Experiencing lag and using Verizon FIOS? Look here!

Hey all,

We've seen some reports about lag over the past couple of days, particularly from players using Verizon FIOS. We're working on ironing this out!

If you're experiencing this issue, please post your traceroute information (which measures how quickly various connections between Cryptic and you respond) here, by using the following steps:
  • In Windows, hit the start button
  • Where it says Search All Files and Programs, type CMD and press ENTER
  • The first result should be cmd.exe
  • Right-click on cmd.exe and select Run as Administrator
  • A black, command-prompt window should appear
  • From here type the following command:
  • tracert patchserver.crypticstudios.com
Good Results:
  • Values lower than 180 are ideal for playing MMOs (and anything under 100 is outstanding). Higher values usually cause lag and rubber-banding in-game. Report any values above 180ms. Right-click in the Command Prompt Window and select all. Save as a text file (txt).

If you'd like to help out even more, please follow all of the steps in this post as well and add them here.

Thanks so much!

both cryptic and verizon connect at bostons pnap. so i would imagine the problem is in boston.

Is this a Verizon only issue - I have been lagging like mad, I am on the east coast, but I use Brighthouse not Verizon

I ran the test just to see and the jump before the end is showing 480ms, the other 16 are fine - do I report this?

I continue to lag like crazy even after the recent patch. Verizon FIOS on US East Coast here. Has the root of the issue been identified yet? I had a glimmer of hope the first half of the day, as that seemed to be an improvement, but now that evening is upon us the lag is back to unplayable levels.

Lag, in game ping 400-500. After patch, even game windows like inventory, auction house, professions etc, are taking a while to load and appear transparent and incomplete till. Files are as attached. ISP: BSNL, India.

Things were bad on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week for me - character screen lag, unplayable in game, and disconnect problems. Did the Cryptic Net Test and saw terrible results. I'm on FIOS in Massachusetts. I thought the problem was resolved last night. Played all night with no issue. Just jumped on tonight and back to the same problem. Praying this gets resolved. I'm getting very frustrated!

Please let me know if there is anything that I can do to resolve this on my end - doubtful...

I am still having major issues and cant play as you can see my nettest is horrible! Every other thing I do on the net is perfectly fine plus I had verizon double check everything and they told me everything was good. These results are coming from a 80mbit line! No doubt this is a cryptic problem.

Hello all, i think it has everything to do with the game it self.. I don't know what you guys have done in the last upgrade but after that moving in enclave/town it is horrible..I move if i have been drinking a whole weekend, bumping into everything, been frozen, etc etc in other words extremly l.a.g. So maybe you can look into that and search what is giving that lag!

The login, gateway, booted from game due loss of connection to server, etc. continues. I am not on Verizon. Tracert times to the patch server have been 600ms +

Also having issue myself since the patch. prior to path only lag I saw was in the market areas, and minimal at best. post patch the AH Area is almost unplayable. I get random drop when im talking to vendors.

Using Qwest West Coast. latency doesn't look very decent, but most of the bad times are on this Savvis ISP on the east coast (I have no control over that)

hello, after this newly updated patch you had last time makes the game lag, i am experiencing this very unstable ping and it's very spiky, i cant even play anymore not like before.. actually my ping is usually ms 200++ but with that ping i enjoy playing this game and even having a little delay compare to others, but this was not the problem, i am having this received packets very unstable as i observed while playing and always got server not responding.. i know it has something to do with the new patch... hope to fix it up soon... thanks..

The high pings still appear late in the route.

I can't figure out if this is just something I hadn't played long enough to notice before last week, or it actually just began last week. I guess I've been playing around a month now.

While waiting for my newest CrypticTest to run (it takes forever when the slowdown hits) I did a search for border11.te7-1-bbnet1.bsn.pnap.net and I get mostly tracerts on game forums with it giving high pings. Star Trek Online, League of Legends, etc.

Looks like they're a cloud hosting company... is that incidental or is the game "renting" from them? If so, looks like maybe someone needs to make a phone call.

Is there any update on this problem?

I wanted to buy more game cards before the special ends but if I can't play smoothly any time but like 4am, there's not much point in doing so. :(

The game ran great the first couple weeks.

I'm having the same trouble. This happened to me like two weeks ago for 3 days and then all of a sudden it was fine. Now it's happening again.
