Why is crafting so slow?

I'm just a little curious. Just assuming you do the fastest exp possible (10 min subcombines and 25 minute 50 exp armor pieces), it takes approximately 15 hours to go from crafting level 4 to 5, using one slot. This allows you to craft level 16 armor.

I think I level pretty slow, and got to level 20 in 12 hours. How is this feasible in any way without using (a lot!) of AD to speed up your exp rate?

Using gateway you can also craft when you're out of game. So you can also gain exp that way. Slowly to be sure, but since you're probably going to have to sleep sometime....

Crafting is exceedingly fast, except for Leadership.

Crafting is just about all I do during the week when I don't have time to do much else, so it levels faster than my characters do sometimes. Depends on how you play it and time the tasks; I always set up the long ones to run while I'm asleep.

You don't have only one slot forever. It seems very slow until you get a handle on the mechanics. The more slots you unlock, the easier it is to keep levelling.

I now try to open it up to three slots within a few hours of hitting level 10, by getting the 100% speed bonus from four blue crafting dudes (I use alchemists because I always need the vitriols anyway) and reaching level 3 in any profession. This makes it easier to get a profession to level 10, which unlocks another slot.

I realize the blue dudes are not within the reach of a complete beginner player. My first characters got by with two slots apiece and unlocked the slots for profession level 10 and character level 30 at around the same time. Subsequent characters have had a significantly easier time ranking up professions because I've been investing in assets and sharing them via mail. I also don't usually need to tie up slots for extended periods of time with hiring and training tasks.
