This bug has been present since the start of the game, and is a problem with the architecture of the ingame mail system.
What happens is if you try to delete (or retrieve) an item from the ingame mail, you are vulnerable to any incoming mail which will have the effect of pushing you on to the next message instead of the one you were supposed to be reading.
SO, in consequence you might press delete to an empty or trivial item, but instead the item above in your mailbox insta-opens and is deleted. This can happen after during or before you press 'delete' for the mail, as a result of any incoming message at the top of your
And guess what - I deleted 1.5M worth of enchants because they popped in front of the actual mail I had wanted to delete.
This is the 4th occasion I have noticed things disappear this way, and I still get very formulaic answers about full inventories. I have lost over 2M AD this way that I have noticed and who knows how much that I haven't noticed.
PW please either fix your mail system so it doesn't do this, or start providing bespoke customer service to people who have had major losses due to the weaknesses in your game design.
Thanks

This simple solution would be to have an undelete option (like recently deleted mail).

I havent had this issue yet, but I'll keep an eye out for it. I'm not sure I have a complete grasp of the situation, but here's a suggestion based off of what I perceive to understand:
Why not accept all items from your mail first, then come back around and delete mail later in the day when you're not expecting AH things to expire, or mailing items to yourself?
sucks to hear about that much of a loss = /. Thanks for spreading word about it.

He's talking about when deleting a bunch of emails by rapidly clicking Delete | Okay (you can line the frame up to the popup) that when a new mail comes in, it automatically selects that one rather than the next item in list. And you end up deleting the new incoming mail.
IMO, they'll never fix this and never correct it when it does happen. Basic rule, if players lose AD it gets put on low priority pile. I've lost a lot of AD from skirmish bugs. One, not being able to collect on daily and the other not having AD in chest during skirmish period (but I think they actually fixed that one).

So, patience is a virtue in this case?

Yeah, you have to be careful, especially if you're really active in AH trading. I've never actually deleted an incoming mail, but I've come close. I suppose if you start at the 2nd email and work your way down when deleting that you can probably avoid accidentally deleting new mail. That's only if the new mail doesn't steal "focus" in the list. I'm not sure if it does or doesn't, but when deleting from the top, the new mail also appears at the top.
Easy way of fixing that would be to make it impossible for a player to delete any mail that has items in it untill he / she has claimed the item first.
all good suggestions....err and yes I trade a lot and probably have had 200 million AD pass through my hands, so 2 million might not be a bad percentage....I think the inability to delete any mail with items in it is about the best alternative, though I think it is some weird kind of thing that the system still believes it is on the old item when it allows a new item to be deleted.
These are the precautions I already take, and still lose a bunch of stuff regardless....
1. as suggested above I rarely start at the top email in case, but you still get caught out if its the 4th or 5th mail because everything shunts down one
2. I try to avoid periods when I have already bid recently, because other traders will be overbidding on popular items. But I have an IRL so cant always be on stealthily doing my mail pickups at 4am
3. In future (and in the past until I got lazy) I will use the full address of a specific alt in the mail rather than the overall account handle, which at least halves the probability of it being deleted/opened by accident since it is invisible to other toons
4. I might consider sueing PW since at least 500k of my ADs was bought with real money, and I have all the mod cons paid for like extra tons, mounts, slots and zillions of wards purchased...heh...

Keeping a buffer message and only deleting from below it does seem to prevent "bounce".
I actually have had ADs restored to my account that were lost from this glitch, but I explained very thoroughly what had happened.
