We more or less have that already, though obviously the most important type of cheese would be used as a search term along with the filtered options
Time - filter option already in
Zone - already works off player's geographical location (can also be set as a preference in the Description field)
Tag - filter option already in
Cheese - type preference in the "Description" field.
I realize Time (poorly) and Tag are already filters. I was attempting to 1) improve Time filtering, 2) introduce Zone/map filter, 3) simplify and "in your face" one-stop filtering for users who, the majority, will absolutely not "explore" and drop-down menu options to understand what is there and available.
This is "filtering-for-dummies" in essence. When creating UIs and dialogs, one should target about a 4th grade mentality.
I would definitely like to see better Time filtering instead of the poor range (what range) choices now.
I could also see perhaps "Creature Group" (Critter Group) as the "Cheese" column.
Puts the most relevant themes/topics right in front of the user. Would be a very simple front-end, and the back end would likely just tie into advanced search display results.
As I recall, the essence of your contest entry quest is to have the player search for some old books on magic. Guess what quest didn't show up when I used 'books' as a search term. How 4th grade
To hear devs say 'we are watching the tag system to see how things work in practice' makes me lose all faith in them. This isn't rocket science. The behavior of players in Foundry is really obvious, really well-established in many examples from STO Foundry. Furthermore, issues of search behavior and how people interact with an interface are well-studied elements of internet behavior (IE: Amazon, Google, etc.)
In short, Cryptic has absolutely no excuse for NW Foundry to be in the state it is in now.
Amazon and Google are not good examples. In business you pay for placement. A better example would be facebook and other social sites.
The idea of seeing what your friends are playing would really spread plays. IMO cryptic could learn a lot from these sites. If they removed the star system and based it simply on like, good quests would have a much better chance of making it. It would also remove the negativity of 3 stars. How many 3 stars have people gave with a comment such as I really liked that. If the player knew that that 3 star would actually lower your adjusted rating would they 3 star it. Probably not.

It was actually arcane "tomes" being the objectives -- but I shall certainly add books as a synonym.
It also didn't show up when I searched for "tomes" or "tome" or "Tome" -- it apparently (who'd have guessed) is case-sensitive and matches only entire words, so I guess we authors now need to have all word stems and suffixes in our description and/or keyword list. Thanks for making me investigate that -- I never would have thought it would have been that poorly implemented.
(I will also be adding: book, booklet, booklets, tome, spellbook, spellbooks, novel, novels, novella, composition, compositions, script, scripts, manual, manuals, text, texts, volume, volumes, scroll, scrolls, codex, codices, manuscript, manuscripts, and of course, vade mecum, vade mecums)

When I search for "tomes" it is the top of the list I get back; same with "Tomes". I swear you authors need lessons in searching.
And yes, I am well aware it is 'tomes' and not 'books', but given your opinion of the mentality of Foundry players, surely you would make your search description as child-friendly as you think Cryptic should make their UI.

Interesting. I thought perhaps it might be because I used Quick Search and you used Advanced Search, however Quick Search is (now) returning it on lowercase "tomes" as well. Nice to see it is consistent.
Edit: Oh, and I've coded and used almost every sorting/searching algorithm in (and out of) Knuth's "tomes." So, no lessons needed thanks.

Perhaps I don't desire those with child-like intellects from playing my quest. Or, perhaps, I'm just lazy (undoubtedly) and haven't gotten around to updating the description as the search engine is so new.
Yeah, I don't expect authors to have thought about it yet; as you say it is so new. I just hope you all capitalise on it...and if anyone wants any dummy searches done, I am happy to assist.

I like the idea of making some quests "fall off" the tabs after certain criteria are met. But let's not totally remove them from the catalog. Should at least be searchable still. And just because something hasn't been played in X days doesn't mean it won't ever catch on again. For a campaign that has many parts, maybe it only catches on or gets noticed (ie, gets lucky) after the 3rd or 4th part is published, and players think, "Wow, cool, I want to see the whole story from the beginning!" I would suck pretty badly if part 1 of the campaign was no longer available because it hadn't been played in 30 days.
I've said this before and I'll say it again - Adding paging functionality to the Best and New tabs would go a long way to making more quests easily accessible.

But according to Karitr paging would cause extreme lag.

Jaspor, the way campaigns work at the moment, any activity affects all chapters - for example, add a new chapter to a campaign and the whole thing goes into the 'New' tab. As long as that structure remains in place, all campaigns that have activity in any chapter, would mean all chapters linked to that campaign would remain visible.

Things are searchable, always. (If they get out of the beta stage, unless they changed that.)
Best tab works fine though, just as New tab. (When the actual new foundries do show up and not the featured ones. If they haven't fixed that yet.)
