You get booted IE: Kicked Off for being idle if you are off for more than 10 min. after 5 minutes you get warned that you have been marked as idle for being off your computer too long! THAT IS TOO SHORT! I have to run up 3 flights of stairs to use the facilities, If someone else is using it I must wait. If I need to wait more than 2 min I know that I will be booted off my game before I can get back to it! :( NOT EVERYONE has it so good as others, who have their own apartments with a facility in each one. How about Extending the time for another 10 min or so so we don't have to get booted every time nature calls! ( please move this to where someone important and can do something about it can see it! thank you

    It's 10 minutes for a warning, 15 minutes for a boot.

And that is, in my opinion, a long period of time based on my experience in other MMO's. All MMO's have a boot features because simply sitting there AFK does take up server resources. I have seen automatic boot timers as short as five minutes idle = boot.

Just tap a key occasionally and you won't be marked as idle. If you won't be in front of your keyboard for 15 minutes then log out.

If you go to the change character screen instead of logging out or letting yourself get logged out, it doesn't take as long to get back in.

you can't hit a key if you are in the facilities to keep it active. and it takes like 4 to 5 min to log back in and if others are waiting for you tat 4 or 5 min is a lot of un-necessary time. I just think it should;d be expanded to 20 or 25 min. Enough time to do what needs to be done before u get booted!

4-5 minutes just to log back in seems suspicious. Is all that loading screens?

    Not all do, just most.

Personally, I think a character should only be booted from the server if there is a queue to get on. There are reasons for some people to have to run off, and coming back to a character that has been booted out of the game kind of makes you feel like Cryptic just flipped you the bird. This is especially true if you had to run away for something that was actually important.

I fully understand it if there is a queue to get on, but, well, there never is... so...

Edited to add: in the time it took me to read this thread and write this post, I got booted out of game. Maybe not the most important thing in the world to be out of game for, but the point still stands.

in my experience, the idle boot is to short. i can understand booting someone that is afk. but booting someone for the short amount of time that this game does is just too short imo.

15min is plenty of time to be away for a lil bit, if you want to take an hour break log off.

    It's 10 minutes for a warning, 15 minutes for a boot.

You might want to get a techie to check those server logs then. I've had first idle warnings after as little as 5 mins, and I know it was 5 mins for a fact, I timed it because I was 100% that it wasn't the 10 mins that the warning dialogue said it was.

Most of the other games I have played were at 20 mins for warning, 30 mins for boot.

This is certainly without doubt the least tolerant of AFK game I have ever played.

While that works (if you are still at your computer), it would be much easier if the developers simply coded the game so it only kicks players if there is no room for them.

Booting people off of an MMO server for being idle is so 2004.

Guys, this in an MMO. There's always a certain pressure factor involved. If you wish to take your time, play Neverwinter Nights 2 or The Witcher 2 instead.

What does this have to do with anything?

If I am in town, waiting for one of my professions to finish doing what it's doing, and I come to the forums to post about how amateur this game is, I should not be kicked out unless the servers hardware needs the resources for another player. I am not holding anyone up, I am not in anyone's way, I see no reason to boot me, or any other character in a similar situation.

If I am in a group and I am idle for 15 minutes, I fully expect the group to boot me.

I can't help but think people just want to make their team wait 30+ minutes while they talk on the phone. Inconsiderate. :P

If I am in a group, I'd expect to be kicked from that group after 2 or 3 minutes being idle, especially if it was unannounced. There is a huge difference between being kicked from a group for doing nothing and wasting peoples time, and being kicked from the game while you are waiting for something else to happen.

Just to confirm what others are saying. It says you've been idle for 10 minutes after 5 minutes. It boots you after 10 minutes saying it was 15. I've timed it numerous times now. The timer is broken and too short to begin with. It should be idle for no less than 15 and kicked no less than 20minutes. It eventually is one of the things that will drive me from a game when I get sick of being kicked offline sooner than I am expecting. Call me spoiled but the games I grew up with had infinite logins.. Anarchy-Online had people who idled for over a year without logging out.

All idle timers do is force people to make macros to circumvent it and punish those who don't know how.

they do it cause they dont have the money to upgrade the servers, or want to, we all know what kinda laggy experience this game has, and if its going to make this game even more laggy to increase the idle time, then for gods sake DONT!

Anarchy-Online's servers were run by L337s (Space Hamsters) and it was out in 2001 and had no logout timer. It still doesn't. If it can do it on a Funcom Budget there is no excuse for anyone else. :p

I live about as far away as a person can live from the servers, with my internet connection still travelling down hundreds of kilometers of copper wire, yet I have no appreciable lag.

    Go figure...
