know is riding your horse halfway into the wall, then standing there 15+ minutes, not moving an inch and not bothering to answer a /tell or two is just rude. It doesn't matter if you're clearing out your inventory or not. All I ask is that you can bother to push a single button to dismount, and thus make life easier for everyone. If you know you're going to stand there for a long time, for the love of God dismount!
i think the assumptive title of this thread is a misnomer. players can't be AFK for more than 15 minutes before they are auto-disconnected.
also, there are always more players around the AH NPCs and that doesn't seem to be an issue, so i'm not sure how multiple people around the bank tellers is a problem... mounted or not. i have never been unable to access the bank teller because there were too many people on their mounts there.
even if people were forced off their mounts at the bank, some people would still choose to do inventory maintenance or open lockboxes or whatever they do in front of it.
personally, it doesn't bother me at all. but if it is a point of annoyance for you, there's always the option of changing instances.
A bit harsh for GF players who must slowly walk everywhere.
hahahahahaha its harsh for every1 lol cause PE is not so small that u can travel from 1 corner t other in just 1 min and pretty wasted of time i think if we had to walk and access other things

As I said, you can only access the bank from the front, but you can access the mailboxes, AH and all that from wherever you want. Plus, it's easy enough to find an unused mailbox, or even a different AH. But there is only two bankers, and they are right next to each other, on top of it. Now think about it: If four players on mounts block the two bankers (two on each) by riding halfway into the wall, how are the rest of us supposed to access the bank? Yes, it's technically possible, but most of the time, I end up clicking the player instead of the banker. And that's the real issue here.
Sure, you can't be of AFK more than 15 minute, but that was (obviously) exaggerated quite a bit. What isn't exaggerated is that people do spend a really long time in front of the bankers, and that's been a real problem since beta. I even comment on it then, but, naturally, nothing has been done about it. No worries, I'm used to not being taken seriously. Anyway, an aura that automatically dismounts players will help a lot. So would having more bankers. Those are just two options to solve the problem, but I'm sure there are a lot more. The question isn't really how to solve the problem, but how to get PW to realize there is indeed a problem to be solved.

I really don't see this as a problem. Is it annoying to try to interact with something and get the player menu instead because you hit the interact button too fast? Of course, but that happens everywhere in game. In dungeons, I'm always pulling up player menus when trying to pick up loot or open doors or chests or any other interaction because someone else is running in the way. It's silly to blame them for doing the same things I'm trying to do though, and it's pointless because the game allows you to do what you want to do, even if someone is in the way, if you just wait half a second for the focus to change to the object you want to interact with.
Banks, mailboxes, and vendors all have priority focus. You put your mouse cursor over the position of the object (which isn't hard to discern) and half a second later the prompt will pop up to interact with that object instead of the players. You know the banker is in the window and you can see where the window is no matter how many mounts are there. Even if you don't know exactly where the object is (like loot with a boss corpse over it), just moving the cursor over where it should be will reveal the object by the popup interact prompt. Why all this outcry for solutions that cause problems for other players when there's already a solution in place?
I don't like standing there on my mount. I don't like the fact that my mount changes direction to face the banker or quest giver causing it to cover them. What I find much more disruptive is all the noise caused by people mounting/dismounting, so I prefer people just stay mounted, since I'm not hindered in interacting with that npc in the slightest.
There ARE *two* tellers at the bank, THREE Auctioneers and multiple mailboxes throughout PE. And in the crisis that is lack-of-access from all of those, there is also the instance-changing ability of the game client.
Whenever I run into the over-crowding situation I simply re-maneuver myself, go to an alternate NPC/Mailbox or wait a moment or two for someone else to move. Problem solved.
As for an "auto-dismount" zone around these NPCs: Sure, I'd like to see it, not as a tool or "punishment" for needed-function, but more as a feckin' COURTESY. Whenever I hit-up a campfire or common quest/bank/auctioneer and other NPC I always dismount myself as a COURTESY to others around me.
I personally find people who are too feckin' lazy to dismount in these situations to simply be rude SOBs. But that's about it. People will be rude, that's life, we deal with it.
i have never had a problem with accessing bank and mailbox when tons of people
in front of me. you just get near it and look directly at it which will allow you to
access it, regardless of how many people are in front of you. lol
they or i shld say i wrk near bank cause i want to transfer many things from inventory to bank either in guild or in personnel bank . as u know u cant use refinement process in guild slots so we need to be there.
Again, being there isn't the issue. Everyone has to be there, and no one that I saw was complaining about that.
You can stand at the bank all day and all night if you want to, I just don't want you to do it while on your horse (or spider, or bear, or....).

Crowded, mounted or otherwise, I've never had any trouble pulling up the bank/mail/AH interface instead of a player. Occasionally someone might get right under my cursor as I'm clicking so I'll get their menu instead. Hit spacebar and try again.
The one and only time I've seen such a crowd that it was actually difficult to interact with the intended object was when a player was giving away keys to people who initiated trade with him. Now that was a crazy mob. And it was still entirely navigable if you had a steady hand and a little patience.

Well I personally don't find it to be rude, because I understand why some people may not like to dismount at times. Different definitions of rude, different playstyles, different thresholds of patience tolerance. I guess my threshold is pretty high.
but when they are mounted on top of it, they literally ride halfway into the wall, blocking it entirely for other players.
But as I and other posters have mentioned, it's not actually "blocked entirely." The game has a method for being able to click through the players. If you run up to the bank and see the backend of a horse sticking out of the wall, don't try to immediately click. Put your cursor over the teller window for a second or two and wait for the prompt to show up instead of the player's name and then click/hit F/whatever. It takes all of about 2-3 seconds, which is no more inconvenience than someone having to take 2-3 seconds to dismount, then another 2-3 seconds to remount.
Another helpful thing is to change the Options so that non-partied people's name only show up when "targeted," or "never," so there aren't as many green names visually getting in one's sight.
As mentioned only one mailbox (the main, original one) doesn't have an auto-dismount feature - but at least that means there's that one option for mounted players to ride to and use if they absolutely don't want to be dismounted. If you auto-dismount the bank, there is then no option. They could create another bank area, perhaps. One with auto-dismount, one without. *shrug*

Why in the world do you dismount on a campfire? Players don't have collision and you can walk right thru another player. What difference does it make? I also have never actually had a problem talking to a banker and or anyone else in the game so I think this thread is mostly hyperbole.
