I've recently purchased more ZEN because the last time I played (several weeks ago) I had spent a lot on enchanted keys to open a stash of lockboxes I'd accumulated.

No sooner had I purchased more enchanted keys with my ZEN that more lockboxes were being dropped thick and fast.

One question I would like to ask you guys is do you open all of your lockboxes? After all, this game is essentially a FTP with a 'pay as you go' option for those who want cosmetic benefits. Forgive me if I'm missing something here, but with the cost as much as it is to purchase enchanted keys, this game can quickly become very expensive if you opened every single lockbox dropped by the game. Using AD isn't much of an alternative either, as AD to ZEN conversion rates are pretty poor.

I don't open them at all. Well, I might have opened a couple when I started playing. Just for the heck of it.

Its nothing against this game, or lockboxes in general. I've been burned by random stuff like this before. Its just not for me. I am content enough that they made it so the lockbox items can be put on the AH. So I can buy the drops from them that I really want. And the game continues to get support from those willing to buy the keys.

Once in a while, I get an urge to open a few. I try to spread out my spending, and to-date I have yet to get anything that wowed me. I have one character that I use to open them, and they have something like 350 trade bars as a result. Either way, they are here to stay, but for the most part, I ignore them.

I go in spurts, ignoring them for a while, then having the gambling urge and will open several at once. Combo of Zen-bought keys and using AD on the AH to get keys. Definitely liked Nightmare ones more. Am mildly curious about the upcoming one.

But no, I don't even come close to opening every one that drops for me, considering they drop constantly. I may have more disposable income than some (and less than others), but that would be pretty ridiculous to attempt to do unless one's income is in the realm of Oprah or something.

The reason why the Feywild Box is getting the boot is because so few of them are being opened. The rewards just aren't worth it. Opening Feywild Boxes is a losing proposition. It's just like going to the casino and dropping in $1.25 on a slot machine that only pays out 70%. If you play long enough you are never going to win. The rewards from the Nightmare Box are much more desirable, even the minor ones, so you can resell them if you want on the AH and try again on another box to try to get the mount with only a small loss. The loss on the Feywild Box is so severe that you can't churn. You just take a huge loss and are stuck with things no one wants. I churned Nightmare Boxes until I finally got the mount. Was it worth it? Depends on how much time you want to put into churning. It took probably 20-30 hours to churn that much stuff without taking a huge hit on reselling. You're much better off just buying what you want from the Auction House and let getting the mount be the headache and financial loss for someone else.

    Anyhow...

I've opened 315 Nightmare boxes. (Mount odds 1 in 315).
    I've opened 0 Feywild boxes.

I've noticed that on Star Trek Online the top prize was 1 in 250 until the last box which went up to 1 in 333.

Nightmare mounts sell for $24 USD on the AH. Why spend $354.38 opening boxes yourself to get one?

Gotta say I'm mildly amused by the sales pitch in the game news. "Quick, last chance to get more Feywild boxes to open! Because a better box is coming soon!" :D

...wait, if the new box will be better, why would I want to open the current one?

saving nightmare lockboxes was profitable because they had good drops (Tene/plaguefire) The Feywild boxes aren't going to be worth saving b/c what good comes out of them? Sylvan stag, that's about it lol.

So much fail in one post.

Some people got a mount on their 11th box. Your personal statistic is a very small sample size. Please do not use 1-test subject as evidence to insinuate that you need to spend $354.38 to get a mount using lockboxes.

You can't get a valid ratio off one positive result dude, if I flip a coin 4 times and get HHTH, off that result I can confirm that you only get a tails once every 4 flips. However any idiot off the street can tell me that the average ratio is 1/2.

Get 10 Nightmares out of lockboxes, then we'll talk.

Because when they did the same at the last week of the previous box, everyone got a purple mount with each key.

I doubt they are going to make that mistake this time.
