I think you must paint the whole piece of gear with blessed gold, then take regular paint and put it in specific places where you want them. In other words, dye pack paints all three spots - basic, secondary and accent. Dye bottle paints only one of these.

Dye comes in 2 forms - dye bottles and dye packs/kits. Dye bottles allow you to choose which area, (primary, secondary, or accent), to apply the dye. Dye packs/kits are pre-arranged combinations of 3 colors, and you do not get to select where each color gets applied.

    Hope that help!

Yup, you can use a dye pack on an item (in this case to get the base gold) and then use dye bottles to cover parts of it.

This is correct. The only thing to add to this is to click the various options to make sure the area you want to change is highlighted, as the look of the object in the preview pane when you first put the bottle in does not necessarily correspond to the final look you will get. By changing between the three options (basic, secondary and accent), the preview pane updates to show how the item will look if dye the bottle is used when that option is selected.

to cover every single part with gold, for that same piece of gear, paint it three times but at a different place: basic, secondary and accent.

you should get a pure gold colour in that piece of clothing.

Except there isn't a gold dye bottle, just the dye pack which isn't pure gold.

Lets say, for example, you wanted black with gold accents. You would apply the blessed gold dye pack to give you the gold accents. Then apply black dye over the primary and secondary colors. The result will leave you with a solid black armor with gold trim.

One warning, dye can often change color greatly depending on what material type you put it on. Black might look great on cloth, but not so good on metal or leather. And you cant even trust the preview image all that well due to lighting issues. Before wasting any dye. Its always best to use the preview shard to test things out.

If you find it just wont look like how to want it to, at the very least, you can recoup what you spent on dye on the AH. Rather then just wasting and not liking it. Leading you to spend even more to cover it up.
