That begs the question: how many variations on that name do we think exists on both Neverwinter and DDO servers?
I'm thankful that it is only names in this game. Champion Online has hundreds of Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America, Superman, etc... Even... Finn the Adventurer!!! And now that I'm thinking about it, the customization options in this game prevent Finns from showing up everywhere (though I may soon have a Finn character myself, though he'll be more based on my STO character than any weird cartoon animation).
*sings* "I like Gammera! He's so neat!!! He is full of turtle meat!!!"
"Hah! You are doomed! You're only armed with that pathetic excuse for a musical instrument!!!" *the Savage Beast moments before Lonnehart the Bard used music to soothe him... then beat him to death with his Fat Lute*

Good point, lol. Playing CO must have been a /facepalming experience seeing names like "Captn America", "The Hulllk", and "Batmannn".

Names I can handle. My facepalm experiences came from the costumes. From being nearly accurate to being really cheap ripoffs of the more famous characters. Yes, we'll see lot of Elminsters, Dizzts, that guy whose name is the misspelled word "Newbie" (from Baldurs Gate), etc... but no matching costumes of them (for instance, Elminster's hugely brimmed hat if my memory of Baldurs Gate serves me right)...

So wait now that I already play, I can't add a last name? I must create a new character?
You can add one, but youll have to buy it. Somewhere at the top of your character sheets are things you can buy like name, character look ect changes. Idk how much zen they are but it wont be dirt cheap. Id guess around 100-200k ad to buy the zen.

Nothing wrong having Finn named character.
(yes, my 1st character, GF is named Finn. I had no idea what 'Finn the Adventurer' is...Finn is just so darn cool and manly name.)

the one thing that bothers me greatly is that players are very unimaginative when it comes to picking names for their toons. everyone picks names from books, tv, ... instead of creating their own name.
May all-father guard you steps.

Dagnabbit, now I have to delete one of my alts, called Svegurok Bloodbeard.
I bet some players use the names of famous individuals (fictional or otherwise) in hopes of invoking their power while playing. Such as naming your character a variation of "Chuck Norris" in an attempt to invoke Omnipotence... Only to be delivered a curb stomping defeat by a character named "Bruce Li".... or is that Bruce Leah... oh, nevermind... -_-

I use Drizzt Do'Urden as examples because it is the unoriginal name example. Anybody who is going to use it already would without any nudge from me.
However that is not what this thread is about so please keep comments about that to yourselves from this point forward.
For the most point I avoid using Last names as my handle, My character still introduces with a last name and I still will have it in the bio, But if I want to change the last name or my character gets married, it is much easier to just change my bio than have to pay 400 zen.
The exception is if I feel like my first name might be common like Rose, but that does not happen to often with my characters since I generally have pretty distinctive names. Or if I have a character that more often goes by her last name than her first like my GWF Pyrose Mazguard of course in this case I also think having the full name like that makes her sound kinda like a Viking.
Each of my characters is unique in some way except my TR, i went with a generic half-orc female name. Some tie into the Salvatore books but arent clone names. I have Alistair Errtusson (descendant of the balor from the Drizzt books), Baern Battlehammer (long lost cousin of Bruenor, his parents and himself being made into mindflayer thralls for years and with his spellscar he feels unworthy to even go to Kelvin's Cairn or Mithril Hall), Bonnego Foamingmug (was an Adbar dwarf at Gauntlgrym, he saw the blessed Bruenor's fall and changed his name in honor of the Dwarf King), and i will make a Jarlaxle, but that's cuz i'm guild leader of Bregan D'aerthe Neverwinter Cell. The guild backstory is that we serve jarlaxle when the true Bregan D'aerthe are prohibited by Kimmuriel and Jarlaxle's agreement.

I don't usually like using a surname in games unless you actually have two separate name cells to enter given and surnames. If it's all in one field, then every time <charname> is inserted into dialogue, the NPCs are going to call you by your full name, which prods uncomfortably at my immersion. This was a cool thing about NWN, that NPCs could refer to you either formally or casually, whichever was more appropriate.
I based the name, appearance, and bio of my GWF on a manga character and I'm not even sorry. My TR is an original I've been reincarnating through various CRPGs since Baldur's Gate. My DC takes her name and background from a lesser-known fairy tale.

There's no "First" and "Last" Names, simply "Name." so any time your character name is called by NPC Dialogue both will be listed.
So, for instance, at Character Creation you would simply type "Drizzt Do'Urden" in order to have a first and last name.
Nooooooooooooooo I AM DRIZZT DO'URDEN!
With Zod as my witness, I will immediately /ignore anyone with that name.

"Do what you can, with what you have, where you are. Then leave the rest to Batman."
Add to that all the people called "Kairon Incubore" or "Kairon Demoneye". Sigh. So many, it's confusing.
What about everyone with the name Daenerys Targaryen?
*chuckle* good one.
That begs the question: how many variations on that name do we think exists on both Neverwinter and DDO servers?

They can't really be blamed for what the game's name generator rolled for them.
Me, I see a Luke Skywalker in just about every zone, and I always wonder if it's the same guy (but can't be bothered to check the @handles).

They can and are, so there! Show a little imagination, oy vey.
(Yes, I know, some people then go and call themselves "Desmond Lovehandles" or similar, but you can't win them all)
