This morning I took a look at the new Fey Wild Knights Pack. Much to my total lack of surprise, it was priced at ~$60USD for a handful of content. This afternoon, I see there is a ghost and some other stuff newly available and I didn't bother looking into it. Not going to bother at all. Why? Every time, for the past 6 months, that I look in the zen market, I see that everything is priced beyond my reach.
I can pay less than $60USD for a complete game. Why should I bother to pay $60 for a tiny expansion? So I can play the same quests over and over again with different character visuals? No thanks.
As a matter of fact, there are so many free to play games that I can play entirely for free and get the equivalent of a complete game with a lot more variety than any one game will ever give me, and all for free! I can have a lot of characters each one a unique experience! You can't get that in any one game no matter how much you spend and I'm getting it all for free!

If the game was working 100% or even 95% i would think about buy this. But at this point in time I would never spend another dime on this game. I mean come on.
Thats youre opinion. Im actually going to buy it. It offers more bang for the buck then the guardian pack. Its overall value actually gets better the more characters you have.
It's not new content, it is the laziest additions you can ask for, come on, 2 more elves? How lazy is that.
And yet, there is endless complaint that one of these "lazy additions" won't be available to all. It seems that many rabidly want at least one the new elves coming out.

But, does it offer more bang for buck than a complete game for the same price?

Pretty **** lazy....they did this because they can cheap their way out of making new player models.. cheap out of new animations, cheap their way out of making armors fit a new race.
All they have done is changed the color palette of the skin and slapped a new name on it. I see better quality stuff in Skyrim user mods that are FREE.
How many models in this game are just 2 pre-existing 3d models that the devs duct-tape together to call it a new model? To many to count.
I feel like it does when the stuff that it adds goes with a complete game that I got for free.
What you get for free are 2 character slots, and all the quests made available. Then you pay $59.99USD for a few more things to cram into the same 2 character slots so you can repeat the same quests again. Why bother when you can just go play another game for free and get fresh content for free, and not have to erase your 2 old characters for 2 new characters that are going to do the same exact thing with all over again?

The pack does come with another character slot as well, and I already have another slot purchased with the AD -> Zen conversion so that is 4 character slots, 2 empty for the 2 new races. Plus an epic mount for all of my characters and another 600k AD. I think it is worth it.
Not to mention I enjoy this game, why would I spend time looking for another game that I might or might not enjoy as much.
You must understand that PWE and Cryptic have employees whose job is pricing things. They do a ton of research. They run the numbers. They come up with a price that will earn them profits and make it worth it for them. They don't just pull a number out of the air. If it's too expensive for you, okay fine. I'm sure they know there are millions of folks who won't buy it but they took that into account too.
I will never forget the outrage in that other MMO when they decided to offer a mount for $20. Players were outraged, incensed, angry, etc. They took to the forums, declaring no one was stupid enough to spend $20 on a limited edition rainbow sparkles pony (or whatever the heck it was). Occupy Azeroth! Rargh! ...and then it went on sale and they sold 1.2 million of the darn things. "No one ever went broke" etc. etc.
But, does it offer more bang for buck than a complete game for the same price?
Nope.
F2P is a joke and devs laugh all the way to the bank with this nonsense. There is a reason why F2P dominates say Google Play in the Top Grossing bracket, because people delude themselves into believing it is worth it and/or believing the word free justifies ridiculous pricing models for what should be core mechanics or cheaper priced items.
Edit: shakabrakabra, it's not about what the devs feel is fair. It is what is fair to you as the consumer and can you argue that spending multiples of a AAA title release for piece mailed content is fair? However you spin it, you spend more for less.

4 character slots and the same old quests and classes and items, plus a handful of new stuff that is not really all that new, I do not think or feel that it is worth $60. I can get more for my $60 elsewhere, and still play here for free, and not miss a thing other than a handful of new minor visuals that don't impress me much.
You spend your time as you see fit. I personally don't have much trouble trying out a free game.
I usually allocate ~$10 a month to F2P games that I'm playing actively. Most games I spend $10 on don't last a month (there are exceptions); MMOs tend to last several though unless they suck. Lots of MMOs suck. This isn't one of them.
Games I spend $60 on... tend not to last a month. v.v I don't do that so much anymore. I mostly wait until they go on sale.
...there is basically no chance that I'd save up 6 months worth of zen for this pack though. n.n

A typical single player game nowadays has, what, 20-30 hours of content? I play pretty often, and even then my new 60's have a /played time of about 40+ hours. While the main quest chains are the same for all characters, there is a smattering of class and race specific quests as well. I have 1 of each class at 60, and the experience to get there has been different enough to keep me playing.
What does this boil down to? It means that value is subjective - considering there's no sub fee and the game is still being added to, $60 isn't bad at all. Most single player games I tend to put down once I beat them.
The best part, though - unlike those other games, you can still play this one w/o spending a dime! How can people gloss over this fact so easily?

If you think it is too expensive then don't buy it.
I follow that wisdom like a champ!
That's nice and all but, some people, like myself, get annoyed when they put this HAMSTER out, instead of fixing the game and making it worth playing. Some get annoyed when people throw money at a company that does nothing but reskinning.
People want more content, not just this extremely late feywild junk.
Free free free free free. You realize that if you don't ever pay anything at all for any game, eventually there will be nothing beyond small indie games to play? Sure there are some great games out there that are solely the product of a person (or small group's) artistic passion, but most games on all platforms still exist to generate revenue for their creators.
You're able to play this game and some others for free because some players are paying. Something the scope of an MMO, or most things involving multiplayer just can't be done or maintained if the entire player base refuses to pay for at least some aspect of the game.
I do think the prices in this game are outrageous, so I'm reluctant to purchase anything, but you can't blame them for charging something for their work.

If you started playing NWO because of the PvP i suggest looking into "Smite".
If you started playing NWO because of DnD or PVE reasons........lol
the reason you play then?

There is a market plan behind this game. They didn't make it free to play as charity.
The thing is, there are free to play games that have earned more than their equivalent subscription games.
How is that possible?
Being free the advertising for the game lasts longer. The longer an individual plays this games, the more chance is he will eventually flip up his wallet for it. The majority has the reasoning that they will "support games they like" (especially when they get cool items for it).
More people give it a try, their friends hear about it. One of the most played games that year? Even more publicity. More people = more money.
Advertising for other products or companies in-game.
Increased individual money spending. One individual does in some cases pay for two.
People will accept more HAMSTER, which means they can spend less money on fixing that HAMSTER.
And probably more sleepy minu is missing.
If we are to judge from F2P games on cell phones, then they will soon make more money as a rule, than subscriptions. Perhaps they already do, I am not that educated on that area.
Do not pity cryptic and give them your money before they at least take care of the game breaking flaws.

The price of the pack is probably more based on an estimate of what people are willing to spend vs how much they would earn by selling at a lower price with more buys.
Meaning; the price is pushed to it's limits for the company to drag out every single penny they can from a sale. It's not a price based on company survival.

Hail to the king!
If you started playing NWO because of DnD or PVE reasons........lol
I know right, good thing its only the 2 elf races that are being added and not anything else...oh wait..
Well it's clearly not worth the money either way.
Noted. Original post edited.

You can't buy the Feywild pack with Zen or AD.

Does this hypothetical, "other game," allow you to play in the Forgotten Realms (specifically the Neverwinter region) ?
