Tomb Spider Companion?!

Ok, I've been playing Neverwinter for 3 weeks with the Tomb Spider and finally got him to rank 25 (the max for him). I suppose it does decent damage, but its not great. What I'm mad about is this... at the max rank I can't unlock his final skin (Ancient Tomb Spider) and it gets no third ability (for controlling). It doesn't seem fair considering it cost $25!!! I mean I sold a Pheora at the AH for 100,000 AD (thats the phoenix) and it goes to rank 30, unlocks the fourth skin, and has three abilities?!? I did the math and its approximately ($2.50 = 100,000 AD) for a Pheora and ($25 = 1,000,000 AD) for the Spider. Just sayin'.

    Sorry to say this, but why did you buy it before knowing how good / bad that companion was?

    Final skin and ability unlocks at companion level 30, same as with all the others. Either hold out for training tomes or don't bother with companions that aren't purple.

    Just think, common pets only get two skins and not even all their equipment slots unlocked.

    I have to agree with this guy. Its hardly some mystery that the rank cap of companions is directly related to their quality.

    White = 15
    Green = 20
    Blue = 25
    Purple = 30

    You only get the 3rd ability and final costume unlock at 30.

    There is nothing hidden here. The quality of the pet is pretty hard to miss before you buy it. If you wanted a level 30 pet, the question is, why did you buy a blue one?

    1st skin unlocks at level 1
    2nd skin unlocks at level 10
    3rd skin unlocks at level 20
    4th would unlock at level 30

    Since the pet only goes up to level 25, you wouldn't get the 4th skin. Similarly, the only pets that have a 3rd attack, that I've seen, are purple ones...

    Wait a minute, does the spider actually cost $25? If so, that's beyond HAMSTER.

    It does, and it is. Of course, I think Starbucks over charges for coffee. I wouldn't pay for it, but folks do all the time.

    I don't really think you can say it cost a real $25 especially if you use your AD to buy Zen in the Astral Diamond Exchange, therefore it's not costing anything unless you're not very smart and used real money to buy a Zen Card.. as for the pet just wait until Training Tomes are released that will kick your pet up to Purple. No idea how much they will cost.

    Since when did spending money become the move of people who are 'not very smart'?
    Sure you can grind away and get free zen but spending money is all relative to your own financial position, I would rather be a person in a position to spend money that ive earned from being smart than the one judging him on his ability to purchase items.
    Your statement says far more about you than it does him..

    As far as i know the pet upgrade tomes will come with module1 FoF. I doubt theyll be cheap but youll have the option with in a few months. Ill also note that most pets just die in group content anyway. Im saving up for a ioun stone so ill at least get the stat boosts and im hoping since they wojt be attackimg they wont die. Atm playing a gf im either using the cleric companion or the pheora depending on how well my healer is keeping me alive. Cant wait to upgrade my cleric companion though.

    truth is I didn't think it thru, just bought it... Now I posted so others could see that and avoid my mistake. I'll have to wait till there are training tomes available at ridiculous prices. My bad.

    I'm pretty happy with my main's Galeb Duhr. Duuuuur.

    But, yeah. I really hope upgrade tomes aren't too awful, because I really want one character to have a purple dog.

    They've made several adjustments to companions. And they keep making more. Maybe by the time Module1 gets here the non-stone/cat companions will be more useful in group content too.

    I've got a maxed out blue rat (hey, it was cheap) and it's pretty nice for solo content -- does about 1000 damage per hit and periodically knocks things back and interrupts them.

    ... I was using it in dungeons, too, to help level it up. I feel kind of guilty, but I don't think anyone noticed. At least I never got complaints about it. Maybe the knockback isn't so horrible as the stupid CW daily so it's not a problem?

    The spider is a controller not a striker. so you don't really get him for DPS, You also aren't getting the spider because hes the best pet. your getting the spider be cause its a SPIDER! and spiders are just innately awesome to have. Also its on fair to compare the SPIDER to a fire-chicken, Pheoras started at 500,000 - 900000ad but gradually as more and more people tried for nightmares and got fire-chickens instead, the price dropped.

    also I really don't think anyone minds you leveling a pet that will instinctually help people flank and break enemy control powers when other people are leveling up the guys that steal agro from the tank so that the cleric gets killed.
