I think players aren't falling for overpriced mounts anymore. I, for one, haven't seen a single new 40-dollar unicorn around, unlike the tiger, which became popular right away.
Because, really, Forty Dollars for a mount...
It also feels rushed. They just added the stag -which is ugly- and the white unicorn -which is even uglier-.
A fiendly note, devs: I used to spend 10/20 bucks a week in your game. I purchased a black medium horse, a hawk companion for wife, I got a Nightmare -a legit Nightmare, not a Lucky Nightmare- and two Phoeras, and I was one of the few legit lucky players to get a Lillend. Nightmare Thursday, bugs not getting fixed but Midsummer garb transmutation addressed as an emergency, people jumping over the gate in Gauntlgrym PvP, Unstoppable activation bug hanging around since Open Beta, are enthusiasm killers.
I still enjoy the game. I play it with wife and friends. I love Sharandar and the Campaign mode. I think the Festival is an amazing event. But I feel disappointed and when I see something I like in the Zen Store -and I also wanted to buy the $20 Feywild Pack because I love huskies and I own one in real life-, I hear a little voice saying: "What's the point?".

Yes. I saw it earlier. It's actually kind dull looking, just like a purple armored horse with a horn, I'd prefer the bright white unicorn with rainbows HAMSTER personally. The armored unicorn is so bland in fact I had to do a double take to make sure Cryptic hadn't released another rehash of the guardian armored horse in purple.
I would purchase it for 40 dollars if it were the white one and acct wide. The dark one doesn't look all that unicorn-ey IMO.
On a side note I thought I saw a white nightmare earlier and I was like " whoa that white nightmare is super cool!", but my colors were just slow loading and it soon turned black.
I also wanted to buy the $20 Feywild Pack because I love huskies and I own one in real life-, I hear a little voice saying: "What's the point?".
And again, 40 bucks for a fricking unicorn?!
The price for the unicorn is just wrong. Nothing should be $40 in this game, especially if it is something as useless as another mount that just takes up more room in your tiny little $10 bag. I was a bit disgusted to see they jacked the price up $5 just because they knew a few people would buy it no matter what. They should have charged $70 because those same people would still buy it. Lol. No one else will.
As for the Portal Hound....I had to pull the trigger on that one because it is just too cool looking. I was surprised because it turned out to be a very nice tanking pet. It is much more useful than the Galub. If they sold an epic version in the Zen store I would buy one for each of my characters for when they solo. I will not pay $20 for the green pet and then another $35 to upgrade it to epic. That is just HAMSTER.
PWE/Cryptic is making money (or I assume they are) but they are not making nearly as much money as they could (IMO). They really need to start lowering the prices on their stuff in the Zen store permanently. Stop trying to suck as much out of the Whales as you can and start making things (almost) EVERYONE would want and put an affordable price tag on it.

That's cryptic. 40 bucks for a pixelated item to me is the mother of all greed. But as I said from the very beginning of this game: people just need to stop buying from the zen store. The more you spend, the ****tiest game quality you'll get from cryptic if you haven't noticed already. They will not care about what you think of their product. Just stop spending your hard earn money in the zen store. At the end, you own a piece of dated pixel because cryptic will replace it in a couple of days/weeks and you will ***** and mourn about it and Cryptic will continue to do what they've been doing.

I saw 3 people riding them yesterday so I guess there's people dumb enough to buy anything. And you wonder why they keep coming out with new zen mounts every week because of morons that would pay 40 dollars for another mount when its already 50 other 110 speed mounts in the zen store.
Unfortunately, as long as there's people that can honestly justify paying 40 dollars for a reskinned unicorn nothing will ever change and this makes me sad because I really like this game and wish it WOULD change and severely tone down the blatant greed and money making schemes and focus on gameplay and bug fixes. to each their own. sorry but that doesn't make someone dumb. it's something they like and if they have the means to acquire it, so be it. it doesn't make you any less of a person because you:
a. can't afford it
b. won't grind/farm for it
c. aren't frivolous with your money
and it doesn't make this game or this company any more of a "moneygrab" because either people are going to buy the items or they aren't. and threads like this don't affect other people's opinions who do not think like you do. and they certainly don't affect the people that avoid these forums.
pwe already reduced prices once on mounts and things. perhaps that will eventually happen again. it's such a great opportunity we all have to vote with our wallets... but as with everything in the retail world, if people will pay high price for fashion, those prices aren't coming down any time soon.
*edit: simplified, if people aren't buying what they're selling then that is more powerful a statement than voicing your continued opinions over and over again in the forums. because as a company, all i have to say is "thanks for your feedback" and then make my price reductions so you can feel like you've accomplished something with your opinion-posting. doesn't mean your opinions don't matter, but it doesn't mean that your opinions are the sole reasons for game-changing business decisions.
It's fine if people want to waste their 40 dollars on a half-assed reskin, but when that money isn't being put toward fixing long standing issues, then yes it's greed plain and simple. I've stated it before, but 40 bucks is about 3 months worth of subscription fee's for a normal MMO that actually supports the players and doesn't have the myriad issues this game does.

until cryptic/pwe publishes their financial details somewhere for everyone to gawk at, your assumption that zen sales don't filter back into the company somehow is just an assumption. 40 bucks might be 3 months worth of subscription fees for a normal MMO but this is a f2p game and there are no subscription fees. but let's take a look at this further... if pwe/cryptic were a subscription MMO and were charging everyone $15 a month and they had 100k subscribers... that's 1.5 million dollars per month. since neverwinter is not a subscription MMO, lets say that out of 100k subscribers, 1000 of them buy dusk unicorn mounts. that's only an income of 40k--and just a one time payout. so this company that must have good and reliable network services for the entire world, not just for north america... and a development team, graphic designers, customer support, management, a sales team, technical support... all of these people need to get paid. and the company's goal is to make a profit. so if that's greed then all companies are evil and must be stopped.
or people should realize they aren't entitled to anything and stop demanding something for nothing.
as for these long standing issues... you do not know why these issues have not been addressed. you simply assume that they don't care about them. you take their stance of silence as some kind of negative statement instead of what it most likely is: they have not resolved the issue to their satisfaction. there are plenty of threads in here where devs thank us for our feedback but they don't provide anything else.
and yeah, some things are really annoying like getting your face squashed in pvp because your tab button stopped working. 90% of the time (for me anyway... ymmv) it works. so i have to die. it's a game. cryptic devs didn't go on strike. they didn't say they're quitting or they're stopping working on the game or new content. it'll get fixed. when that is... there is no timeline. you either roll with it or you go away for a month or two months or forever... whatever fits your scenario.

Noone would say a word if this game was perfect or at least without major gamebreaking bugs. But when game is in a miserable state, when dungeons are a set of bugs and if u dont exploit u r fighting not the content, u r fighting billion of bugs, then u should not HAMSTER on ur players head with updating cash shop every 3 days while other content remains broken as hell. And this prices... I have played about 10 big title MMOs and to imagine these companies (with a much more reliable reputation) would place that overpriced content ... it's not a shame, it's an epic fail. Enjoy the dusk of this game. End of the year will bring end of the game.

it's been said time and time again that the group that fixes bugs and the group that puts out new content are two separate groups. so the dusk unicorn hitting the zen shop did not have anything to do with something not getting fixed. in a development group, there is usually a list of bugs by priority. some bugs have easier fixes than others. is it better to fix things there are fast solutions for or fix nothing trying to figure out why my tab key isn't working 5% of the time?
trust me... all the things you want fixed will be fixed. eventually.

What's expensive to one person isn't always spendy to another. The mounts are pretty high priced though, that's why I just got the Feywild pack. It gave me some extra goodies.

Name one MMO, in the history of MMOs, that would be considered "perfect or at least without gamebreaking bugs". Hell, name a single one month period in any MMO where everything was perfectly balanced and without bugs.
I swear, this game has more whiners than any game I have ever played and I have been playing MMOs since Ultima Online in the 90's. Everything from so called PvPers, who complain endlessly and threaten to quit because their uber toon got nerfed a little bit and died in 100% ZERO consequence PvP to reskinned mounts. I have honestly never seen anything like this in any game ever. I played Shadowbane for most of the life of the game, and even there the tears didn't flow so freely and that game was riddled with bugs and there were serious, real consequences in PvP, where short term balance issues had permanent consequences! Even pre Tram UO, hailed by many old school MMO gamers as the best MMO in history, had long term balance issues (tank mage, anyone?), constant dupes, ridiculous exploits (making staircases out of gold coin stacks to break into the tops of players houses to steal everything) and a PvP/PK system (best system ever!) that would make 99% of this community quit and cry instantly.
Seriously, what has happened to the gaming community? Who the **** cares if they made another mount?! They release patches every week or so and are addressing issues. When you follow a F2P model, you have to have constant revenue streams coming from purchasable content or there will be no more game. How is this a difficult concept?
and the company's goal is to make a profit. so if that's greed then all companies are evil and must be stopped.

People like you are so blind it's unbelievable (I'm not trying to insult you). You have to ask does the work put into the mount justify the price they charge. For that price you can get a full buy it once game, or I've even say guild wars on offer for half of that. So you're telling me the effort to make a mount is comparable to a full game? No, it completely isn't and they are taking advantage of the ones that do support the game. Also inventory space is a scam, $10 for more inventory space which is no effort at all to increase yet with the space runes, enchantments and shards take up and with 10 levels, it's extremely difficult to find space for everything. That I don't have a problem with, they do need to make it attractive to buy space, but I do not condone them charging a ridiculous amount for it. What I do like is that people that don't pay can get a lot of value from this game, but people who support cryptic get exploited. They don't need to make thir money just from single purchases, they need to make people keep buying stuff like with different outfits (fashion inventory space pl0x) wards (overpriced in zen store), lockboxes (people have opened many hundreds with no mount, that's a lot of money...).
I actually did support them with some stuff because I did like this game, if I knew beforehand what the prices were like, I would have dodged it like the plague. It's not even just zen prices out of whack, it still costs more to remove enchantments than to replace it with a new one. That to me just says that they're clueless. Especially when they looked at it with a minor cost change and went, right sorted! The pricing issues aren't a tiny bit out of sync, they're massively overpriced. Even respeccing feats costs more than a retraining token. If you can justify the cost, then that's your decision, but don't act like they are not taking advantage of their customers.

This game isn't any other game, its Dnd and people that love DnD expect perfection. When I first started playing, i had no idea what DnD was but then I fell in love with the MASSIVE amount of potential this game has/had and like many other people HATE how it's turning out.
If they're having money problems might I suggest getting rid of useless employees or the 100's people in charge of making/reskinning zen items? Not like the ONE person(i heard) in charge of fixing bugs/exploits needs new 40 dollar reskins every week to work harder.
If I was in charge of this company it WOULD be the best mmo ever. All they have to do is READ the lower depths forum, take notes and not listen to the PR department saying "look how much money we made, everything is working fine":)

Goddessunique, let me see if I understand what you are saying. Because you don't want $40 mounts, Cryptic should lay off employees so they have less overhead?
Btw, D&D has never had balance in the classes. Wizards at high levels could wipe out entire cities and roflstomped anything in their way. 4th edition tried to give classic D&D an MMO ruleset. It failed and the new edition is going back to its roots. I doubt you would want a real D&D game. Read any Forgotten Realms book that Elminster is in and tell me that if a player could do those things, the forums wouldn't be on fire with "OMGZZZ!!! H4xXx0rZ!"
All I have to say is, they seem to have no problem releasing new mounts and
items in the zen store, but when it comes to bugs to any degree they seem to
take weeks and months to fix (compared to other games).
Im tired of the excuse "they only have so much man power." You notice how
fast they fixed the AH exploit, and the bugged chests dropping the mount? It was
within an hour.
Clean up the game, than ill open my wallet, no problem.

D&D is hardly perfect. I've played every edition of the game and there have been GLARING issues in every one of them. If anything, what started as an early attempt at medieval/fantasy combat has evolved into a self-referential mess where "character building" involves finding the most effective loophole in the rules that you can and exploiting the ever living **** out of it.
But then, maybe that's the problem. D&D has bred that mindset in its gaming population.
It's not that hard, people. If it's not worth the cash to YOU, don't spend it. And if it's worth the cash to someone else, more power to them. They're playing the game the way they want to. I'm planning on getting a Dusk Unicorn. I'm also planning on not spending a dime to get it, instead opting for AD --> Zen conversion. I've got a goal to work towards, and I'm actually kind of glad that when I get it, it's going to be a rare sight.
This isn't the WoW mindset of "gotta catch 'em all." I like WoW, I still raid there, but I play Neverwinter for a lot of the ways in which it is *not* like WoW.

Consumers complaining with their wallet is the best way to get things to change.
Honestly though, the AH exploit, although I am sure Cryptic did it for less than player concern, could have destroyed the game. This game relies on the ingame economy being somewhat stable to keep sales going. In subscription games, the economy, while important, isn't going to make game not exist anymore if it blows up. It was critical for them to immediately fix that issue.
I think players believe that balancing toons and permanently fixing exploits is just something that can be done on the fly. Balancing without testing it would be ridiculous and that takes time. Because of the nature of this game, with very little end game content and no real PvP content, the developers have to be working on all fronts to keep people playing the game. This significantly minimizes the resources they can throw at non-game destroying issues.
Seriously, I don't get how they say the developers aren't trying to fix things. WEEKLY patches?!?! That's amazing! I have been playing since the beginning of open beta and since then there have been THREE content patches! That's amazing! I think they are doing a **** good job of covering all fronts.
PvPers, as a group, are inherently whiners, so balancing bull**** will always flood the forums. Don't get me wrong, I PvP all the time, but I don't consider myself part of the self proclaimed "PvP" crowd, especially in this game where there is no real PvP. Since the early UO days, I've been a PK. Much less whining from that group and a hell of a lot more fun!
I saw 3 people riding them yesterday so I guess there's people dumb enough to buy anything. And you wonder why they keep coming out with new zen mounts every week because of morons that would pay 40 dollars for another mount when its already 50 other 110 speed mounts in the zen store.

Yea, i gota agree with this. For $20 more you can get the other unicorn, a purple pet, a new fashion set, a character slot, and 600000 AD.

PinkSugar, lvl 60 CW.
Baby Cakes, lvl 60 GWF.

Pink Exxxtacy, Ranger
There is NO pvp in Neverwinter.
H4xXx0rZ!"
items in the zen store, but when it comes to bugs to any degree they seem to
take weeks and months to fix (compared to other games).
Ditto.
I bought one because I knew not many people would do the same so it would be rare...and it would seem that i'm right coz I havent seen another one on beholder yet...(surely they exist), and I don't like being called dumb
