The association between fey blessing and Will o' the Wisp?

The description of Fey Blessing Enchantment mentions Will o' the Wisp. However, Will o' the Wisp in D&D is chaotic evil in alignment. Why is "fey blessing" associated with such creature?

Cryptic says they have weekly conference calls with WotC about DnD, so clearly it is fine because they said so.

I still can't figure out why "fey blessing" gives you an evil-aligned creature is fine.

Because they said so. They have their weekly conference call, WotC approves everything they put in. If you dont believe me you can look up the devs saying it, here's a mod saying so: http://nw-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?406331-Ask-the-DEVS-on-the-NOCS-PODCAST-Episode-4&p=5148461&viewfull=1#post5148461

I'm not sure whether everything, include the description text in this case, they want to implement needs an approval from WotC or not. Even if so, I still can't think of an appropriate reason to make "fey blessing" and chaotic-evil creature coexist reasonably.

Perhaps the Will o' the Wisp is enslaved via the enchantment, and must aid you as a result.

If so, why does "fey blessing" enslave chaotic-evil creatures? Is "fey blessing" itself evil-aligned, too?

The elves don't seem to have a problem with sending heroes to go wipe out spiders, red caps, trolls, and various other creatures. Perhaps they don't have a problem with using magic to force lesser evil entities to serve them.

I mean, players can take enchanted armor from enemies - even using the literal forearm of a plague creature as a sword, so it's not without precedent...

The spiders, red caps, trolls, ... etc the elves asked us to wipe out were evil and endangered other beings. Therefore there is undoubtedly no problem wiping them out. As for using magic to force lesser evil entities to serve them, that might be an explanation. Thanks.

I'm cautious with everything my character uses because of his alignment so maybe I should let devs elaborate on this for us.

I think you are putting to much thought into this. This is D&D after all. The answer for any and all perplexing questions is ALWAYS......

A fey sense of "right" and "good" is very different than a human sense of those concepts.

. . . . . The alignment system is no more in fourth addition. As well, this is the Forgotten Realms. When dealing with the Forgotten Realms, any creature can be of any alignment/personality - one could encounter a Lawful Good (or good natured personality) Black Dragon in the Realms. One should never take base D&D lore and monsters at face value for most likely, in the Realms, they are different and have their own lore. Wisps are also an avatar form of the previous incarnations of the Goddess of Magic, who also wasn't evil.

Thanks. But The Forgotten Realms wiki says will o' the wisps are malicious fey creatures.

Indeed! When our heroes are sleeping, the will o' the wisps will cut holes in their underwear, tie their shoelaces together, and draw mustaches on their faces with charcoal!

By this logic, I can't wait for my Lawful Good Orcus companion because hey, Orcus could decide to be good and want to be my pet.

I'm not sure 'good' is really defined by 'okay with genocide of creatures known to be evil'. It is pretty clear that nothing less than genocide what some of those elves would be happy with. And remember that quest where you go into kobold homes and murder the ones tending nests? Those guys aren't exactly aggressors... they're doing what any of us might do to defend their children from a crazy invader. Not to mention that stabbing a vendor in town is going to get YOU jailed, no matter how much he overprices his goods and hates charity.

So if we accept that sometimes the good guys think with things other than their swords, then maybe it's not a big deal that they're getting help from someone who may well be evil. It's not exactly evil to take information from informants to go after the crimelords, after all. Just so long as you use that information for good and don't become so friendly with the guy that he talks you into becoming the new crimelord.

Why would you compare Orcus, a single character when what was mentioned was that not every creature of a race necessarily shares the same alignment as others of its kind... As for this thread I'm not really as interested in being that picky so I'll probably stay out of it :D

There are dark fey after all, so they Fey Blessing enchantment could easily be an evil enchantment. Please don't ask me why this would be a reward in Sharandar.

The same reason that redcap or fomorian weapons are a reward?

That makes sense. Now we really need an official word from devs to confirm that.
